POST-HARDCORE. GULL is the one man band solo project of Nathaniel Rappole from ULTRA DOLPHINS and SNACK TRUCK. Yes, one man band, as in he plays guitar with his left hand, drums with his right, and sings through a skull mask. His unique style of mixing proggy Space Rock and Dischord-ish Punk with Eastern vocal chants create a driving environment that sounds like the results of YES, FUGAZI, RUSH and the JESUS LIZARD locked up in a planetarium together. This 7" renders 2 songs recorded live and all at once, as well as a couple almost fully live space jams (13 minutes total). As if their main band SEDATIVES didn't keep them busy enough, drummer Dave and guitar player Emmanuel started off this new group, with their friends Hayden and Chuck from THE GREY, METZ and MOUNTANAKA, where they can live out another facet of their inexhaustible creativity. Dave changes to the guitar here and Emmanuel shouts his heart out on this mix of melodic PEGBOY Chicago-Punk, slightly dissonant RITES OF SPRING style Washington D.C. Hardcore, early SST-era HÜSKER DÜ and what they call the ''Gainesville Sound'' that was kicked off by bands like HOT WATER MUSIC. The latter is surely due to the fact that Emmanuel sounds like a hungover Chuck Ragan on these 7 songs that are filled with dark melodies shining through a wall of broken chords and choruses that carry the heartfelt and passionate lyrics in songs like ''Forget it all'', ''So much pressure'', ''End it'' or ''These days''. And to leave no doubt who stood as godfather to this chosen sound, they close this one-sided 12inch with HÜSKER DÜ's ''Girl who lives on heaven hill''. HARDCORE-PUNK. Fourth full length from these guys. It sports 15 songs? some brand NEW, some re-recorded classics, some previously released on other, inferior formats such as cassette tapes and the obsolete compact disc. It is exclusively available on swirly mixed colored vinyl? The 12" kind that will not fit into the disk drive on your computer. For those of you unfamiliar, LOVE SONGS is a 4-piece from the Bay Area and features: Craigums on guitar/vox. You might know him from YOUR MOTHER, ALL YOU CAN EAT, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?, COLBOM, THIS IS MY FIST, or as the 2008 WORLD AIR GUITAR CHAMPION; Jackson on the other guitar/vox. You might know him from THIS IS MY FIST, MASTER VOLUME, or his crotch which is featured on the cover of this record; Bradley on drums. He was also in YOUR MOTHER and rarely lets a measure go by without throwing in a drumfill. While reared on death metal and Weird Al, exclusively, Bradley is probably best known for being vegan and fat; Seth Strong on bass/some vox. LOWBROW - Broken speech 7'' 3.90 EUR

HARDCORE. Lowbrow's newest 7" shows the progression of an extremely hard-working band in a short amount of time. Hot on the heels of their Demo CD-R, their first proper release "Broken speech", is a hell of a showing for this young band from Charlotte, NC. Taking the best elements of fast Hardcore bands like INFEST and RORSCHACH, and combining it with the intensity of modern Hardcore a la CONVERGE, LOWBROW churns out of some of the most intense fast Hardcore heard in a while. Straddling the lines between Powerviolence, Thrash, and Hardcore, LOWBROW's not afraid to wear some of their influences on their sleeves, and pick and choose the best element's of Hardcore's past in order to create some of the best modern Hardcore around. This Self Aware Records release, which includes beautifully screen-printed covers also comes with a digital download card that includes a bonus track showcasing Lowbrow's darker, more down-tempo side. METH MOUNTAIN - Monotony 7'' 3.90 EUR

HARDCORE. While the title of Charlotte, NC's Meth Mountain's newest 7" may be "Monotony", the music is anything but. Shedding some of the melody heard on their "Drugs rule" cassette, and "Same" CDEP, METH MOUNTAIN stop getting DAG NASTY, and channel their inner BLACK FLAG, creating some of their most deranged, sonically challenging tracks to date. The 2 tracks on the A-Side, "The regulators" and "Vessels" capture the band's Punk intensity, while the B-Side hosts their "Monotony" dirge for which the record is named. The release was truly a communal effort, as it was released by hometown labels Lunchbox Records, Made In Kansas, and "silent partner" Self Aware Records. SLUDGE/DOOM. This split contains 4 songs from Louisiana's Doom/Sludge outfit THOU, including their MINOR THREAT cover "Screamin' at a wall." If you haven't heard their cover of this song, it rules. More crushing tuneage from the very prolific band. The other side of the record brings us California's MOHORAM ATTA, A great mix between fast, thrashy pissed off Hardcore and sludging riffage. Twelve new sharp fusillades that make this silly Hardcore-Punk heart inside of your beaten body jump with joy and pounding pleasure. When it comes to timeless and catchy early 80s US Hardcore sound in these fast and modern times of ours, the REGULATIONS take the biggest part of the cake. Once more they managed to step back to the classic Hardcore of the ADOLESCENTS, the CIRCLE JERKS or BLACK FLACK and stir it up with ingenuity, inspiration and passion in meldodic mid-tempo songs like ''Baghdad beach party'', ''Creature in a cage'' or ''In the shadow of a mall''. WISDOM IN CHAINS - Everything you know LP 11.50 EUR

HARDCORE. Founded in early 2003, as a musical collaboration between musicians from both America and Europe, WISDOM IN CHAINS have put their mark on the American & European Hardcore, Punk and Oi! scene. Maarten, a guitar player for the band DAREDEVIL (Holland) contacted Mad Joe & Richie, who at the time were both in KRUTCH with the idea to start an old- school band, with heavy Punk and Oi! influences. The three of them met while KRUTCH was on tour in Europe and not much later Maarten flew to the USA to record their self entitled debut, which was released on Gangstyle Records. Originally the band only played one show, due to the distance between its members, and eventually Maarten suggested that Richie & Mad Joe would seek new local members to keep the band going. They recruited local guitar hero Tony Meltdown who basically shreds on the guitar. After that Shannon Sparky was brought in on drums, who also played with Richie and Mad Joe in Out To Win. The search went on to find a bass player who could jam with these cats. The very obvious and only guy for the job was local drunk and trouble maker Big Show Greg. The new line-up was finally complete and it was time to hit the road and take their killer Street-Hardcore/Punk to the masses. WISDOM INC CHAINS have outdone themselves with this new record and "Everything You Know" is an album full of surprises. Musically divers, great lyrics, a solid production and even a guest feature by Lou from SICK OF IT ALL. Simply said: an absolute classic. (2009/REALITY)
