AMBITIONS exile 7" (bridge nine - Ambitions is a band that's hard to define, with influences ranging from Quicksand and Fugazi to Bad Religion and Face to Face, you hear strong roots in hardcore, but a unique sound that is all their own. "Exile" is a 4-song 7" limited to 1000 copies. This features 3 songs from their upcoming Bridge Nine epic debut full-length, "Stranger," and one song, "Distant," which is only available on the 7".) 5.00
BLACKBIRDS/ BRAINDEAD split 7“ (Philly's Braindead start this 7" off with four tracks of fast, modern, yet old-school flavored hardcore in the vein of Count Me Out and Outbreak while Blackbirds, from Michigan, play with a more manic style, kind of like Give Up The Ghost.) 5.00
BORN BAD same 7“ (fashionable idiots - Debut ep from Winnipeg's BORN BAD. Awesome violent hardcore for fans of Negative Approach, The State and mean and ugly hardcore like that.5 6 songs that'll leave you wanting more. Yet another killer from Fashionable Idiots.) 4.50
BRUTAL KNIGHTS life ain´t cool 7" (riff raff - Brand New on RIFF RAFF RECORDS! This is 4 songs of some BRUTAL KNIGHTS best work to date, great recordings and songs. A couple fast ones and couple tuneful slow ones for good measure. One side is one session, and the other side has a couple out-takes from the FEAST OF SHAME l.p. (Don't know why they were out-takes, maybe just for this!) Great production all around. For fans of Carbonas, Circle Jerks, and the DWARVES. YEAH!) 4.50
BULLETS IN trashed and burned 7“ (adagio830/ waking - Finally available. I´m so glad that we finally got this out of the pressing plant. Its BULLETS INs final recordings and they are killer. It was worth waiting. Four tunes straight in your face. Maybe you can compare them to other bay area bands like Torches to Rome or Sawhorse. At least four songs that let raise your fist and let you start fighting! This is a split release w/ waking records) 4.00
LEARN life and... 7" (malfunction - Started in 2003, Learn burst onto the vibrant Rhode Island scene with a demo impressing everyone within earshot. The band was quickly snatched up for a debut 7" on Bottled Up Records, which sold quickly for such a new group (1,000 pressed to date). After a successful USA tour with friends in Have Heart, "Life And..." was written. In these 7 new songs Learn shows the maturity of an established band, blending elements of historic Cleveland hardcore (like the almighty Integrity) with the modern flavor played by their peers such as Modern Life Is War. Now available on vinyl.) 5.00
MISSION OF BURMA/ SPORE split 7" (Taang - Two great tunes - one from 1982 from Mission of Burma and one from 1994 from Spore) 5.00
TOTAL ABUSE sex pig 7" (deranged - The first vinyl offering by ex-Snobs will not disappoint. Their demo made some waves and these new tracks step it up a notch; just as raw and fast but way more controlled. Basic primal HC with loads of speed and hooks that's been compared to a mix of DRI and early Boston HC like Deep Wound.) 5.00
10“
THANK GOD & TIGERSHARK split 10" (perpetual motion machine – This is the tour cover limited to 100 something. Split 10" - Black vinyl with TOUR COVER - This new split 10" features Richmond, Virginia's TIGERSHARK (ex-The Assistant, The Setup) and South Carolina maniacs THANK GOD (ex-Antischism, Guyana Punchline), with three new songs from each band. Put together for Thank God's July tour, this special tour version comes packaged in a full color, foldover cover with artwork by Ryan Mclennan. Released in collaboration with Molsook Records and Tick Tock Records.) 10.50
LP
ACID KING bosse woods LP (kreation - Acid King's Busse Woods makes a definitive statement of heaviness that more than makes up for their small number of releases. Interesting then, how this enormously dark and heavy CD is characterized by its laid back feel. There is no angst and bombast here, just super large fuzz riffs unfurled with taste and atmosphere... Just put on Busse (pronounced buss-ee) Woods and find out what she can do.) 15.50
