BRUTAL TRUTH/ TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION split 7" (emetic - BRUTAL TRUTH
does Sister Fucker and TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION does Kill Your Boss
on this split 7" Black VINYL. Limited to 900) 5.00
CRIME DESIRE Nadir / Loathesome Ones 7" (life is a rape - With a new LP
just on the horizon, Crime Desire whets the record nerds' collective
palate with "Nadir" b/w the exclusive track "Loathesome Ones." These two
tracks mark a distinctively darker sound for the band, "Nadir" being a
plodding anti-cultural diatribe, while the flip snarls and sludges
along in all its reverbed out glory. You might be reminded of anyone from
Amebix to Samhain to Scratch Acid, but you certainly won't walk away
feeling stoked on life. Hand-numbered out of 200 copies.) 5.00
FIRE TEAM CHARLIE "s/t" 7" (ghost hunt - cathartic emo from the
sunbaked plains of texas. their music brings to mind every zine you read in
1993. in the vein of frail, four hundred years and rites of spring.
limited to 300. 270 covers screened by hellfish, 25 show release covers, 5
hand-drawn covers. black vinyl. split release with NY label wrapped in
plastic records.) 4.50
THE FIRST STEP connection 7" (rivalry - The "Connection" EP consists of
4 brand new songs from The First Step. With their roots secured in the
speedy, intense delivery of Youth Of Today and the positive mindset of
Insted, the band is showing more and more of a tendency towards Minor
Threat's "Out Of Step" era with this release. The speed and power of
the previous recordings is still here, but the song writing pays more
attention to detail, using more harmony and unique timing.) 5.00
HEALTH perfect skin 7“ (SUICIDE SQUEEZE - Los Angeles quartet Health
seamlessly intertwine a noise rock pastiche with an element of
ritualistic drone that is chalk full of raw synth, hauntingly gripping vocals and
topped with drums that effortlessly build from monotonous dredging to
spastic fills. This single features two electrifying versions of the
hit track "Perfect Skin," and is the first installment in a series of 7"
releases for SUICIDE SQUEEZE in 2008.) 5.00

ALCORN, SUSAN - And I Await The Resurrection of the Pedal LP (olde
english bee - "This is the fifth solo offering by the Houston, Texas-based
pedal steel sorceress, Susan Alcorn. 'The Heart Sutra' opens and is
inspired by the 'Sutra of the Heart of Transcendent Wisdom,' which was
delivered by Buddha 2,500 years ago. It is a beautiful, yet solemn work
that reverberates from within, as Susan strums those magical strings. The
title track, 'And I Await the Resurrection of the Pedal Steel Guitar,'
was inspired by Messiaen's 'Et Expecto Ressurectionum Mortuorum.' It
is a near 16-minute epic of stirring, haunting sounds. Each note is
stretched out and floats like a spirit on the wind in a graveyard. Ms.
Alcorn's approach to the pedal steel guitar is completely unique and she
doesn't quite sound like anyone else. If one is patient enough, they will
realize that she makes every note and space count.") 19.00
ANGELS OF LIGHT - We Are Him DLP (young god – ** Now on double vinyl -
with additional 4 songs not on other formats! ** The word on the street
is that this is Michael Gira's best record since those heady Swans
days - and indeed it would seem that "We Are Him" is a hugely impressive
collection of new work from this master craftsman. The 52 year old
impresario has again found himself joined by omnipresent folk/rock gang
Akron/Family, but he's also roped in a whole gaggle of extra musicians to
flesh the record out into the multi-layered masterpiece it is - we've
got Julia Kent from Antony and the Johnsons, folk vocal virtuoso Larkin
Grimm, Swans man Christoph Hahn, Robyn Hitchcock of REM, ex-God is my
Co-Pilot drummer Siobhan Duffy and many more making up a veritable
super-group of extraordinary talent. It would be hard to go wrong with all
this talent on show, but what 'We Are Him' showcases first and foremost
is Gira's extraordinary voice, and it has never sounded more assured or
more on form than it does here. Flitting between the almost Lou
Reed-isms of 'The Man We Left Behind', the folk singalong of 'Promise of
Water' and the incredible rock 'n roll stomp of 'We Are Him' Gira seems
almost chameleon-like in his ability, but the record never jars in its
rapid changing. The detail on here just has to be heard to be believed, but
at the core of it these tracks are empty bourbon tumblers and half
smoked cigarettes, smashed bottles and filthy playing cards. This is the
sound of America, and finally Gira seems to have been able to distil his
obvious knowledge and deep love of so many forms of music into one
epic twelve track record. It's the kind of album that on one listen might
sound upbeat with its careful instrumentation and drastic movements,
but the more you listen the more you get sucked into the shadowy lyrical
content and underlying melancholia, drawn by Gira's stunning imagery
and the subtly cynical instrumentation that complements it. An incredibly
diverse and breathtakingly complete album - you won't hear anything
else like it this year; that I can promise you. Huge recommendation.)

