BEHEMOTH - The apostasy LP 15.90 EUR
DEATH-METAL. The Polish Metal kings offering, "The Apostasy", which is destined to become both the defining release of the band's career and one of the most revered and dynamic offerings the genre has seen in years. BEHEMOTH take their influences further, while keeping their distorted assault intact. Unrelenting distortion and illustration of these aforementioned gods is what gives a plausible identity to each of these songs. The tone of the album is eerie, but adding more leads and heavier riffs wouldn't be depleting any of the sentimental aspects of this album. HARDCORE-PUNK. Is it Punk? Hardcore? Garage? Make up your own mind about CLOAK/DAGGER’s latest full-length, "Lost art". Colin Barth’s winding guitars juggle melody, punch and vitriol on par with the AVENGERS, JOHN 'Speedo' REIS, MISSION OF BURMA and GREG GINN. Play it loud on tracks such as “Deathbed rebels” that push the punk envelope a bit further with frenzied, circle-pit fodder reminiscent of the CIRCLE JERKS and BIG BOYS. Underneath, snaking rolls of bass drive the proceedings with the flawless percussive thrust of the RAMONES, HOT SNAKES and bygone Boston hardcore heroes F.U.s, JERRY'S KIDS. Over this Jason Mazzola distinguishes the band with a full, arching tenor that’s more bellow than scream. CRUST-HARDCORE. DETRITUS where from Antwerpen from a time when Belgium was a capital in the '90s European DIY Punk and Crust scene. Nine attacks of pure mid '90s Crustcore that comes in it's raw and angered nature with the filthy grinding Metal guitar chords and slashing cymbals and thundering drums going steady forward and forward. Two female vocalists vomit their complains and disgust in a dual treatment. This 9 tracks are a premortal recording put down in 2005 before "Saar", singer of DETRITUS, died in 2006 and hence the band never released anything, this release might be a memorial and a document and in the age of sterile "Neo-Crust" it's about time to bring this back on the map I guess and they fill the gap quite well between early UNHINGED and DISAFFECT... for name dropping purpose if you can't handle. HARDCORE-PUNK. EASPA MEASA from Ireland draw influences from great Irish bands like JOBBYCRUST and The DAGDA in some parts and also adds some BALLAST to it all. Quite a lot of tempo changes ranging from fast and pissed of to more tribal stuff, with dual fe/male vocals. SILENCE from Poland are hard hitting Crustcore somewhat similar to a band like FALL OF EFRAFA, with the same style of varying between faster, harder, and heavier stuff. For the most part it is medium paced, that alternates between fast and slow - conjuring up many a mood, atmosphere and feeling. Mettalic riffage is the order of the day, big rhythmic bass licks and guttural vox and industrial strength drumming pounding away. From the home of modern D-Beat/Crust, that is Portland, HELLSHOCK have been around for a few years. In the time they have perfected an already brutal sound and ooze so much energy. LITTLE GOLD - On the knife LP 11.50 EUR
COUNTRY/ROCK. Christian DeRoeck spent most of the past decade writing, touring & recording with the Brooklyn Indie/Punk band MENEGUAR. In late 2006, He and bandmate Jeremy Earl decided to combine their bedroom recordings and release them together, as WOODS. They recorded two albums together and toured the US and Europe. In early 2008, for several reasons, Christian left both bands. He spent the summer of 2008 working as a carpenter in eastern Long Island. Inhabiting a tiny basement room, he began working on the songs that shape "On the knife". In the fall he moved back to Brooklyn and teamed up with his old friend, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Edrich (Chain and the Gang), and LITTLE GOLD was born. Recorded to tape at Emandee Studio in Brooklyn, "On the knife" is a deeply personal take on love and loss, and was very much shaped by Christian’s departure from his previous bands. Like his earlier work with WOODS, the songwriting is earnest, and of course there are a few indulgent headphone tracks as well. Now joined by stand-up drummer Patty Conway, LITTLE GOLD has begun to incorporate more improvisational and psychedelic sounds into their mellow, Country-Rock oeuvre, and in the process are becoming a notable live act around NYC. NOISE-CORE. These days, MELT BANANA performs some of their shows under the name MELT-BANANA LITE, and this album is a live recording of the new configuration. MELT-BANANA LITE is not the usual MELT BANANA: there are drums and vocals, but no guitars - instead samplers and synth. This CD is an instrumental soundtrack to a book called "Finch" by science fiction/fantasy/horror author Jeff Vandermeer, with each song attempting to recreate a scene or mood from the book. HARDCORE-PUNK. So this is what happens when you lock Tony (MUNICIPAL WASTE) and Sam, Richard, and Alex (NEW MEXICAN DISASTER SQUAD) in a cement mixer. NO FRIENDS seethes and boils with the same unbridled fury that defined mid-'80s Hardcore while also drawing strongly on the melodic elements pioneered by DAG NASTY and DESCENDENTS. OUTBREAK - Same LPcol 9.50 EUR
