AFTER THE BOMBS - Spoils of war (2008/TOTAL END) 7" 4,- €
HARDCORE-PUNK. A 3 track 7" from Montreal's AFTER THE BOMBS. Once again, combine the best of classic DISCHARGE style hardcore-punk and SACRILEGE era of thrashy punk, with lots of metal hooks and Jannick's defiantly strong female vocals. You'll get 2 full on fast ragers with blazing solos and a well down BATHORY coverversion. Another solid release by this band. The cover was drawn by Rat Grinder a talented up and coming artist.

PROGRESSIVE-METAL. Debut full-length from Savannah's swamp metal-trio, BLACK TUSK. With a triple vocal attack and a sound alternating between sludgy, heavy southern-rock tinged crust and breakneck blasts harkening back to the skaterock crossover bands of the '80s, the BLACK TUSK contribute their own take on the full bore, brutal sound Savannah bands are known for. BRAINWORMS / DYNAMITE ARROWS - split (2008/RORSCHACH) 7" 4,- €
HARDCORE/PUNK. Richmond's BRAINWORMS and Brooklyn's DYNAMITE ARROWS team up together for this raging record. BRAINWORMS bring forth 2 new songs in the same vein as last year's split with the CATALYST. The tracks are arguably the bands most technically and interesting work yet. DYNAMITE ARROWS drop 2 bomb pop-punk tracks on this record. They have been rippin' it up in Brooklyn for some time now playing some of the catchiest east bay style pop-punk that you can point a beer in the air to.
CELESTE - Nihiliste(s) (2008/DENOVALI) LP 10,- €
SCREAMO-HARDCORE. This is one hell of a melodic ride through screamo riff city. This is the follow up to their "pessimiste(s)" release and also their 1st full-length. You can not fuck with these ex-MIHAI EDRISH riffs. They are simply ingenius and this debut from CELESTE immediately sets the tone! It's definitely something for all of you who like dark and heavy stuff in the vein of old CULT OF LUNA, BREACH, SWITCHBLADE or AMEN RA. Check these French lads out and once. Twice as long, twice as mean and twice as good.
CONGA FURY - Chaotic noise (2008/SIX WEEKS) LP 10,- € / CD 10,50 €
THRASH-HARDCORE. With a name like CONGA FURY, you can probably guess what you are getting: total Japanese thrashcore destruction! This material is hands down one of the meanest, nastiest thrash records to come from Japan in a while. Originally destined to be released by Slap-A-Ham Records (now defunct), Six Weeks has been hand picked to be the only label on the planet worthy of releasing this monster hardcore disc. Along with the god-like chaotic noise of this band you get full color Japanese anime-styled artwork and a 12 page booklet that totally amazes the eye. If out-of-control Japanese thrash is your game, start the pit with this crazed mayhem! Now finally with intense full color artwork and remastered especially for vinyl!
DRY-ROT - 3 records on 1 cd (2008/PARTS UNKNOWN) CD 10,- €
NOISE-HARDCORE. On this nice CD are 3 releases from DRY-ROT out of Southern California compiled. On there 1st 7" there were compared to the like of DIE KREUZEN, VOID and UNITED MUTATION, but they threw a total wrench in the works by releasing a follow-up that sounded more like the soundtrack of Twin Peaks or some other David Lynch creep fest. They followed this with a 7" on Painkiller Records, that touched on the theme of human enslavement, based on the real life exploits of a sadist scum monger from out West. As an added bonus a few live jams are thrown on the end.
ENEMY ALLIANCE / INDECISION ALARM, THE - split (2007/HORROR BUSINESS) CD 10,- €
HARDCORE-PUNK. ENEMY ALLIANCE is the new band of Rodrigo and Fredrik both from SATANIC SURFERS teamed up with Daniel & Flygare of VENEREA. This new brewed songs are amazing. Musically the band stands were SATANIC SURFERS left off, yet they added a more hardcore orientated feel. THE INDECISION ALARM is all about energetic and sincere, melodic hardcore. 3 of the 4 members are known from ADHESIVE. Fans of PROPAGANDHI, I SPY and HOT WATER MUSIC will go ape shit. This is one of the top melodic hardcore-punkrock outputs this year. Sweden is back on the map!
