GRAF ORLOCK destination tomorrow 10“ (vendetta - Destination Time
Tomorrow is the second installment of Graf Orlock’s time bending cinemagrind
trifecta, based on an array of cloudily interconnected storylines.
Containing all of the latent brutality and anger present in Gorlock’s 2006
release, Destination Time Yesterday, this 8 song cdep and 10” inch
kicks up the confrontation meter, registering near inflammatory in the
realm of requisite nihilism and undeserved sarcasm. Destination Time
Tomorrow is being released in support of a Spring 2007 European tour and
continues the so called “racket” of intensity and life affirming violence
synonymous with Graf Orlock. Pink or red vinyl) 10.00
WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH / MOLOTOV SOLUTION split 10” shark men
records 10,50
molotov solution come from Las Vegas / USA and share it with Berlin
based WAR FROM A HARLOT'S MOUTH. Both bands deliver 4 blasting and
disturbing songs that mix up furious Metal, ear deafening Grind, heavy Mosh
and some slower Jazzparts, too. Growling vocals, buzzy guitars and
driving beats on the MS side, a little wilder and and even weirder sound with
some modern Youth Crew and metallic Hardcore, as well as more emotional
tones thrown in on the WFAHM side. Sounds interesting? Damn sure is!
Clever and interesting stuff. The record comes in a gatefold cover and is
limited to 528 handnumbered copies
WOELV “gris” 10” elvrum and sun 12,00
"Everything was recorded very late into the night as I was working on a
large drawing project. I was preoccupied with what the radio announced
every day. "Gris" dropped in just like an accident, because I felt the
urgent need to make something and finish it... because some of our
efforts come from frustration."
WOELV – the musical countenance of Geneviève Castrée – is, in her own
words, an addition to and completion of a lot more exhausting comic
work. Accompanied by guitar, drums and harmonium, she plays her own
compositions, namely those tender dreamy songs recorded on her 2004
Pamplemoussi album, as well as this year's single Gris. She sings in Québéçois
French with a very strange accent, which sounds unusual even to the
natives of her hometown Québec. The reason behind this may be that WOELV
understands her maiden voice as an instrument that shifts from the
semantics of language and willingly succumbs to the intensive feeling of the
music and lyrics. She says that these songs ''should speak of peace and
justice. I believe that the only positive thing about conflict – any
conflict – is its end… ''

Dark, powerful and ultimately up-lifting
D+ “no mystery” LP + CD elevrum & sun 18,00
D+ is an indie rock band based in Anacortes, Washington. Formed in 1997
by singer/guitarist Bret Lunsford and singers/multi-instrumentalists
Karl Blau and Phil Elvrum, the band is perhaps best known for Lunsford's
droll vocals and witty wordplay, and a minimalist, charmingly
ramshackle sound
DOOMRIDERS black thunder LP (magic bullet - Boston's Doomriders are
sonically antisocial and undeniably unforgettable as they come. They are
comprised of a stellar lineup featuring Nate Newton (Converge, OMG),
along with longtime friends Jebb Riley (There Were Wires, Disappearer),
Chris Pupecki (Cast Iron Hike), and Chris Bevalaqua (Hallraker). The
demon child of their collective unhealthy obsession with classic rock,
hardcore and skateboarding, Doomriders is a rare beast in today's music
world. Their soulful, no frills approach conjures the spirits of Thin
Lizzy, Entombed, and damn near every evil in between, making their approach
one hell of a rebellious and exciting musical ride. GOLD WAX – first

HIGH ON CRIME until no flags fly Lp hungry ghosts records 9,00
HOC brings together Dave from Seven Days of Samsara/Kung Fu Rick on
guitar, John from Kung Fu Rick on Drums, John from Artimus Pyle on guitar,
and Robert from Artimus Pyle on bass. The first time I saw this band I
was blown away and they were only a two piece at the time. John and
Robert moved to Milwaukee this last fall and joined forces to create one
of the best hardcore bands going. They just made a trek down to
Nashville to record this album with John from Asschapel, so be prepared!
HOLY ROLLERS same (10song) LP (dischord - THE HOLY ROLLERS are a
three-piece from Washington D.C. They formed in 1988, with the line-up of
Marc Lambiotte on guitar and vocals, Joe Aronstamn on bass and vocals
(both Marc and Joe used to be in Grand Mal and Law of Fives), and Maria
Jones on drums and vocals. The music is both heavy and melodic (not unlike
Fugazi) minus some of the overt political bite of Msrs. Mackaye and
Piciotto. Most songs start with a melodic groove, helped by some stellar
percussion and vocal harmonies. They even do a great cover of a JC
Superstar tune.) 11.00
HOLY ROLLERS as is LP (dischord – their first amazing album) 11.00
LUNGFISH Indivisible LP (dischord – 11 tracks, 36 minutes. Fifth full
length. Dirge-like backroads ballads of plaintive honesty rather than
snippets of angst. Lo-fi and country influenced rock. Not typical DC-rock)

LUNGFISH feral hymns LP(dischord - Lungfish reach new levels of
anthemic prowess. A welcomed return to their untethered free and more chaotic
sound. Tim Green (Fucking Champs, N.O.U.) produced. Awesome cover art.)

