Sick Times
Chinese street-punk meets German hardcore on this 10” split. Sick Times step up to the plate with seven cuts of classic ‘80s style hardcore, each under a minute-and-a-half. Tracks like “Trash Diet” talk about our addiction to processed food and the industrial meat industry, while “Fuck the Kids” addresses decreased attendance at shows and lack of support for the scene. Sick Times also throw in two classic covers, “World Up My Ass” by the Circle Jerks and “I Love Hardcore Boys” by Limp Wrist.
GumBleed
Gum Bleed holds up their side with two longer offerings. The three-and-a-half-minute “Commando” throws down heavy hardcore with backing vocals, bridges and solos, while the five-minute “Kiss Me I’m Punk” offers a lighter, more punky stab at a love song. Capturing the best from two scenes, East and West, this record will make you want to crack open a beer, crank up the volume, and let the sick times roll!

Sick Times:
(1997 – present)
Roving punk party Sick Times kicked off in Dresden, Germany in 1997 when friends Vullmie (lead singer) and Kief (original drummer), whose punk roots included stints with well-known acts like SKRÄCK and Spit On You, formed a band dedicated to fast ‘80s style hardcore. After a series of lineup changes, including the departure of Kief, Vullmie recruited friends Zippi (former drummer for Command and Control) and Matti (the Shoemakers and Volt Ghosts) to complete the power trio.
Sick Times released a split-vinyl LP in 2008 with East German comrades Screwed Up, and a self-titled vinyl full-length in 2010 on their own Zgonani Records. Meanwhile, they’ve continued to be active in the German, Italian and Eastern European scenes, taking their beer-fueled bacchanal to every shitty little town with a stage and a tap.
More recently, they set their sights on the east, releasing a split with Chinese street-punks Gum Bleed on Genjing Records in preparation for a fall 2012 tour of China – their first, but hopefully not their last.
GumBleed:
(2006 – present)
One of the youngest and most striking hardcore punk bands to emerge from the P.R.C., Gumbleed combine politically aware lyrics with fast catchy street punk for a classic and compelling sound. Formed in 2006, the quartet have made a name for themselves with powerful live shows and an international perspective that’s driven them to tour relentlessly abroad as well as in China. Through their annual tours of Europe, Gumbleed have made a number of international connections and become instrumental in bringing foreign bands to China. In this way, Gumbleed have also played a key role in supporting China’s young scene, proving that they embody not only the sound but also the spirit of the global punk community.