ENVY - A dead sinking story (2008/TEMPORY RESIDENCE) DoLP 16,50 €
POST-HARDCORE. An epic fusion of anger, sadness and strength; a sonic journey through incredible songwriting and newly incorporated electronic soundscapes which give the listener only an inch or two of breathing room. Both breathtaking and unrelenting, "A dead sinking story" clocks in at an epic 62 min.. "A dead sinking story" is widely regarded as an innovative high water mark for hardcore. They would seem to fall into the emo category, but they blow away 95% of today's practitioners of said genre.
FIRST STEP, THE - Connection (2008/RIVALRY) 7" 4,50 €
SXE-HARDCORE. The "Connection" 7" consists of 4 brand new songs from THE FIRST STEP. With their roots secured in the speedy, intense delivery of YOUTH OF TODAY and the positive mindset of INSTED, the band is showing more and more of a tendency towards MINOR THREAT's "Out of step" era with this release. The speed and power of the previous recordings is still here, but the song writing pays more attention to detail, using more harmony and unique timing. The D.C. inspiration is very evident and documents the continued growth of THE FIRST STEP. This is essential, of course. Colored vinyl available.
GAS - 1982 to 1986 (2008/PARTNERS IN CRIME) LP 11,- €
HARDCORE. Partners in Crime are roaring back from a long break with a great re-issue of the legendary '80s cult band GAS from Hiroshima, Japan. You'll get 20 classic tracks from that proto era of Japanese hardcore combining the quick attack of STALIN but starting to incorporate some of the more progressive and metallic infleunces of later Japanese hardcore. This is the 1st time a lot of the material appears on hard Vinyl, being previously on ( now super collectable) flexis, some live sound board tracks. A must have for any Japanese record collector.
GRAVES AT SEA - Documents of grief (2008/KREATION/LIFE IS ABUSE) LP 14,- € / CD 11,- €
DOOM. GRAVES AT SEA from Arizona have made a lot of noise in the underground the past years. Already considered one of the best doom bands in existence the band has yet to issue their debut. "Documents of grief" was self-released by the band back in 2003 and quickly sold-out and hasn't been seen since. The band followed it up with a release for the Southern Lord 7" series and then with the highly praised split with ASUNDER. For those who missed out before, this is an essential document of doom's present and future.
HOLD, THE - Need (2008/COALITION) LP 10,50 €
HARDCORE. THE HOLD hail from Canada and formed in 2006. After several demos "Need" is their debut record. Raw sounding early '80s hardcore in the vein of early BLACK FLAG or MEATMEN. Authentic and original sounding. This record is strictly limited to 400 copies with 10 originals on side A and awesome silkscreened artwork on side B. Get this - you wont be dissappointed if you like early '80s hardcore.
KINGDOM OF SORROW - s/t (2008/RELAPSE) LPcol 16,- € / DigiCD 13,50 €
METAL. Boasting a lineup that includes members of such infamous metal bands as HATEBREED, DOWN, CROWBAR, and more, the infamous KINGDOM OF SORROW has been unveiled. The brainchild of Jamey Jasta and riff-master Kirk Windstein, KINGDOM OF SORROW tears through an 11 track barrage of some of the most punishing, straight-up metal in years. KINGDOM OF SORROW is a nice combination of Jasta and Windstein's other bands. It has elements of harsh and fierce metalcore, but also a southern-metal and stoner groove. You'll hear slow to mid-tempo songs with a lot of melody and a lot of aggression along with metallic hardcore influenced, breakdown infused brutality. KINGDOM OF SORROW is the incredible next step in the illustrious careers of two of metals most-celebrated heavyweights.
MOTHER OF MERCY - No eden (2008/COLLAPSE) 7" 4,50 €
HARDCORE. Heavy without being metal, mid-tempo without losing energy, Pennsylvania's MOTHER OF MERCY appeared with their demo in early 2007. Featuring members of LET DOWN, this band steers to a darker, heavier side while firmly entrenched in the hardcore world. "No eden" captures the power and raw introduction of this first recording, an often intangibly perfect discovery of a band's identity and sound still to come.