THE ASSASSINATORS sigt efter hjertet – LP (alerta antifascista -
finally 12 new songs by this amazing band from copenhagen. somewhere between
LA FRACTION and BAD RELIGION. LP comes with an 32 page booklet in
LP-size and a DIN A2 poster.) 10.00
BARRA HEAD go get beat up LP (play rec - Go Get Beat Up is Barra Head’s
third album. They’ve found a more melodic and immediate form but have
managed to maintain their distinct expression. The band has always been
an exciting acquaintance, both musically and lyrically, and that has
not changed on this record. Each track is served cool, dry and tight.
They won’t bring you easy answers or simple slogans, but prefer to ask
questions and describe the complex world they exist in.) 13.50

two pioneering Satanic Black Metal bands-- definitely essential for
diehard fans! On the VENOM side: "In League with Satan," "Bloodlust," "Die

BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL Four Freckle Constellation LP (conspiracy - 6 New
tracks by New Zealand's Birchville Cat Motel (Campbell Kneale).
Birchville Cat Motel has gained international recognition as one the bright
shining lights of drone-music. Kneale has to be one of the most exciting
proponents of the New Zealand noise-avantgarde scene, engaging the
full spectrum of electro-acoustic sound exploration over numerous releases
on such labels as Ecstatic Peace, Drunken Fish, Freedom From, Last
Visible Dog, Celebrate Psi Phenomenon,Insample and more … To listen to
Birchville Cat Motel, one must really free their mind. It is more than
just an aural experience. Being immersed in his soundscapes is like being
transported to another world, like a great composer, he puts each piece
in its perfect place as to leave the longest impression.
To say Kneale is a drone master is kind of an understatement. Over the
courses of too many releases to remember, he has constructed a sonic
arsenal to match any threats that may arise. 'Four Freckle Constellation
'is no less then a mindfuck of epic proportions… "I just want to make
beautiful things." -Campbell Kneale - Full colour fold out sleeve with
artwork by Seldon Hunt) 14.50
BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS skullgrind LP/CD (black market - The tech bar has
been raised over and over again with the likes of ground breaking bands
like Psyopus and The Dillinger Escape Plan coming from out of nowhere
over the past decade. There is a whole new generation of young people
with the ability to play their instruments like tech metal cyborgs since
they have been spoon fed Necrophagist and Nile from the moment they hit
middle school. It almost seems unnecessary for the creation of any of
these new tech bands unless they can hurdle that ridiculously high bar.
Behold...the Arctopus not only achieves that level, but sets it even
higher and spices things up in a way that sets them at the pinnacle of
not just the tech mountain, but keeps them at the summit of the prog,
instrumental and ambient scenes as well. Following their BMA debut,
Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning, the instrumental power-trio has put their
darker and more atmospheric spin on their sound with Skullgrid. Behold
have extracted the grit, rawness and obscured beauty of old black,
death and doom metal-- inspired by bands like Ulver, Darkthrone, Enslaved,
Morbid Angel, Death & Swans-- with the structures and harmonies of the
classical world-- composers like Berlo, Penderecki, Bartok,
Shostakovitch and Verese. They used the composing style of the classical world and
constructed the record straight to paper, tabbing the songs out
musically and then learning how to play them after the fact.
The result of the clash of these styles and influences ranging hundreds
of years is astounding. There are also elements of more contemporary
influences, like that of King Crimson, Watchtower, Naked City and the
Mahavishnu Orchestra. Despite the mechanically perfect musicianship, the
sounds have such an emotive air that paints clear pictures of various
moods and landscapes. The track Canada gives a musical portrayal of a
sweeping nordic landscape, while Scepters conjures images of ruling
thrones of darkness. Transient Exuberance captures fleeting moments of
excitement, one after the other and You are Number Six showcases mental
struggle and failed escape. The LP includes the CD enclosed within the
layout.) 13.50
BIRDS OF MAYA - Volume 1 LP (holy mountain - Are Holy Mountain on a
roll right now or what? After the mammoth Wooden Shjips record and the
comparably excellent Blues Control album comes this wonderful LP from
Philadelphian garage rockers Birds Of Maya, whose immense riffing recalls
Cream and Black Sabbath at their most psyched. This is no dullard
pentatonic, pseudo blues-sludge nonsense though, these guys can really cut it
as musicians. Some of the far out wah-wah guitar solos are
particularly arresting, sounding loosened up and dangerous while the impossibly
heavy rhythm section lays down an authoritative groove. This thing sounds
like it was engineered by whoever records Times New Viking albums too,
coated in a ridiculously loud veneer of high-gain fuzz and sticky
noise syrup. Tremendous.) 17.00
BLACK TUSK Passage Through Purgatory LP (hyperrealist - Debut full
length LP from Savannah's swamp metal trio, BlackTusk. With a triple vocal
attack and a sound alternating between sludgy, heavy southern rock
tinged crust and breakneck blasts harkening back to the skaterock crossover
bands of the '80s, the Tusk contribute their own take on the full
bore, brutal sound Savannah bands are known for. Produced by Phillip Cope
(Kylesa).) 13.00
BOSSK -I II - 2xLP (garden of exile records - UKs best kept secret!
... outside of the UK that is. Formed in 2005, Kent band Bossk have
quickly risen to recognition following their 2006 debut release, .1 and
extensive touring with an impressive list of bands, including Cult Of
Luna, The Ocean, Yndi Halda, Baroness, Capricorns, Doomriders, Envy,
Ephel Duath & The Hope Conspiracy. 2007 will see the second recording
titled, .2. We are very happy to release both .1 and .2 together as a
gatefold 2xLP.Majestic mighty chugging riffs, glorious atmospheric
breakdowns, slow eerie build up, cinematic building of tension and mood ending in
strong climaxes. This and much more can be said about their music,
Bossk offers it all, and more! This is highly recommended for everyone who
likes Cult of Luna, Pelican or Isis) 18.00
CHROMATICS in the city 12" (italians do it better - At the start of
the year, Chromatics wowed us with ethereal new vocalist Ruth on "In The
City." Now we have the longer, sexier and obviously therefore better