THE APPLESEED CAST Mare Vitalis DLP (deeep elm/ grave face - Finally available on a nice double LP Ten songs of emo/post hardcore following up their last Deep Elm release, the Appleseed Cast/Planes Mistaken For Stars/Race Car Riot split CD. Their second full length album, this will appeal to any fan of Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, or Mineral.) 17.50
Architecture In Helsinki - Place like this LP (polyvinyl - Architecture in Helsinki is a six piece outfit of musical chameleons, formed in Melbourne, Australia, and now scattered across the globe. The band has developed a reputation for sensational live shows and a large, loyal fanbase. With two very successful albums already under their belt (2004's Fingers Crossed and 2005's In Case We Die), Architecture in Helsinki now hit the ground running with their third album, Places Like This. Upon first listen, it's no wonder that blogs and music sites are already chattering away insistently about the record. Places Like This is ten songs of instantly lovable pop brilliance, fizzing with electrical currents, channeling calypso rhythms and tropicalia flavors with lashings of percussion a-go-go. The album packs a kaleidoscopic punch that isn't far from astounding. Pop effervescence hasn't sounded this fresh in ages.) 15.00
THE CATALYST Marianas Trench 12" (perpetual motion machine - Richmond, Virginia's THE CATALYST follow up last year's split with Mass Movement of the Moth with four new blasts of grunge/stoner inspired mayhem on this one-sided, silkscreened 12". Limited to 350 copies, this version comes pressed on blue vinyl with a silkscreened B side and full color jackets. Recommended for fans of KARP, NIRVANA, MELVINS, PG.99, etc.) 11.00
CHUCK RAGAN Feast Or Famine LP (no idea - While Ragan's live debut "Los Feliz" gave the Hot Water Music frontman's fans a glimpse into many of these songs, the versions on "Feast Or Famine" are more polished without losing any of the inherent urgency or passion. Contributors to the record include Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio), Jolie Holland, Tim Barry (Avail), Nathan Maxwell (Flogging Molly), James Fearnley (The Pogues) and more. Now available on vinyl.) 11.50
COLD WORLD no omega LP (1917 records - Serving as a collection of all Cold World releases to date, "No Omega" contains their self-titled seven-inch, their "Ice Grillz" seven-inch on Lockin' Out, and tracks from a split with Wilkes-Barre brethren War Hungry. This CD comes packaged with a bonus DVD containing footage from their Posi Numbers performance in 2005 as well as rare footage taken from various tours in the US and Europe. Now available on vinyl with a gatefold cover.) 12.50
DIE YOUNG (TX) the message LP (surprise attack - Fast, aggressive hardcore in the vein of Terror, Hatebreed and Madball. Their songs are short and to the point as well as socially and politically minded. Die Young (TX) is angry for a reason and aren't afraid to tell you about it in quick, brutal songs that leave you winded and wanting more. Contains tracks from both of their previous singles as well as four songs exclusive to this release. Now available on vinyl.) 13.00
EA80 Reise LP (slow boy – Tne new EA80 LP – finally. It got a little bit more positive if you ask me – but not in a bad way. Good stuff like always.) 11.50
EARTH CRISIS firststorm/ all out war LP (victory – back in stock. Limited pressing of the classic earth crisis 7" & all out war 12" on ONE LP - Environmentalism, animal liberation and strict drug and alchohol abstinence, combined with an equally unrelenting sound has made them unignorable.
get it while you can= 12.00
JANA HUNTER - "Carrion"- one sided 12" (woodist - Half of the six songs on Jana Hunter’s Carrion are unreleased hangers-on from the writing sessions that produced her most recent full-length, There’s No Home, while the other half are alternate renditions of works that appeared on that release. But this is no mere grab bag of remnants; it’s a real tight product, all around.