NASUM - Doombringer (2008/RELAPSE) LPcol 14,- € / CD 13,50 €
GRINDCORE. NASUM was the undisputed leader of grindcore's 2nd wave and nothing proves this more than "Doombringer", a blistering 25 min. live set of untapped rage recorded in Osaka, Japan on the bands final Japanese tour. The unflinching brutality and top-flight musicianship of the 16 songs and the accompanying video for "Scoop" more than documents that fact. Simply stated, "Doombringer" proves why NASUM set the standard for grindcore in the 21st century. This is the final chapter of NASUM. Limited colored vinyl in stock!
NEGATIVE FX - Government war plans (2008/MOULTY) CD 12,- €
HARDORE. This collection of songs was originally released as a tape, primarily to trade with groups on the Dischord label and "Process of elimination" 7" and was released as part of the "Government war plans" LP on Parts Unknown Records in 2005(sold-out), but is now available for the 1st time on CD. It contains 21 tracks of NEGATIVE FX's intense Boston hardcore sound with Choke of SLAPSHOT on vocals. Rawer than the regular LP, these recordings showcase one of the best early '80s Boston hardcore bands in their infancy.
OAKHELM - Betwixt and between (2008/KREATION/FOREST MOON) DigiCD 12,- € / CD 14,- €
BLACK-METAL. Viking/Folk black-metal from the Pacific Northwest which features ex-members of ASSÜCK and FALL OF THE BASTARDS and current members of L'ACEPHALE. This album is one of the better pieces of auditory art to come out of the crusty Northwest in the past. Although not as epic as a band such as LUDICRA, they do have more of the traditional raw black-metal sound. For fans of ENSLAVED and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM. Comes with well designed artwork by Kris Verwimp (IMMORTAL, ABSU).
ONE CHOICE - Last one down (2008/NEW AGE) MCD 8,50 €
SXE-HARDCORE. ONE CHOICE is a new Southern California hardcore band that boasts Vic of COLLISION on vocals and Mike Hartsfield of OÙTSPOKEN on bass. The 7 songs on this MCD are more agressive, got more groove but are also faster and tighter than the members have done before. They bring a somewhat melodic sound to this release, but keep the songs short, fast and dedicated to the straight-edge, of course.
PARASYTIC - Hymn (2008/DESPOTIC) LP 10,50 €
CRUST-HARDCORE. Debut record by this Richmond, VA band. "Hymn" contains 12 songs of raging metallic crust-hardcore, but nothing remotely generic in any way. Intelligent lyrics and extremely talented musicianship this is sure to blow some minds. Wailing guitar solos on top of ferocious riffs and the drumming is just fucking sick and punk as fuck. Hints of old-school thrash combined with the love of metal and the passion of punk, there's no boundary for this album. "Hymn" comes in a full color gatefold with some pretty damn amazing artwork, insert and a huge poster.
PERTH EXPRESS - Harrow and wealdstone (2008/VENDETTA) LP 10,- €
HARDCORE. "Harrow and wealdstone" contains 6 new songs and a monumental BLACK HEART PROCESSION cover song! This 6 songs are much more tight and dirty straight in your face. They added more dirty rock riffs and got a little bit away from the modern d-beat of their previous releases. If you like this common new stuff like DOOMRIDERS, LORDS etc. mixed up with some TRAGEDY, HIS HERO IS GONE and early MASTODON - this will burn your ears. Its brutal and the sounds and the coverartwork is just amazing. Rarely is hardcor so pure and hard-hitting.
SKELETONWITCH - Beyond the permafrost (2008/HYPERREALIST/PROSTETIC) LP 11,- € / CD 13,- €
THRASH-METAL. This freaking great Ohio metal band's roots go deep, their sound being a meld of NWOBHM tradition and the precision of Bay-Area thrash, with elements of death-metal added for extra fun. On "Beyond the permafrost" SKELETONWITCH combine yet again the crossover thrash of MUNICIPAL WASTE with the more traditional metal sounds of MEGADETH and early METALLICA on this well done debut full-length. SKELETONWITCH are doing a highly respectable job of keeping the beer soaked old-school banner waving high.
