INDIE-POP. Icelandic 8-piece HJALTALIN's first album "Sleepdrunk seasons" sounds like they were anything but asleep or drunk when they created it. It is a elegantly constructed richly orchestrated combination of sweet vocals, drums, clarinet, bass, piano, guitar, bassoon and violin. Lazy comparisons can be made with compatriots SIGUR ROS but HJALTALIN are more earthy, less ethereal, and use a lot more English in their lyrics SIGUR ROS are the other-worldly soundtrack to the Northern Lights, whereas HJALTALIN are the soundtrack to a many-charactered fairytale set in an enchanted wood. Hailing from Austin, Texas and Brooklyn, NY respectively, the pair began tinkering back in 2001, laboriously experimenting and completely hellbent on establishing something fresh and unique from deep beneath the Indie canopy. The y recorded "Carved by glaciers" somwhere between their endless tours but it soon was out of print. The music is being executed in full speed, with a handful of earthmoving breakdowns and the production is more Punk than Metal, which gives it a sharper and much more aggressive edge. The vocals are manic and the music chaotic, but somewhere in this ear shattering inferno there is a structure and as all hell breaks loose around them SPLITTER are in full control of every little detail. The tireless and tour-hungry hardcore loyalists in LA’s TERROR, spearheaded by the endless enthusiasm of front man Scott Vogel, have earned quite a reputation since forming at the turn of the millennium. Their melding of no-frills breakneck Hardcore and the fervor of new generation Metal bridges the gap between young and old, and it makes for one hell of a pit no matter what city or stage the band leaves in ruin. Vogel has been a key figure in the scene’s survival, having given up a normal home life to slug it out on the road despite broken limbs, slipped discs and everything else that comes with hosting a TERROR show.