12" version where the sinister strings take us on a journey further down
the concrete river to deserted, shadowy and rain soaked citadels. LP
Shining Violence is so close now that we can taste its neon blue metallic
shine.) 12.50
COFFINS - MORTUARY IN DARKNESS DLP (kreation Old-school Death / Doom
Metal LIVES!! Japan's COFFINS have brought back the horrific sounds of
this destructive form of metal with their crushing debut album "Mortuary
in Darkness"! This is one of the most supremely heaviest albums ever,
guaranteed to bring back memories of the classic best by pioneers
AUTOPSY, HELLHAMMER, and WINTER! Features morbidly wonderful cover artwork
by death metal legend Chris Moyen (BEHERIT, BLASPHEMY, INCANTATION,
MORTICIAN, etc) Double LP in gatefold jacket with 11" x 17" poster and 2
bonus tracks!
Split release with Parasitic Records) 18.00
D. CHARLES SPEER & THE HELIX After Hours LP (black dirt - The
inimitable Mr. Speer coined the term himself upon titling his pre-Helix full
length release… Forgotten Country. Not so much a forgotten people of a
state or a rural area. Not so either some South’s gonna rise again
moonshine. More so a return to a way of presenting a music in the context of a
tradition (something those boys in the band are pretty high on.) But
this isn’t your grandfather’s Bakersfield we’re dealing with. Tho’ the
tongue of the balladeer may spin tales ripe with a cast of characters
including “the Pastor” Randolph Healey, Cheese Frog, the man from HHS,
Uncle Ernie, that guy with the black mustache and red Caddy who stole
your girl, and the true born sons of Levi, he sings them not only with the
twang of the roadhouse, but tainted with the grit of the streets of
the big city. As one casual listener once noted to the band after a
performance, “You guys play both types… Country and Psych.” And it’s true
that the sounds contained on After Hours do act on the mind as much as
they tug at the heartstrings. Replete with tales of mental instability,
infidelity, drunken advice, wartime hucksters, heartbreak, and
redemption, the first album by D Charles with his backing band will surely
immediately stand out amongst the shards of gothic Americana that litter our
fair sonic landscape. Edition of 500) 20.00
D CHARLES SPEER some forgotten country LP (soundatone - This LP from
Soundatone records is my first exposure to Mr. Speer and his work. I
always really enjoy encountering albums that come free of preconceived
ideas about the music attached, as is normal when reviewing albums and
artists that are more familiar to me. This is also the first album that I
have reviewed that could fall into the country or bluegrass idioms. Upon
first listen, I was immediately pleased with the varied, yet
consistent material presented on this album. The vinyl I received does the music
justice as the warmer sound of this medium is beautifully matched with
the texture and warmth of the music it contains. The album is a well
balanced mix of instrumental and vocal songs that complement each other
quite effectively. In fact, while listening to the first track, a
joyful banjo driven romp, I was perfectly satisfied with the idea of the
record as an instrumental record. Then when D. Charles Speer unleashes his
dark, personal singing style, listening to the album becomes a doubly
satisfying experience. This album gives the listener a taste of both
well written and developed instrumental compositions as well as some
talented, lyrical songwriting.) 18.00
ENVY a dead sinking story DLP (temporary residence - Once every several
years, a band emerges that is so powerful and overwhelming, you're
left in awe after a single listen. Tokyo, Japan's ENVY is such a band. Ten
years, hundreds of shows, and three LPs after their inception, we're
proud to present their latest effort, 'A Dead Sinking Story.' Picking up
where 'All the Footsteps You Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead'
left off, 'A Dead Sinking Story' is an epic fusion of anger, sadness,
and strength; a sonic journey through incredible songwriting and newly
incorporated electronic soundscapes that give the listener only an inch
or two of breathing room. Both breathtaking and unrelenting, 'A Dead
Sinking Story' clocks in at an epic 62 minutes...this is truly hardcore
reserved for the hardcore.) 18.00
ENVY Compiled Fragments 1997-2003 DLP (temporary residence - This
collection of singles, rare tracks and unreleased gems maps Envy's storied
transformation from pioneering spastic hardcore to masters of exquisite,
triumphant doom. Originally released in 2003 on the group's own Sonzai
Records in Japan, this album has never been available in North
America, and has never been previously released on vinyl. On tour this spring
with Baroness.) 18.00
GLASS CANDY miss broadway 12" (italians do it better - The first batch
of Italians Do It Better vinyl is here! These are all ltd to 1000
copies. This is a KILLER cover version of the Belle Epoque classic "Miss
Broadway". 100% essential baeleric disco bliss.) 12.50
GLORIOR BELLI - Manifesting The Raging Beast LP (southern lord - France
isn't the first country that springs to mind when ruminating over the
black metal genre - Norway maybe, and in more recent years the troubled
USA, but France...? Those in the know are well aware of French BM
superiority - we have Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord and more recently
Monarch doing the do for all things blackened so maybe there is a pedigree
from that land better known for love songs. Now we have Glorior Belli,
who have been snapped up by the ever reliable Southern Lord for their
debut emission and seem to revel in their knowledge of classic black
metal. You see this is metal in the mould of early Mayhem and Darkthrone,
and luckily that's just the sort of metal I want to hear right now -
rasping vocals, pounding hyperactive percussion and riffs straight from
the bowels of hell. Maybe I shouldn't but for some reason when I was
listening to this I was picturing the band from Adult Swim's
Metalocalypse, that's not a bad thing but is probably bringing humour where it's
just not wanted. This record ain't funny - from beginning to end we have
dour emotion over dour emotion with songs typically approaching such
classic BM subjects as Lucifer, self harm and sinister bestial imagery.
So not an album to play to grandma then, but if you're after a fast and
frenetic journey into the blackest world of metal then you can't do
much better than this - it's almost good enough to have me forget the
Norman Conquest... well, almost. Recommended!) 16.00