THIS IS HELL - Misfortunes (2008/TRUSTKILL) LPcol 10,- € / CD 11,- €
MODERN-HARDCORE. After touring relentlessly in support of "Sundowning", Long Island's THIS IS HELL is releasing their sophomore album "Misfortunes". This is about as authentically nasty and aggressive as the New York hardcore style could get without becoming something else entirely. From the 1st chord which emerges from a swirl of feedback, "Misfortunes" is a juggernaut which never slows. Whereas most bands would opt for the stripped down, more intimate song to break things up, these guys ignore the laws of common decency and crank it up even faster. "Misfortunes" shows what happens when the youth-crew grow up, master their instruments and get some decent money to spend in the studio: all hell breaks loose!
TRASH TALK - Plagues (2008/MALFUNCTION) MCD 8,50 €
HARDCORE: Comprised of 6 violent anthems to the diseased and destructive survivors of a dead world, "Plagues" is TRASH TALK's dizzying soundtrack to the impending and unavoidable apocalypse. With every explosive note, they delve deeper into that bleak vision. Now available on CD with the "Walking disease" 7" as bonus tracks.
UGLY LAW - s/t (2008/ATAVISTIC) 7" 4,- €
HARDCORE. These born again fellas from a scene before (members of UNSEEN FORCE, HONOR ROLE and JUDGE DREDD) thrash through 6 ripping tracks of classic early '80s hardcore. Good production and very good musicianship throughout this little platter here. Definetly a must have for fans of stuff like DIE KREUZEN, ARTICLES OF FAITH and old, classic Richmond hardcore. Comes with reversible cover for the picky folk.
v/a BANDS THAT DON'T GIVE A SHIT (2007/SOCIAL NAPALM) 7" 4,50 €
HARDCORE-PUNK. After several of the more established bands in the Boston D.I.Y. scene broke up, 2005-2006 saw the formation of several new bands composed mainly of the same people taking their place. The goal of this compilation was to document these bands in their formative stages to showcase what is happening around Boston currently. The Boston side contains SOCIAL CIRCKLE, POISON CONTROL and the CONVERSIONS (all of them feature ex-SLEEPER CELL, EPEDIMC etc. members). POISON CONTROL ended up breaking up when the comp was in it's formative stages, so WITCHES WITH DICKS is on it instead. The Lowell side contains OUT COLD, SGT. SLAUGHTER and VIOLENT NUNS. Each band provides 1 track, most of which are exclusive to the comp. Limited to just 500 copies and nearly gone!
v/a PHOENIX THRASH DETONATION (2008/625) 7" 4,- €
THRASH-HARDCORE. This is part of the 625 Barbaric Thrash installment. As with any comp in the hardcore-punk world, this took too long to come out and is quickly becoming outdated. Half of these bands are now defunct, with this also being SNAGGLETOOTH's and VIRGINS' only tracks ever released. Beside those 2 bands this compilation features bands born and nurtured on the dry-heat of the Arizona desert: GET DESTROYED, THINK FAST, LANDMINE MARATHON, GEORGE MOSHINGTON and CALL THE COPS. This 7" is strictly limited so act quick.

BIBIO - Fi (2008/MUSH) LP 12,- €
AMBIENT/ELECTRO. "Fi" is the debut release from central England's Stephen Wilkinson aka BIBIO. "Fi" is a triumph of saturation, distortion, and obscurity. Comprised of 17 ambient songs built on samples of his own work rather than the work of others, "fi" is rich in musical imagery. Using manipulated live instrumentation, field recordings and a strong portion of effects, BIBIO's musical influences-from THE INCREDIBLE STRING BAND, Joao Gilberto, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, TORTOISE. The album is a revelation in the emotional power of lo-fi ambient compositions and clearly establishes him a producer who has developed his own unique voice.

INDIE-ROCK. As the creative force behind Boston's GLORYTELLERS, Geoff Farina is probably better known for fronting indie stalwarts KARATE and SECRET STARS. GLORYTELLERS are musicians' who have been individually mining the dusty bins of 20th century American music for many years, and revitalize their findings with this unique set of delicate ballads. In GLORYTELLERS, Geoff Farina is more storyteller than proselytizer. He delivers lyrics with the same staccato, stream-of-consciousness style that helped define KARATE's sound, but these image-laden lyrics are decidedly more narrative.