“Paint A Babe” is a throw-back to Hunter’s earlier material, written and recorded simultaneously on a borrowed four-track recorder. A real sad, longing song. “A Goblin, A Goblin” took a little more time to create: this strong, sturdy number, replete with violins and creepy harmony, tells the tale of an indignant outcast. “You Will Take It and Like It,” turns one central, pretty and proud guitar part over and over and over, with others mirroring it, leeching from it, grabbing on like little parasitic danglers. The original version of “There’s No Home” is here, the track that spawned an entire record title, followed by “Sleep” (titled, as it was originally, “Ooh Uuh”), from the recording that ended up on a lullaby compilation. Concluding Carrion is an acoustic re-presentation of the country-minded “Oracle,” stripped down to one guitar, one melody, and one harmony, as it was originally conceived in its creation as homage. CD on Gnomonsong – ltd to 500) 12.00
MODERN LIFE IS WAR midnight in america LP (reflections - In 2005 Modern Life Is War signed with Deathwish Inc. and spent the next few months writing and recording songs for what would become their second album, "Witness," which was released in June 2005. Deathwish reissued "My Love. My Way." in the fall of 2006, and the band hit the road with Strike Anywhere and Bane followed by a successful winter tour with Converge. On August 21st, Modern Life Is War will release their highly anticipated third album, "Midnight In America.") 12.00
MINUS THE BEAR Planet Of Ice DLP (suburban home - Picking up where they left off from "Menos El Oso," Minus The Bear continue to push the boundaries of their own technical, unique brand of indie rock, adding more electronics to their fine-tuned formula.) 19.00
PELICAN city of echoes LP (hydra head - Pelican's third full-length sees the band shortening the tracks and adding a bit of a pop/rock feel, shattering all expectations and continuing to explore what can be accomplished by playing purely instrumental heavy rock. Tip-on gatefold with high gloss spot-varnish finish with heavy-stock inner sleeve. We got silver, clear light blue and clear black splatter) 18.50
RACCOO-OO-OON - Mythos Folkways Vol. 3 "Divination Night" LP (woodist - Divination Night is Raccoo-oo-oon?s third volume in their Mythos Folkways improvisational series. Drifting out of a hazy backdrop of piano, woodwinds and percussion, movements are formed around bluesy vocal sludge, building walls of riff heavy wailing, percussion fury, and spaced out synth destruction. A loose presence focused into a single collective vision. Multi color silk-screened artwork by Shawn Reed. Limited) 13.50
RED HANDED Wounds Remain LP (rivalry - Red Handed's debut full-length is 14 tracks full of raging, pissed off hardcore punk from the San Francisco Bay Area. Following in the footsteps of The Nerve Agents and Outbreak, this band combines a similar formula of raw hardcore riffs, punk rock rhythm, and angry vocals. It's no secret that these guys love Black Flag, early '80s hardcore, and all things Dischord, and this LP is the evidence.) 12.50
SOUL CONTROL Involution LP (rivalry - Drawing influences from bands such as Burn, Bane, Quicksand, 108 and Into Another, Soul Control breathes fire back into a long-dormant style of hardcore. Lyrically, the album concentrates on self-evaluation, introspection and taking a deeper look at what composes the self. Mid-tempo and passionate, "Involution" has a definite groove driven by melodic, yet strident, guitar, thick, heavy bass lines and drums that are as compelling as they are driving.) 12.50
SIGUR ROS in a frozen sea 7xLP + Book (artist in residence - In A Frozen Sea follows Sigur Ros through their native Iceland, during the Takk world tour. Encased in a hard cover album, this deluxe version contains a re-pressing of three classic Sigur Ros LPs: Agaetis Byrjun, ( ) and Takk. As a special bonus, Smaskifa, which has never before been released in a 12" format, is included in the set (seven total pieces of vinyl). These LPs slip into seven individually customized vinyl sleeves which are designed with original photography from the 2006 Takk tour. A classic 32-page publication of never-before-seen photographs, observations and quotes is included in this package and slips into a customized jacket inside the back cover.) 155.00
SLEEP holy mountain LP (kreation records - Finally repressed - This was my most wanted Earache LP and now its available again. Massive Heavy riffs ala Sabbath and St. Vitus. You must get this! Probably one of the most influental bands in the stoner rock genre. The heaviness exhibited on this album is the musical equivalent of 1000 elephants stampeding through your living room. A definite must buy!) 16.50