HARDCORE. Emerging out of the quiet, peaceful state of Maine in 2002, OUTBREAK has proven to be anything but the generalizations made about the state in which they began. As simply put by Alternative Press, it’s “fast, furious, and absolutely unrelenting.” Playing stripped down Hardcore/Punk in its purest form, OUTBREAK has developed a global following through international touring, landing on five of seven continents to date. Among the headlining tours, the band has given themselves no limitations, supporting old-school Hardcore bands like AGNOSTIC FRONT, modern Hardcore bands like COMEBACK KID, Metalcore bands like MISERY SIGNALS, and even appearances at mainstream festivals with the likes of RISE AGAINST and TAKING BACK SUNDAY. But it certainly hasn’t been an easy ride; vans have been crashed, financial disasters have come full swing, and members have come and gone through it all. In 2009, it’s a surprise in itself that OUTBREAK still exists. While only the band’s second full-length effort to date, among OUTBREAK’s discography is several other splits, EPs, and singles, notably a split with ONLY CRIME and two releases via Hardcore/Punk mainstay Bridge 9 Records. For the new album, OUTBREAK has followed suit with several high profile acts, and has opted to self-release their new album through vocalist Ryan O’Connor’s ever-growing Think Fast! Records. Adding to the dimension is new guitarist Billy Bean (NO TRIGGER) who also shares vocal duties with O’Connor, a first since OUTBREAK’s inception. OUTBREAK’s self titled debut is a direct statement. PORTRAITS OF PAST - Cypress dust witch MCD 7.50 EUR
Hardcore. PORTRAITS OF PAST formed around 1994 in the San Francisco Bay Area and parted ways at the end of 1995. During their short-lived career, the band released a split 7", several tracks on various compilations and most notably a self-titled LP that has been commonly cited as one of the most influential Post-Hardcore albums. In August of 2008, PORTRAITS OF PAST resurfaced and performed five shows ? two in San Francisco/Oakland and three in New York City. Fans traveled from all over the country and overseas to celebrate the band's reunion. In 2009, the band had several more performances including the Burning Fight book release festival in California, Indianapolis' Dude Fest and a tour in Japan. Founded in early 2003, as a musical collaboration between musicians from both America and Europe, WISDOM IN CHAINS have put their mark on the American & European Hardcore, Punk and Oi! scene. Maarten, a guitar player for the band DAREDEVIL (Holland) contacted Mad Joe & Richie, who at the time were both in KRUTCH with the idea to start an old- school band, with heavy Punk and Oi! influences. The three of them met while KRUTCH was on tour in Europe and not much later Maarten flew to the USA to record their self entitled debut, which was released on Gangstyle Records. Originally the band only played one show, due to the distance between its members, and eventually Maarten suggested that Richie & Mad Joe would seek new local members to keep the band going. They recruited local guitar hero Tony Meltdown who basically shreds on the guitar. After that Shannon Sparky was brought in on drums, who also played with Richie and Mad Joe in Out To Win. The search went on to find a bass player who could jam with these cats. The very obvious and only guy for the job was local drunk and trouble maker Big Show Greg. The new line-up was finally complete and it was time to hit the road and take their killer Street-Hardcore/Punk to the masses. WISDOM INC CHAINS have outdone themselves with this new record and "Everything You Know" is an album full of surprises. COUNTRY/ROCK. Christian DeRoeck spent most of the past decade writing, touring & recording with the Brooklyn Indie/Punk band MENEGUAR. In late 2006, He and bandmate Jeremy Earl decided to