A STORM OF LIGHT - Forgive us our trespasses CD 13.90 EUR
HARDCORE-METAL. A tell-tale sign of just how widespread NEUROSIS' influence and reach has become, A STORM OF LIGHT emerges as more restrained NEUROSIS, on Neurosis' label. The only thing missing would be a guest appearance from a member of ISIS or Scott Kelly. "Forgive us our trespasses" for all intents and purposes, falls under the metalgaze category. Absent are those dreamy, melodic moments that ISIS and ROSETTA love, but the stark, oftentimes minimal nature of these songs allows for some truly striking moments. "Forgive us our trespasses" may not be as fully realized as it can be, but the foundation and natural heritage of this band suggests there’s still lots of work to be done. (2009/NEUROT)

HARDCORE. A.N.S. from Texas are one of the most killer punk/crossover bands out there. After two albums and a dozen or so splits and EP's, they've produced their most focused (and best) material to date on "Pressure cracks", the 3rd album from this prolific Hardcore band. The heaviest influences are common, but maybe A.N.S. grab from less obvious albums, combining here a killer blend of the "professional Hardcore" of "Feel the darkness" era POISON IDEA, the drugged out heavy Metal / Classic Rock influenced Punk of "My war" and beyond BLACK FLAG, plus the high energy crossover Thrash of "Lights, Camera, Revolution" era SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. DOOM-CORE. Vinyl postponed to 06.10.2009. Rage and gloom have come to roost in DOOMRIDERS' second proper full-length album "Darkness come alive". Recorded and engineered at Godcity Studios by Kurt Ballou, "Darkness come alive" shows a more monstrous DOOMRIDERS emerging from the depths. Songs like "Jealous God" and "Heavy Lies The Crown" carry a precision and infectious quality that is rare to experience, while the title-esque track "Come Alive" is a stunning example of their new found muscle. The opening seconds of the aforementioned sets an electrifying backdrop before erupting into one of the most hook laden ebb and flows of recent memory. Effortlessly throughout the album they continue this bombardment, with rhythm section JR Conners (Cave In) and Jebb Riley (Disappearer) as the hurricane force wind at the back of Chris Pupecki's (Cast Iron Hike) riffs and Nate Newton's (Converge) gritty duel guitar/vocal attack. CRUSTCORE. Polish millenium Crust with roots into TRAGEDY and probably also WOLFBRIGADE. This band from Olsztyn (Poland) has been around for many years, released a demo CD-R a few years ago, but during all this time they had several changes giong on. Now the line up is stable and they built their own sound - powerful, heavy and driving Hardcore-Punk with two guitars and mixed vocals leaded by a strong and angry female voice. You can compare their sound to the before mentioned but you can still get the strong Polish Punk influence here, so it's not just another clone neo-Crust band.

HARDCORE. After over a decade, the band has had seven releases on labels varying from Blackout Records to I Scream Records, have toured the US and Europe, taken hiatus and have now returned with a vengeance. In 2008, members of the Reaper Records family heard some of the new demo tracks and were enthusiastic to support a new album. By the end of the year, both parties met while a plan was hammered out to release the 15 track album the following year. Reaper Records was an obvious fit with their feet planted firmly in Hardcore roots and a keen eye for its future. Reaper’s well-known commitment to Hardcore and its consistent support for its bands made MAXIMUM PENALTY’s decision an easy one. The Reaper roster is rich and diverse with a broad spectrum of bands and Reaper fans are both discerning and open-minded. The first order of business was to complete an East Coast tour with long time Reaper allies and friends TERROR. After the tour, the album was ready to be mastered and the album artwork finalized. October 2009 will bring the fruits of a seed first planted in 1986 and since then been cultivated by many different hands. It’s been a long road and the stories of both MAXIMUM PENALTY and this new LP have been fraught with false starts and disappointments. Their "Touch me I'm sick" defined a generation of disenchanted middle-class malcontents bored stiff by the predictable mire that rock & roll had become. PUNK-ROCK.PSYCHED TO DIE practically qualify as a New Jersey punk all-star band, being composed of ex-members of The ERGS, FOR SCIENCE, HUNCHBACK and a bunch more. Starting off as a straightforward DC-meets early Touch And Go hardcore band with lyrics about as uplifting as the name would suggest, PSYCHED TO DIE's newer material slows it down just a bit and explores the area where punk and early hardcore intersect, kind of a cross between DANGERHOUSE and early Orange County hardcore. This is fast, dirty, bleak and negative, but still strangely catchy. Companion piece to the recently released "Year one" CD (they were supposed to be released at the same time). QUIETING SYRUP - Songs about a sick boy CD 10.90 EUR
INDIE. Stephen Howard has, in recent years, cut his teeth as a team player, offering up his considerable talents playing bass with Indie darlings DENALI and Capitol Records "droppies" AMBULETTE, and playing baritone guitar as a member of the self-proclaimed slowest band in Chicago, PINEBENDER. So, with the completion of "Songs about a sick boy", Howard steps out of the shadows with a solo record that is as harrowing as it is beautiful. A total of 12 songs written over a period of 12 years, it focuses almost exclusively on his health battles and subsequent emotional fallout following the ebb-and-flow cycles of affection, addiction and ailment. RAYDIOS, THE - Now LP 11.50 EUR
PUNK. For those not in the know, the Raydios is Fink from the legendary TEENGENERATE and Firestarter's current band. This is their 2nd album, coming about 10 years (!) after their demo LP on Screaming Apple. The CD version of "Now" was released by Japan's Mangrove Records last year, and is just now seeing the light of day on vinyl. It's been remastered for vinyl and re-mixed by Fink himself, and sounds GREAT! Musically this is no frills, crunchy, mid tempo Rock & Roll. HARDCORE-METAL. A tell-tale sign of just how widespread NEUROSIS' influence and reach has become, A STORM OF LIGHT emerges as more restrained NEUROSIS, on Neurosis' label. The only thing missing would be a guest appearance from a member of ISIS or Scott Kelly. "Forgive us our trespasses" for all intents and purposes, falls under the metalgaze category. Absent are those dreamy, melodic moments that ISIS and ROSETTA love, but the stark, oftentimes minimal nature of these songs allows for some truly striking moments. "Forgive us our trespasses" may not be as fully realized as it can be, but the foundation and natural heritage of this band suggests there’s still lots of work to be done. (2009/NEUROT)