SWEET COBRA praise LP (seventh rule – back in stock. Chicago's Sweet Cobra draws from the influences of His Hero Is Gone, Black Flag and Unsane to the more rock oriented Helmet and newer heavy staples High on Fire. One can hear those influences and variations of others, merging classic rock riffs and rhythms with hardcore breakdowns and heated angry vocals. Songs written like verses of an epic war story or something biblical, create the appropriate setting for the band's first record PRAISE. Sweet Cobra contains current members of Suicide Note, The Hope Conspiracy, Suicide File, The Killing Tree and Challenger... so that coupled with the listed influences should give you an inkling of this album's intensity!) 13.00
TURBOSTAAT vormann leiss LP (warner - 11 new songs on 180gramm vinyl w/ a huge booklet. The continue in the tradition of of german punkbands ala Dackelblut etc with a little bit more Pop. Its a great Major debut) 12.50
VALKYRIE same LP (kreation records - I first heard of this Harrisonburg, VA outfit with their Sunlight Shines EP, a three-song collection of some of the finest Pentagram by way of Hawkwind doom out there. Unlike a good number of their doom contemporaries, Valkyrie guitarists Pete and Jake Adams aren’t afraid to lay down some serious soloing. It seems like every song is aching to explode with some harmonized leads or some back and forth dueling. Valkyrie is doom with oomph, providing the dour vibe but never getting bogged down in plodding riffs. This is an impressive debut. I could see these guys on a tour with the likes of The Hidden Hand and Earthride and holding their own. Great stuff (especially the solos).) 15.00
VIOLENT MINDS we are nothing LP (deranged - Hot on the heels of the release of "Eyes Of Death," "We Are Nothing" is another representation of this band's raw, dirty street punk-influenced hardcore played with the same speed and ferocity as old bands like Lifes Blood or even the straightforward hardcore thrash of Poison Idea. Now available on vinyl.) 12.50
CD
COALESCE There Is Nothing New Under The Sun CD (hydra head - Originally released in 1999, "There Is Nothing New Under The Sun" featured noise-core masters Coalesce covering their favorite Led Zeppelin tracks. 2007 sees the re-release of this tribute, but also included are Coalesce covering tracks from The Get Up Kids, Boy Sets Fire, Undertow and Black Sabbath, plus one original Coalesce track.) 15.00
DEADLINE 8/2/82 CD (peterbilt/ dischord - This CD features re-mastered versions of the songs originally released on the (long out of print) Peterbilt 12". Deadline were one of the signature bands of the early DC Hardcore scene. The four piece, composed of Brendan Canty (drums), Christian Caron (guitar), Terry Scanlon (bass) and Ray Hare (vocals), formed in the summer of 1981. They quickly recorded a demo at Inner Ear Studios that September and from those sessions three tracks were culled for use on the Dischord "FLEX YOUR HEAD" sampler. After playing a number of memorable shows through the following year, including opening for Flipper at the old 9:30 club, the band recorded one more session at Inner Ear in August of 1982 just prior to disbanding. That tape, once one of the great lost gems of DC punk, was later released by the Peterbilt label as the one-sided 12" called "8/2/82". Though presently out-of-print, there are plans to re-release that final set of material sometime in the near future.) 10.00
MARGINAL MAN double image CD (in your eye records - This is the enhanced CD re-issued in 2000 by In Your Eye Records, the bands own label. The CD includes re-mastered songs from the original Double Image LP plus live Quick Time video clips from 6 additional songs and a 20 page CD booklet.) 13.00
MODERN LIFE IS WAR Stagger Lee CD + 7" (LTD) (equal vision - This is a limited edtion, colored vinyl 7"+CD package featuring two songs from the "Midnight In America" full-length and the complete "Midnight In America" record on compact disc.) 15.00
MODERN LIFE IS WAR Midnight In America CD (equal vision - In 2005 Modern Life Is War signed with Deathwish Inc. and spent the next few months writing and recording songs for what would become their second album, "Witness," which was released in June 2005. Deathwish reissued "My Love. My Way." in the fall of 2006, and the band hit the road with Strike Anywhere and Bane followed by a successful winter tour with Converge. RAIN La Vache Qui Rit CD (peterpbilt/ dischord - This CD features re-mastered versions of the songs originally released on the (long out of print) Peterbilt 12" Rain, formed in 1986, was inspired by the Revolution Summer musical movement in Washington DC and was one of the key bands of its second wave. A few years after its release Rain’s 12” was out of print making their music completely unavailable for the last 15 years, a situation unresolved till now with the re-release of La Vache Qui Rit, along with Deadline's 8/2/82, on CD in conjunction with Dischord Records. The re-release features full re-mastering of the six tracks, as well as a three panel letter-pressed sleeve modeled after the manila envelope artwork of the original Peterbilt vinyl EP.) 10.00