combine their bedroom recordings and release them together, as WOODS. They recorded two albums together and toured the US and Europe. In early 2008, for several reasons, Christian left both bands. He spent the summer of 2008 working as a carpenter in eastern Long Island. Inhabiting a tiny basement room, he began working on the songs that shape "On the knife". In the fall he moved back to Brooklyn and teamed up with his old friend, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Edrich (Chain and the Gang), and LITTLE GOLD was born. Recorded to tape at Emandee Studio in Brooklyn, "On the knife" is a deeply personal take on love and loss, and was very much shaped by Christian’s departure from his previous bands. Like his earlier work with WOODS, the songwriting is earnest, and of course there are a few indulgent headphone tracks as well. Now joined by stand-up drummer Patty Conway, LITTLE GOLD has begun to incorporate more improvisational and psychedelic sounds into their mellow, Country-Rock oeuvre, and in the process are becoming a notable live act around NYC. HARDCORE. Emerging out of the quiet, peaceful state of Maine in 2002, OUTBREAK has proven to be anything but the generalizations made about the state in which they began. As simply put by Alternative Press, it’s “fast, furious, and absolutely unrelenting.” Playing stripped down Hardcore/Punk in its purest form, OUTBREAK has developed a global following through international touring, landing on five of seven continents to date. Among the headlining tours, the band has given themselves no limitations, supporting old-school Hardcore bands like AGNOSTIC FRONT, modern Hardcore bands like COMEBACK KID, Metalcore bands like MISERY SIGNALS, and even appearances at mainstream festivals with the likes of RISE AGAINST and TAKING BACK SUNDAY. But it certainly hasn’t been an easy ride; vans have been crashed, financial disasters have come full swing, and members have come and gone through it all. In 2009, it’s a surprise in itself that OUTBREAK still exists. While only the band’s second full-length effort to date, among OUTBREAK’s discography is several other splits, EPs, and singles, notably a split with ONLY CRIME and two releases via Hardcore/Punk mainstay Bridge 9 Records. For the new album, OUTBREAK has followed suit with several high profile acts, and has opted to self-release their new album through vocalist Ryan O’Connor’s ever-growing Think Fast! Records. Hardcore. PORTRAITS OF PAST formed around 1994 in the San Francisco Bay Area and parted ways at the end of 1995. During their short-lived career, the band released a split 7", several tracks on various compilations and most notably a self-titled LP that has been commonly cited as one of the most influential Post-Hardcore albums. In August of 2008, PORTRAITS OF PAST resurfaced and performed five shows ? two in San Francisco/Oakland and three in New York City. Fans traveled from all over the country and overseas to celebrate the band's reunion. In 2009, the band had several more performances including the Burning Fight book release festival in California, Indianapolis' Dude Fest and a tour in Japan. Founded in early 2003, as a musical collaboration between musicians from both America and Europe, WISDOM IN CHAINS have put their mark on the American & European Hardcore, Punk and Oi! scene. Maarten, a guitar player for the band DAREDEVIL (Holland) contacted Mad Joe & Richie, who at the time were both in KRUTCH with the idea to start an old- school band, with heavy Punk and Oi! influences. The three of them met while KRUTCH was on tour in Europe and not much later Maarten flew to the USA to record their self entitled debut, which was released on Gangstyle Records. Originally the band only played one show, due to the distance between its members, and eventually Maarten suggested that Richie & Mad Joe would seek new local members to keep the band going. They recruited local guitar hero Tony Meltdown who basically shreds on the guitar. After that Shannon Sparky was brought in on drums, who also played with Richie and Mad Joe in Out To Win. The search went on to find a bass player who could jam with these cats. The very obvious and only guy for the job was local drunk and trouble maker Big Show Greg. The new line-up was finally complete and it was time to hit the road and take their killer Street-Hardcore/Punk to the masses. WISDOM INC CHAINS have outdone themselves with this new record and "Everything You Know" is an album full of surprises.
