HARDCORE-PUNK. Even in 1983 when "Patterns of Force" was released, it seems that CIRCLE ONE knew of their peculiar reputation and that this record would be judged with prejudice. Twenty-seven years later, upon the re-release of this album it seems that not much has changed. Whereas the history of early Hardcore-Punk in Southern California has been endlessly chronicled in books like "We've Got the Neutron Bomb" and films like "American Hardcore," the history and music of CIRCLE ONE has remained obscure. Many people from the era agree that the band has been overshadowed by the mythology surrounding lead singer John Macias. Macias' imposing physical presence, gang involvement, militant Christian beliefs, and mental illness followed him to his early death and continue to shape opinions about CIRCLE ONE, a band that is very much more than one man. GARAGE. The DOLLY ROCKER MOVEMENT formed in late 2002 in the inner surrounds of Sydney, Australia. They are influenced by late '60s Garage, Psychedelia. The charismatic band leader writes beautiful and well-crafted songs and beneath the psychedelic and colourful surface they're simply a great Pop band with a destinctive sound of their own. EXPENDABLE YOUTH / CUT THE REINS - Split 7'' 3.70 EUR
HARDCORE. Fuckin' epic. EXPENDABLE YOUTH's 6 minute thrashy melodic Crust dominates faces. The song is full of palm muted harmoninzing metallic guitar riffs, screeching vox, and some pounding drums that make up EXPENDABLE YOUTH's sick style. Also there is a pretty as shit clean part that will make you want to slow dance until the song blasts you in the face again. Theres a lot of bands doing this style right now, but few do it nearly as good, and out of that few EXPENDABLE YOUTH is one of the best. And on the other side of the split is a band from Ireland called CUT THE REINS. "Built from the inside" is a dark melodic song with an upbeat tempo mixed with passionate yelled vox that are refreshing. Isolation is very FROM ASHES RISE sounding with some very cool RAMBO like gang vox. Compareable to a more upbeat FROM ASHES RISE with REQUIEM sounding vox. (2010/DIY)

GRANT HART - Intolerance LP 14.90 EUR
INDIE-ROCK. "Intolerance" is GRANT HART's first solo effort after HÜSKER DÜ, and he followed his 60's inspiration in writing this collection of songs. It sounds kind of stange to to think that only a few years before Bob Mould, HÜSKER DÜ's leader somehow, were Huskers' only writer. In fact it didn't take much longer before Mould's rough artistic vision collided with Hart's melodic and poppy tunes. But in 1989 those fights were past and Hart's LP is well worth the listen. Sure, it is not "Warehouse" (HÜSKER DÜ's Power -Pop masterpiece), neither "Zen arcade" (their Punk masterpiece), but all of these songs, with Hart mainly concentrated -oddily- on keyboard and organ, sound still fresh and weird, like some heritage from another era, not from 1989, but neither from 1967, probably only from some place in Hart's mind where he could feel finally at ease, singing his killer refrains and his naive verse-chorus-and-nothing-else stuff. The band’s full-length debut, "And girls club", wound up on countless best-of-2009 lists and landed them a record deal (outside North America) with Rough Trade. Now, the Boys kick off 2010 with their follow-up, "Be brave", and it’s guaranteed to please any and all who appreciate an infectious mix of ramshackle Garage-Rock, polished Village Green-era KINKS melodies, and vocals that suggest a young Bob Dylan had he spent more of his formative years in juvie halls than coffeehouses. And who can’t dig that? "Be brave", recorded at The Distillery in Costa Mesa by Mike McHugh, is the debut of the new, modified STRANGE BOYS lineup. UNKIND - Yhteiskunnan pikkuvikoja LP+CD 13.50 EUR
HARDCORE-PUNK. An amazing and totally bleak and definitely their best record so far from this Finnish band. Combining a more muted and moody take on DISFEAR-style rocked out guitar riffs, savagely shouted vocals ala VICTIMS, and then the dark and epic scope of NEUROSIS (and their slower, low end lumbering), TRAGEDY (mood carrying guitar riffs and solos), ARTIMUS PYLE (bursting from all of that into wicked Thrash) and their ilk. The recording is crazy serious and megalithic, allowing the weight of the riffs to be literally oppressive and powerful then just clearing enough space for the band to blast fast thrashier parts. Top notch musicianship, the mood of the whole affair somber as it can get, and while this metallic influenced Crust style is seems at times almost completely currently dismissed stateside / locally, if you like any of the five bands I just mentioned, buy this immediately! INDIE-ROCK. "Intolerance" is GRANT HART's first solo effort after HÜSKER DÜ, and he followed his 60's inspiration in writing this collection of songs. It sounds kind of stange to to think that only a few years before Bob Mould, HÜSKER DÜ's leader somehow, were Huskers' only writer. In fact it didn't take much longer before Mould's rough artistic vision collided with Hart's melodic and poppy tunes. But in 1989 those fights were past and Hart's LP is well worth the listen. Sure, it is not "Warehouse" (HÜSKER DÜ's Power -Pop masterpiece), neither "Zen arcade" (their Punk masterpiece), but all of these songs, with Hart mainly concentrated -oddily- on keyboard and organ, sound still fresh and weird, like some heritage from another era, not from 1989, but neither from 1967, probably only from some place in Hart's mind where he could feel finally at ease, singing his killer refrains and his naive verse-chorus-and-nothing-else stuff. The recording is crazy serious and megalithic, allowing the weight of the riffs to be literally oppressive and powerful then just clearing enough space for the band to blast fast thrashier parts. Top notch musicianship, the mood of the whole affair somber as it can get, and while this metallic influenced Crust style is seems at times almost completely currently dismissed stateside / locally, if you like any of the five bands I just mentioned, buy this immediately!