GRAVES AT SEA documents of grief LP (kreation - FINALLY ON VINYL -
GRAVES AT SEA from Arizona have made a lot of noise in the underground the
past few years. Already considered one of the best Doom bands in
existence the band has yet to issue their debut LP (coming later this year on
a much bigger label)! Documents Of Grief was self-released by the band
back in 2003 and quickly sold out and hasn’t been seen since. The band
followed it up with an EP for the SOUTHERN LORD 7 inch series and then
last years highly praised split album with ASUNDER (released by 20
BUCK SPIN on vinyl). 20 BUCK SPIN loved Documents Of Grief so much that we
convinced the band to let us release it officially in anticipation of
their debut LP and their upcoming May 2006 tour, and for those who
missed out before. This is an essential, er, document of Doom’s present and
future! Colored vinyl) 16.00
GREY DATURAS Owley Claw Hammer LP (emperor jones - An engineer dealing
with frequencies that are knocking over his five-pound Catholic candles
as he's recording strangers should have the good temper to control the
earthquake he didn't anticipate. Melbourne's Grey Daturas camped out
in Austin's hi-fi Infinity Recording for one day and borrowed cabinets
that nearly reached the ceiling, cooking up 34 minutes of disturbing
waves that seemed on the verge of opening the Balcones Fault's limestone
and lava. Lots of drone albums loom in the racks, sure. But if you,
listener, perceive this long-playing record as whatever drone or doom
metal, is, then you, Madame Blahg, are as simple-headed as Bush Jr. doing
lines while watching a hurricane on CNN. You can hear this trio feeling
each other a year ago, as these A and B sides spin in '08 in your living
room: a triad with cleared heads and no preconception, speaking to
each other with demonic waves, while not once looking at the other's eyes
or hands nor saying a word. Not bad, considering they withstood a night
of broken glass with Texas mental-case bands at the club just hours
before.) 18.00
GROWING lateral 12" (social registry - It seems like it's been no time
at all since Growing's previous album, Vision Swim saw a release via
Troubleman Unlimited, but now the guitar/electronics duo return with a 20
minute EP for that similarly consistent outpost of avant-garde
indiedom The Social Registry. A comparison to Black Dice wouldn't be entirely
erroneous but there's something unique about Growing's stroboscopic,
spirographic compositions, propelling the sound palette of the electric
guitar into hitherto uncharted domains. After the heady swirl of opener
'Swell', with its helicopter blade phasing, you're offered relief by
'First Contact' a laid back, jittering duet that's not a million miles
from Christopher Willits' 'folded guitar' stylings, albeit with a
simplified tremolo-style analogue effect rather than laptop-administered
granular synthesis. Offering a more orchestral feel, the choppy string pad
sounds of 'Lateral' encroach upon that sacred Fennesz/Tim Hecker
terrain, only to retreat into the hazy, detuned filtrations of 'After Glow',
which somehow has a warm, somnolent feel to it.) 13.00
GROTESQUE In the Embrace of Evil LP (In the Embrace of Evil is a
compilation album by the Swedish death metal band Grotesque. This is pre AT
THE GATES) 12.50
HOLY GHOST same LP (a389/ deathwish - Holy Ghost surfaced in Cleveland
as a side-project/creative outlet for the Human Furnace of Ringworm
fame. They released a demo tape in 1999 loaded with dark brooding hardcore
in the vein of the Worm but with darker elements a little Neurosis, a
little later Black Flack, you get the picture. Things never got off the
ground since Ringworm made a full-fledged comeback during the same
time this demo was released. Time managed to sweep this under the rug...
until now! So, for the first time in six years the Holy Ghost demo is
available.) 13.50
ION DISSONANCE minus the herd LP (garden of exile records - Armed
with a deathly paced mechanization of angular riffs and breakneck
drumming acrobatics, Ion Dissonance obliterates the listener effortlessly
while tapping into an inner groove.
Adding vocalist Kevin McCaughey to their ranks, Ion Dissoance have
crafted one of the most volatile records of the year, taking their
assaulting sound to a whole new level with grand-canyon style grooves. “Minus
The Herd” was recorded with Zeus at Planet Z Studios producing the most
visceral, neck-snapping yet catching album to come out in years.
Minus The Herd is very technical, and falls under the auspices of
metallic hardcore, mathcore, metalcore, grindcore and deathcore. It's
controlled chaos with frenzied drum fills and breakdowns and guitar riffs
that are sometimes thick and heavy, other times angular and dissonant. The
songs are complex, yet compact, with the 10 songs clocking in at just
over 30 minutes. Ion Dissonance's sound may appeal to fans of groups
like Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Meshuggah and Despised Icon.) 13.00
JAMES BLACKSHAW the cloud of the unknowing LP (tompkins square - When
UK-native James Blackshaw plays his 12-string guitar, something
spiritual takes place. Performing and recording since 2003, his name is
frequently mentioned as one of the foremost modern solo acoustic guitarists.
Now at the age of 25, Blackshaw, an untrained musician born and still
residing in the suburban environs of Greater London, draws as much
inspiration from early religious music, South-Asian folk music and composers
such as Arvo Part, Simeon Ten Holt, Steve Reich and Charlemagne
Palestine as he does from John Fahey, Robbie Basho and the early Takoma
Records roster, constantly breaking boundaries in what could be conceived as
a somewhat limited medium. In his part improvised and part written
songs, Blackshaw makes expert use of Eastern and Western scales, chord
changes reminiscent of European classical music and incredibly intricate
fingerpicking patterns to make a sound that is both challengingly
minimalistic, yet warm and approachable to anybody who might hear it, with a
rare sensitivity that conveys both immense beauty, hope and sadness.)
16.00
LAKME same LP (heart on fire - If you love your hardcore to be filled
with passion, melodies, screams and the energy of punk rock, well this
might interest yourself. Mix bands of Stonehenge Records with bands of
Ebullition Records, and you might get an idea. Brand new album with 7
songs, and a nice booklet full of texts (from the labels and members of
the band), lyrics and explanations. Food for thoughts... (heart on
fire)) 9.50
LADYHAWK shots LP (jagjaguwar - Shots is a night album. It is the sound