IDA - Lovers prayers (2008/POLYVIYL) DoLP 15,50 € / DigiCD 13,50 €
INDIE-ROCK. IDA make their triumphant return with "Lovers prayers", their 1st new album in 3 years and their clearest, most dynamic to date. A collection of songs that invoke the proximity of the invisible and the reality of love with an earned grace that comes from experience, persistence, and an undiminished enthusiasm for making sounds together. IDA cranked out a collection of songs that remain true to their hushed sound, with both male and female vocals evoking a range of emotions from this now legendary Brooklyn band. The vinyl version limited edition to 1000 copies of 180gr in a deluxe double gatefold jacket and contains the mp3 download code!
MONO - The sky remains the same as ever (2008/TEMPORARY RESIDENCE) DVD 17,- €
POST-ROCK. This is a nearly 120 min. document of the recording sessions for 2006's "You are there", and the several world tours that followed its release. In addition to the dozen live songs documented in all their sweaty fury, the film captures the decidedly less glamorous aspects of being an underground rock band from a foreign country (Japan), expressing sentiments through body language out of necessity, and driving, lots and lots of driving. Most effectively, the film displays the friendships that have made MONO's journeys enjoyable, and the fanatical dedication that has made it all possible.
SCOTT REYNOLDS & THE STEAMING BEAST - Adventure boy (2008/SUBURBAN HOME) LP 14,- € / CD 13,- €
INDIE/POST-ROCK. When you are SCOTT RAYNOLDS and you have fronted one of the greatest punk bands on the planet, ALL, as well as incredible groups like GOODBYE HARRY and THE PAVERS. SCOTT REYNOLDS latest project, THE STEAMING BEAST, is a natural progression of his past outlets, but if you haven't been paying attention, it might catch you off guard. The record finds Scott working with multi-instrumentalist Dave Fridmann and FLAMING LIP's member, Steven Drozd which sounds a lot like you imagine it might. The record is the perfect middle ground between ALL and the FLAMING LIP sounding at times like THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS and at other times WEEN and at other times like PINBACK. The record is great and that is all that should matter.

IMPULSE INT'L, THE - Run and hide/arm the girls (2008/DERANGED) 7" 4,50 €
POP-PUNK. From the ashes of DIRT BIKE ANNIE (Dirtnap Records) comes the IMPULSE, INT'L. A trio from New Jersey that delivers 2 excellent guitar driven power-pop gems. They mix the guitar hooks of the REAL KIDS with the upbeat tempo of UK power-popers the BUZZCOCKS. Nothing complicated, just really catchy punk!
LEMURIA - Get better (2008/ASIAN MAN) LP 11,- € / CD 11,50 €
POP-PUNK. Ahhhhh.. LEMURIA rules! Punk ethics, great songs, nice people, and yup... That should be good enough these days right? Well, after releasing several 7"s and splits (THE ERGS, KIND OF LIKE SPITTING, FRAME) "Get better" will be their 1st full-length. Bringing 12 tracks of melodic pop-punk with female vocals, bringing to mind bands like DISCOUNT, JAWBREAKER and THE WEAKERTHANS.
MAJOR ACCIDENT - The clockwork demos (2008/DURTY MICK) LPcol 12,50 €
STREET-PUNK. MAJOR ACCIDENT was formed in 1977 with 2 brothers at the helm. "The clockwork demos" was a warm up session before they were to do their 1st recording. In the demos we hear the band covering songs from THE RAMONES, THE CLASH and STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, along with some of their earlier material. This album is a sound of the past and a definitive piece of punk-rock history! Limited to 500 handnumbered copies on colored vinyl!
NO MEANS NO - 0+2=1 (2008/WRONG) DoLPcol 16,- €
JAZZ-PUNK. They are simply superb, great lyrics and a growling bass, exquisite percussions. Possibly Canada's pre-eminent power trio, NO MEANS NO have been abrading delicate ears with their complex rhythm-heavy funk-punk and promulgating leftist social commentary across North America since 1980. "0+2=1" is a more than usually accessible mixture of the catchy "Now", the amusing "Every day i start to ooze" and the disturbed "Ghosts". Now available again on colored vinyl. Highly recommended - and then go and buy; you can`t go "Wrong".