MAJORITY RULE/ PAGE99 split LP (magic bullet - Northern Virginia's Pg.
99 and Washington DC's Majority Rule combine efforts and put forth nine
brand new songs. This is a complex and rather explosive recording done
under the simple premise of friends working together to create
something that we can call our own.) 11.50
MASERATI - Inventions for the new season DLP (golden antenna - Formed
at the edge of the new millennium, Maserati is as sleek, sexy and
sophisticated as the legendary Italian sports car it takes its name from. It
is fitting, then, that the band has dragged the glory years of
psychedelic arena rock kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, with the
pomposity (and vocals) carefully removed. In its place are white hot
flashes of light pulsing to an unstoppable rhythm that makes us want to
punch air and drive really fast in a car with wings instead of doors.)

MOUNT EERIE “no flashlights” LP + CD elevrum and sun 18,00
the ultra lo-fi aesthetic predictably remains—the first “No Flashlight”
pairs Jandekian guitar shards and a hand-played trash-can drum set, the
drunk tuba of “The Universe Is Shown” leads a clattering percussion
heavy two-minute romp, and “I Hold Nothing” reveals a flowery guitar
melting with carefully plotted piano and double-tracked vocals. Each song is
a ramshackle affair—obviously composed with complete care and then
casually blurred upon its actual performance. This bleary-eyed aesthetic is
an old chestnut of Elvrum’s and he knows how to work it expertly,
squeezing every last ounce of naïve energy from each instrument and
recording take.
But as much as I’d like to make this about the music, Elvrum
continually pushes the lyrical content onto himself or onto Mt. Eerie (the band,
the Mt., the whatever he wants it to be). And because Elvrum’s
philosophy is a rather muddled one (even with a surfeit explanation bordering
on the absurd), it tends to take away from the album at key moments.
Musical highlights like the beautifully hummed “How?” are weighed down by
Elvrum’s insistence on calling the visible world “the romance” or the
unfortunate lyric “Because the pupil of my eye is a hole / There’s no
Inside and there’s no Out / The world is in me and I am in the world”
from the shimmering “No Inside, No Out.”
MOUNT EERIE “11 old songs” LP + CD elevrum and sun 18,00
There’s nothing like a bit of Mount Eerie to get you out of your
musical cynicism every once in a while, Phil Elverum (previously known as The
Microphones) has a distinct ability to spit in the face of musical fad
and fashion and that’s exactly what he does here. Taking the backbone
of his tracks from a Casio keyboard, Elverum fashions his mournful yet
surprisingly uplifting songs around this, which gives the strange
illusion of lo-fi sleazy chic. The songs are of course classic Elverum, and
if you enjoy his previous work there’s no way you won’t find some solace
here. He’s an indie king, but he’s unprepared to take his crown from
his champions Pitchfork, he’s unprepared to lose himself in the world of
major labels and major tours… and all power to the feller. This gives
his music an edge of reality, a grounding and an honesty rarely found –
and this is why we love him. As with most of his recent releases this
comes on both white vinyl and cd… you can’t get one without getting the
other, which is a pretty nice touch. Eleven songs, cd and lp – now who
can say fairer than that.
TAPES
CIRCUS LUPUS super genius TAPE (dischord - In 1991 they released their
first LP, "Super Genius", Circus Lupus are four mad, mixed-sex
musicians from Washington DC, home of all things hard and heavy, but there's
not a whiff of the cliches of hardcore here." Melody Maker) 6.00
CIRCUS LUPUS Solid Brass Tape (dischord - The quartet's second and
final album, Brass shows the band fully in thrall of the wound-up
aggro/artpunk demons that made them create such thrilling music. 'Post-hardcore'
was the term most often thrown around at them in print -- while an
open-ended description, it does accurately imply the combination of sheer
energy at play along with a desire to avoid the obvious strictures most
hardcore and punk had long fallen into. Casebolt and Lorinczi make for
a fine rhythm section, throwing in unexpected but sharp, brusque twists
and turns throughout. They keep the beat going, but it's the addition
of those quick changes that help make Circus Lupus really fun (inasmuch
as said quartet were ever fun -- maybe 'gripping' is the better word).

(formerly Susie Josephson) is one of the first great photographers to grow
out of and document the early punk scene in Washington DC in the early
80s. Her iconic photographs from the Washington DC punk scene in
1980-'81 are instantly recognizable by people familiar with Dischord Records
-- the Teen Idles 7" , The SOA 7", the first Minor Threat 7" and the
Flex Your Head LP all use her photos as central themes. Unlike many
documentary photographers Susie's perspective is personal. She doesn't view
the scene from the outside but as a participant and the result is a