of Ladyhawk getting loose -- turning up loud, downing a few more and
howling at the moon. Ladyhawk are in vampire pose, filling their days
waiting, only coming out after dark to stalk the streets ready for blood,
then stumbling home drunk before dawn. Or like ghosts, drifting
through the halls of the darkened house thinking about how they used to live
there. Or sometimes ending up outside, staring into the cold moon for
what seems like hours and seeing nothing - going back inside and seeing
only a mask in the bathroom mirror. This is Ladyhawk's death trip,
lining up a round of shots on the edge of the grave. Ladyhawk's
kiss-of-death evokes the devilish sounds of Goats Head Soup guitars, the
honey-slides and howling of Neil Young in his darkest hours, and the phantoms
that haunted Roky Erickson at the Holiday Inn. Recorded over a period of
two weeks in an abandoned farm house behind the shopping mall in the
band's childhood hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia, Shots is an album
filled with the cold creaking and ghostly echoes of the old house in
the dead of winter. Like a party for the last house standing in a sea of
strip malls and condos, surely near the end of its time.) 16.00
LEMURIA get better LP (asian man - Fresh off a split with The Ergs!,
Buffalo, NY's Lemuria present their debut full-length, bringing twelve
tracks of melodic pop-punk with female vocals, bringing to mind bands
like Discount, Jawbreaker and The Weakerthans.) 13.00
NORTT galgenfrist LP (Noble gatefold vinyl version of this funeral
doomed black metal masterpiece) 16.00
THE OCEAN Precambrian 3xLP ( garden of exile records - colored vinyl,
each of the 3 LPs different: silver/black, red/black, yellow/red, all
180 grams vinyl. Gatefold with amazing conceptual artwork by Martin
Kvamme; die-cut holes on the front and back, UV-spot, metallic print, full
color sleeves and inserts, all on the thickest card board. THE OCEAN's
'Precambrian' is composed of a mini-album (LP 1) with 22 minutes
playing time entitled »Hadean/Archaean«, and a full-length album (LP 2 and 3)
with 62 minutes playing time, entitled »Proterozoic«, both referring
to successive geological eons within the Precambrian. The songs are
divided into 5 subordinate eras, with the song-titles carrying the names of
subordinate geological periods.THE OCEAN's 'Hadean / Archaean' is
brutal, invidious, complex in its arrangements yet simplistic in its
instrumentation, and raw and unpolished in sound, continuing where 'Aeolian'
left off. 'Proterozoic' is the more tempered of the 2 albums; still
erupting frequently and heavily, but at times yielding way to moments of
beauty and sublimity in between. Elaborate in its musical ideas and
multi-layered due to its massive instrumentation, dramatic in its
arrangements and expansive in sound, 'Proterozoic' is an ambitious album of
truly epic proportions.) 27.00
SKELETONWITCH Beyond The Permafrost LP (hyperralist - Ohio's
Skeletonwitch combine the crossover thrash of Municipal Waste with the more
traditional metal sounds of Megadeth and early Metallica on this debut
full-length. Now available on vinyl.) 13.00
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES 1982 demos LP (The first two 1982 demo sessions
(their earliest recordings!) from what was to become one of the leading
bands of Southern California hardcore, this includes 18 tracks, 3 of
which appear here for the first time, all with excellent sound! This
limited pressing of 1000 copies comes with a poster insert with photos,
liner notes, gig posters and more.) 10.00
SWOLLOW THE SUN hope 2xLP (garden of exile records - The most luminous
death/doom-metal act of Finland, Swallow the Sun, got started in the
turn of the millennium when the guitarist Juha Raivio collected a group
of friends around him.
Once again, after touring Finland and other countries, the band closed
itself in September 2006 to an island next to Helsinki to record their
coming album Hope. Atmosphere on the island truly gave change to focus
deeply on the work and of course a nice place to host our guests, says
Juha Raivio. Swallow the Sun had the privilege to have Jonas Renkse
(Katatonia) and Tomi Joutsen (Amorphis) to appear as guest vocal on the
album.
Expect a great atmospheric album, offering much more than your ordinary
doom band. You are lost, all hope is gone!) 18.00
THE TAINT secrets and lies 2xLP (superfi records - Second record for
this Welsh trio, and man, what an impressive pile of large boulders
rolling down on your moon roof. If you like your stoner rock crushing, heavy
and hoary, this is for you, Taint (taint stoner and taint sludge and
taint hardcore neither, son) competing with Spice, Spiritual and Clutch
but adding an artful noise element and an Entombed Viking vocal (free
band name for you, son). Significant that Alex Newport produces, because
there’s that Earache-my-eye punk terror vibe shoving and jostling the
listener here. The smarts have gotta come from the fact that the band
comes up from a bit of an orphaned non-metal Helmety stream roots- and
biz-wise, because the rules of dope-smoked doom are not followed here,
just like grunge or the fecund creative period of the Relapse roster as
it impressed in the mid-‘90s. I suppose that all just means “sludge,”
but this is not boring.) 15.00
WOODEN SHJIPS Wooden Shjips LP (holy mountain - On their eponymous
debut album, Wooden Shjips have pulled off one of the key psych releases of
2007. The band succeed at sounding rooted in the acid-tinged rock
experiments of the '60s and '70s without ever coming across as kitsch or
laboured. There's a near-unobtainable authenticity to the band's sound
that proves their devotion to the cause - these guys aren't just aligning
themselves to some passing fad. The first thing that strikes you is
the tightness of the rhythm section, sounding like a cross between
vintage Can and The Doors on opener 'We Ask You To Ride'. By the time the
frazzled guitar solo drops into this one, you'll be hooked. Establishing a
heavier groove, 'Losin' Time' checks the same boxes, throwing in a
reedy organ part to double the main riff while slapback echo annihilates
the vocal. The spatial mixing is resolutely old-school too, with all the
drums coming out you out of the left speaker on 'Lucy's Ride', another
classy krautrock workout buried in spot-on psych effects and languid
wah-wah guitar explorations. A mightily impressive first album from a
band who are quite rightly on the receiving end of some very favourable
attention right now, heck they've already been collared by Sub Pop for a
7" and it's still early days for these guys. Highly recommended.)