POSSESSED BY PAUL JAMES - Cold and blind (2008/VOODOO RHYTHM) LP 12,50 € / DigiCD 13,50 €
BLUES-PUNK. From the swampy depths of the Floridian Everglades comes bluegrass blues-punk Konrad Wert aka POSSESSED BY PAUL JAMES. Bearing that name in honour of his father and grandfather and armed with nothing but fiddle, banjo, guitar and a battered suitcase POSSESSED BY PAUL JAMES sings, growls and hollers songs of love and loss and exorcises his demons. To the contrary, his raw and desperate sound is the ideal soundtrack for uncertain times where questions outweigh the answers - a shot of untarnished wild human emotion to soothe our aching souls.
ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT - R.i.p. (2008/VAGRANT) CD+DVD 16,- €
PUNK-ROCK. "RIP" is a live recording of ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT's last show on Halloween night, 2005. Included in this 2 disc set is an audio CD with 20 tracks as well as a DVD that features an additional 6 songs for a total of 26. A must have for any ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT fan.
STATUES - Aux (2008/P. TRASH) LP 13,- €
POP-PUNK. After the release of their 2nd full-length "New people make us nervous", these Canadians are becoming more and more popular. To keep your cold turkey for their sweet and gritty sound at bay, P.Trash puts out "Aux", titled after STATUES 1st full-length, originally released as a CD only. In agreement with the band, P.Trash picked the best 8 songs from this record and the boys chipped in 2 more unreleased songs. It's hard to believe that pearls like these haven't found their way on a record before. If you liked the pop-appeal of ''New people make us nerous" you'll get your fix of harmonies and catchy melodies here. NOISE-HARDCORE. On this nice CD are 3 releases from DRY-ROT out of Southern California compiled. On there 1st 7" there were compared to the like of DIE KREUZEN, VOID and UNITED MUTATION, but they threw a total wrench in the works by releasing a follow-up that sounded more like the soundtrack of Twin Peaks or some other David Lynch creep fest. They followed this with a 7" on Painkiller Records, that touched on the theme of human enslavement, based on the real life exploits of a sadist scum monger from out West. As an added bonus a few live jams are thrown on the end.
ENEMY ALLIANCE / INDECISION ALARM, THE - split (2007/HORROR BUSINESS) CD 10,- €
HARDCORE-PUNK. ENEMY ALLIANCE is the new band of Rodrigo and Fredrik both from SATANIC SURFERS teamed up with Daniel & Flygare of VENEREA. This new brewed songs are amazing. Musically the band stands were SATANIC SURFERS left off, yet they added a more hardcore orientated feel. THE INDECISION ALARM is all about energetic and sincere, melodic hardcore. 3 of the 4 members are known from ADHESIVE. Fans of PROPAGANDHI, I SPY and HOT WATER MUSIC will go ape shit. POST-HARDCORE. An epic fusion of anger, sadness and strength; a sonic journey through incredible songwriting and newly incorporated electronic soundscapes which give the listener only an inch or two of breathing room. Both breathtaking and unrelenting, "A dead sinking story" clocks in at an epic 62 min.. "A dead sinking story" is widely regarded as an innovative high water mark for hardcore. They would seem to fall into the emo category, but they blow away 95% of today's practitioners of said genre.

SXE-HARDCORE. The "Connection" 7" consists of 4 brand new songs from THE FIRST STEP. With their roots secured in the speedy, intense delivery of YOUTH OF TODAY and the positive mindset of INSTED, the band is showing more and more of a tendency towards MINOR THREAT's "Out of step" era with this release. The speed and power of the previous recordings is still here, but the song writing pays more attention to detail, using more harmony and unique timing. DOOM. GRAVES AT SEA from Arizona have made a lot of noise in the underground the past years. Already considered one of the best doom bands in existence the band has yet to issue their debut. "Documents of grief" was self-released by the band back in 2003 and quickly sold-out and hasn't been seen since. The band followed it up with a release for the Southern Lord 7" series and then with the highly praised split with ASUNDER. For those who missed out before, this is an essential document of doom's present and future.

KINGDOM OF SORROW is a nice combination of Jasta and Windstein's other bands. It has elements of harsh and fierce metalcore, but also a southern-metal and stoner groove. It contains 21 tracks of NEGATIVE FX's intense Boston hardcore sound with Choke of SLAPSHOT on vocals. Rawer than the regular LP, these recordings showcase one of the best early '80s Boston hardcore bands in their infancy.