TULSA DRONE Songs From A Mean Season CD (perpetual motion machine TULSA DRONE follow up their critically acclaimed 2004 debut "No Wake" with ten blistering new songs of sonic invention and emotional force. "Songs From A Mean Season" offers a volatile mix of bass hammered dulcimer, electric guitars, bass, and percussion with subtle brass, late-night organs and more. Produced by Scott Minor of Sparklehorse. "Tulsa Drone is the sound of weeds sprouting out of cracked concrete. They write asphalt meditations on the urban existence. The group’s second release Songs from a Mean Season opens with the pensive plodding of “Monongahela.” Guitarists Eric Grotz and Scott Hudgins imply more than is actually heard. They never make literal statements, approaching their guitars as subtle sound generators instead of six-stringed instruments. The brooding spaghetti western “We’ll Take Oregon Hill” (featuring fine Theremin work by Stephen Dunnington) and the David Lynch dream sequence of “Risk Guitar” utilize Peter Neff’s creeping dulcimer to haunt the compositions. Neff’s presence in the group gives everything they do a measured consideration. Produced by former Richmond resident and sometime Sparklehorse member Scott Minor, the sound is spacious with crystal clear clarity. The spaces in between the notes are almost as loud as the notes being played. Tulsa Drone provides the soundtrack… all you have to do is supply the movie." -Chris Bopst, Brick Weekly) 11.00
TAPES

Books/ Fanzines:
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN The Fugazi Photographs of Glen E. Friedman Book (burning flag press - HARDCOVER - This Book is being released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Fugazi's first show on September 3, 1987. "The 112-page, approx. 9"x11" hardcover book presents the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographic documentation of Fugazi's members in almost 200 color and black & white images captured by Friedman onstage and off between 1986 and Fugazi's last U.S. concert in 2002. Glen E. Friedman is considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, world-renowned for his prescient documentation of many of recent history's most iconic movements in pop culture. Among other worthy subjects, his lens has captured moments in the birth and evolution of radical skateboarding, hardcore punk, and hip-hop, as Friedman played a firsthand role in their development. IN A FROZEN SEA: A Year with Sigur Ros Issue One Book (artist in residence - In a Frozen Sea: A Year with Sigur Ros follows the band through their native Iceland during last year's Takk world tour. Fans will get a 32-page book of beautiful pictures of Iceland -- which I truly must visit soon -- along with interviews of the band that, according to the Web site, capture the band "in their words, in their world." But first, you'll have to decide: do you want the standard “classic” editionArtist in Residence, or A+R, is a new quarterly music publication that may bring a new level of understanding and appreciation of your favorite musicians. The first issue is available now and focuses on Sigur Ros, which seems to be an incredibly smart move. There's a certain amount of credibility earned for choosing a band that's stunningly talented but not swimming in the mainstream. MINGERING MIKE - The Amazing Career of an Imaginary Soul Superstar Book (self published –
9 x 9.5 inches (22.9 x 24.1 cm), Paperback, 192 pages; 136 color illustrations; 20 b/w illustrations.
In 2003 two record diggers (Dori Hadar and Frank Beylotte) stumbled into the world of Mingering Mike at a flea market. There they discovered a collection of albums that were made solely of cardboard, each intricately crafted with gatefold interiors, extensive liner notes, and grooves drawn onto the "vinyl." The crates contained albums not only by Mingering Mike, but also other unheard of artists such as Joseph War, the Big "D," and Rambling Ralph, on labels such as Fake Records, Inc., Decision, Sex, and Mother Goose. There were even soundtracks to imaginary kung fu films and a benefit album for sickle cell anemia. Hadar posted pictures of the albums on Soulstrut and Mike instantly became a cult hero. He tracked Mike down and eventually Mike revealed his story of how as a lonesome teenager he dreamt of being a soul singer, songwriter and producer. And how he lived out his dream by creating an amazing imaginary career for himself.) 25.00