XIU XIU promise LP (absolutly kosher - BACK IN PRINT!!! The beloved
Promise album from Oakland, California gloom-bringing anti-popsters XIU
XIU. Ten tracks of goth-esque release fleshed out with orchestral
passages, strong dynamics, sophisticated, violent crashes and house
music/dancefloor feelings. Includes a cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," some
guest bumming from AARON RUSSEL (THETEETHE) and CHES SMITH (JOHN ZORN,
GOOD FOR COWS), and an overall more depressing mood than anything the
band has attempted prior--including, one would surmise, suicide. Packaged
with explicit new front cover art (nude male) and a truly wonderful
new back cover photo.) 12.00
YELLOW SWANS at all ends LP (weird forest/ load - At All Ends is the
third major record in the Yellow Swans vast body of work. This record is
an assured record of chiming drone and heady pelvic sky fuckery. New
sounds emerge from the Yellow Swans camp that are more hushed, and
whisper with the logic of deep space. Whereas the last record was a laser
beam guided minimal transmission with dark overtones, this new release
injects sonic clouds full of pink oxycontin. Guitar lines sketch out a
melodic vision that stupifies with hypnotic repetition with layer upon
layer of rich and dense guitar chug build into multi-orgasm songscapes
that leave the loins sore and the mind spent. An exhausting journey into
pleasure and single-mindedness. Elements of lush drone stretch the
proceedings in vast strokes. Yellow Swans veer towards krautrock territory
with this new record, and it will go down in the big books as their most
beautiful and vibrant record thus far. Limited to 1000 copies) 18.50