SXE-HARDCORE. ONE CHOICE is a new Southern California hardcore band that boasts Vic of COLLISION on vocals and Mike Hartsfield of OÙTSPOKEN on bass. The 7 songs on this MCD are more agressive, got more groove but are also faster and tighter than the members have done before. They bring a somewhat melodic sound to this release, but keep the songs short, fast and dedicated to the straight-edge, of course.
PARASYTIC - Hymn (2008/DESPOTIC) LP 10,50 €
CRUST-HARDCORE. Debut record by this Richmond, VA band. "Hymn" contains 12 songs of raging metallic crust-hardcore, but nothing remotely generic in any way. Intelligent lyrics and extremely talented musicianship this is sure to blow some minds. Wailing guitar solos on top of ferocious riffs and the drumming is just fucking sick and punk as fuck. Hints of old-school thrash combined with the love of metal and the passion of punk, there's no boundary for this album. "Hymn" comes in a full color gatefold with some pretty damn amazing artwork, insert and a huge poster.

HARDCORE. "Harrow and wealdstone" contains 6 new songs and a monumental BLACK HEART PROCESSION cover song! This 6 songs are much more tight and dirty straight in your face. They added more dirty rock riffs and got a little bit away from the modern d-beat of their previous releases. If you like this common new stuff like DOOMRIDERS, LORDS etc. mixed up with some TRAGEDY, HIS HERO IS GONE and early MASTODON - this will burn your ears. Its brutal and the sounds and the coverartwork is just amazing. Rarely is hardcor so pure and hard-hitting.
SKELETONWITCH - Beyond the permafrost (2008/HYPERREALIST/PROSTETIC) LP 11,- € / CD 13,- €
THRASH-METAL. This freaking great Ohio metal band's roots go deep, their sound being a meld of NWOBHM tradition and the precision of Bay-Area thrash, with elements of death-metal added for extra fun. On "Beyond the permafrost" SKELETONWITCH combine yet again the crossover thrash of MUNICIPAL WASTE with the more traditional metal sounds of MEGADETH and early METALLICA on this well done debut full-length. SKELETONWITCH are doing a highly respectable job of keeping the beer soaked old-school banner waving high.

MODERN-HARDCORE. After touring relentlessly in support of "Sundowning", Long Island's THIS IS HELL is releasing their sophomore album "Misfortunes". This is about as authentically nasty and aggressive as the New York hardcore style could get without becoming something else entirely. From the 1st chord which emerges from a swirl of feedback, "Misfortunes" is a juggernaut which never slows. Whereas most bands would opt for the stripped down, more intimate song to break things up, these guys ignore the laws of common decency and crank it up even faster. "Misfortunes" shows what happens when the youth-crew grow up, master their instruments and get some decent money to spend in the studio: all hell breaks loose!

The goal of this compilation was to document these bands in their formative stages to showcase what is happening around Boston currently. The Boston side contains SOCIAL CIRCKLE, POISON CONTROL and the CONVERSIONS (all of them feature ex-SLEEPER CELL, EPEDIMC etc. members). POISON CONTROL ended up breaking up when the comp was in it's formative stages, so WITCHES WITH DICKS is on it instead. The Lowell side contains OUT COLD, SGT. SLAUGHTER and VIOLENT NUNS. Each band provides 1 track, most of which are exclusive to the comp. Limited to just 500 copies and nearly gone!

In GLORYTELLERS, Geoff Farina is more storyteller than proselytizer. SCOTT REYNOLDS latest project, THE STEAMING BEAST, is a natural progression of his past outlets, but if you haven't been paying attention, it might catch you off guard. The record finds Scott working with multi-instrumentalist Dave Fridmann and FLAMING LIP's member, Steven Drozd which sounds a lot like you imagine it might. The record is the perfect middle ground between ALL and the FLAMING LIP sounding at times like THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS and at other times WEEN and at other times like PINBACK. The record is great and that is all that should matter.

To keep your cold turkey for their sweet and gritty sound at bay, P.Trash puts out "Aux", titled after STATUES 1st full-length, originally released as a CD only. In agreement with the band, P.Trash picked the best 8 songs from this record and the boys chipped in 2 more unreleased songs. It's hard to believe that pearls like these haven't found their way on a record before. If you liked the pop-appeal of ''New people make us nerous" you'll get your fix of harmonies and catchy melodies here.