BURNING WITCH Crippled Lucifer DCD (southern lord - ...After the
breakup of the cult doom/death band Thorr's Hammer in 1995, Stephen O'Malley,
Greg Anderson and Jamie Sykes formed Burning Witch. The band then
added G. Stuart Dahlquist and vocalist Edgy 59, rounding out their lineup.
Anderson left the band and moved to Los Angeles to form the band
Goatsnake. In 1996, the band (w/out Anderson) recorded songs with Steve
Albini, which would become the Towers... EP. This collection would actually
not see a formal release on 12" until 1998 on Slap A Ham Records. After
the sessions for these songs, Sykes left the band and was replaced by
B.R.A.D. The sessions that followed the Albini recordings resulted in
the Rift.Canyon.Dreams EP, which would prove to be the final recordings
by the band, as they broke up soon after the disc was completed. It was
released on 12" by Merciless Records. Shortly after disbanding: "
Crippled Lucifer" a compilation CD of the two EPs, was released in 1998 by
the then new label Southern Lord Records. It was the second release of
the label, the first being Thorrs' Hammer. Burning Witch briefly
reformed for their last shows in the fall of 1998 after which Edgy 59 left
the band. O'Malley reunited with Anderson to form Sunn O))), and
Dahlquist joined both in sunn 0))) for their first two albums (The Grimm Robe
Demos øø Void) then briefly joined Anderson in Goatsnake for the "Flower
of Disease" album. This deluxe double cd re-issue of all Burning Witch
recordings will serve as a respectful epitaph for this incredible
band. It compiles both the Towers and Rift Canyon Dreams albums which were
on the the original Crippled Lucifer release PLUS the following out of
print material: "Communion" and "the Bleeder" from: split CD with
Goatsnake (Hydra Head Records 2000) OUT OF PRINT and "Rift Canyon Dreams"
from :split 12" with Asva (Dos Fatales Records 2004) OUT OF PRINT

ever on cd)) 16.00
YELLOW SWANS Psychic Secession CD (load – Beaming down from the sky
like a ray of white-hot light intent on saving us from outselves, the
Yellow Swans come up with their second studio record. Their other record
was ?Bringing The Neon War Home? on narnack Although the band has
countless releases documenting their live aktions, ?Psychic Secession? is a
work of uncomprimising vison, weaving together all sides of this duo?s
20-sided die. Moments of quiet hum but up against crunchy speaker burners
to make this record essential listening. The last few years have seen
the Yellow Swans coat the planet with live dates in the U.S.,
Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Songs on this record were road tested in
front of this planet?s hungry eyes.... you might have heard ?True Union?,
which has been a staple of many of these live sets. This record was
originally released in Austrlia by the Numerical Thief label, and comes to
you on LOAD in a remastered format. The new master will allow you to
hear the whispered hush, disjointed polyrhthymic attack and squealing
how, in a new manner, as the Australian version is a bit noisier.) 13.00

CRIME DESIRE Nadir / Loathesome Ones 7" (life is a rape - With a new LP
just on the horizon, Crime Desire whets the record nerds' collective
palate with "Nadir" b/w the exclusive track "Loathesome Ones." These two
tracks mark a distinctively darker sound for the band, "Nadir" being a
plodding anti-cultural diatribe, while the flip snarls and sludges
along in all its reverbed out glory. You might be reminded of anyone from
Amebix to Samhain to Scratch Acid, but you certainly won't walk away

hit track "Perfect Skin," and is the first installment in a series of 7"

With a triple vocal

tinged crust and breakneck blasts harkening back to the skaterock crossover
bands of the '80s, the Tusk contribute their own take on the full
bore, brutal sound Savannah bands are known for. Produced by Phillip Cope
(Kylesa).) 13.00

This album gives the listener a taste of both
well written and developed instrumental compositions as well as some
talented, lyrical songwriting.) 18.00

left in awe after a single listen. Tokyo, Japan's ENVY is such a band. Ten

proud to present their latest effort, 'A Dead Sinking Story.' Picking up
where 'All the Footsteps You Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead'

(remixed by Randall Dunn (sunn, boris, earth) and available for the first time
ever on cd)) 16.00
The new master will allow you to
hear the whispered hush, disjointed polyrhthymic attack and squealing
how, in a new manner, as the Australian version is a bit noisier.) 13.00

publishing.) 12.00
