7“

ACID REFLUX ep 7“ (no way out - Albany, NY's Acid Reflux rip through
eight songs in eight minutes of hardcore punk that sounds like it's
straight out of the early '80s Midwest scene, but sing about goofy topics
and don't expect anyone to take them seriously.) 5.00

AMBITIONS No Limits 7" (surprise attack - These four tracks from
Connecticut's Ambitions were originally recorded for their demo in 2005 and
have been recently been remastered and released on vinyl. Ambitions
feature three core members of With Honor and bring a melodic sound akin to
that of Ignite, H2O and Dag Nasty.) 5.00

BRAINDEAD s/t 7" (brain dead records - Braindead are a fresh new face
in the Philly hardcore scene, playing fast, late-'80s influenced
hardcore with a modern touch, with plenty of speed and mosh parts, taking cues
from bands like Count Me Out and Outbreak.) 4.50

CHRISTIAN CLUB Final Confession 7" (sorry state - San Diego's Christian
Club play fast, tight hardcore like you've come to expect from Sorry
State Records. These guys are separated from the pack by two
throat-shredding vocalists, great production and vehemently anti-Christian lyrics.
Recommended for fans of early Dr. Know, Strung Up and Direct Control.)
4.50

THE DRAFT Devil In The Shade 7" (no idea - These two songs capture The
Draft (3/4 of Hot Water Music) in 2005. The track "Devil In The Shade"
features guest guitar work from Brian Baker of Minor Threat, Dag Nasty
and Bad Religion.) 4.50

GROUND UNICORN HORN s/t 7" (three on g - Justin Pearson (The Locust,
Some Girls, Swing Kids, Struggle, Head Wound City) is at it again, this
time teaming up with Chuck Rowell (Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower,
Some Girls) and a few others to bring two songs of frantic, spazzed out
music that takes from both The Locust and The Plot and adds its own spin
but with the familiar San Diego attitude.) 4.50

JUMP OFF A BUILDING Bird Watching In New Zealand 7" (lengua armada -
"Bird Watching In New Zealand" is the debut 7" from San Francisco punks
Jump Off A Building. These six tracks pay homage to hardcore and punk
rock from the early '80s, taking influence from early Los Angeles
skate-core and bands like the Zero Boys.) 4.50

LIMP WRIST want us dead 7“ (lengua armada - Limp Wrist are back with
four songs of gay-positive hardcore punk. The songs are exactly what can
be expected from the guys: a dose of fast, raging punk rock with a
queer edge.) 4.50

LIGHTEN UP I'd Rather Be Snoring 7" (braindrain - Philadelphia's
Lighten Up play fast, upbeat youth crew styled hardcore but with their
priorities set on having fun and enjoying time spent in the scene, bringing
to mind bands like Right On and Andrenalin OD.) 4.50

MODERN LIFE IS WAR s/t 7" (lifeline - Like some natural disaster, this
Midwest hardcore attack pummels on without respite. Their brand of epic
and anthemic hardcore storms through on this teaser of a record. Here's
your chance to find out what ignited the spark on the whirlwind of hype
surrounding this band. Their debut album drops in summer 2003 on Martyr
Records.) 4.50

SOUL CONTROL same 7“ (rivalry - Rising out of Providence, Rhode Island,
Soul Control is one of hardcore's newest and most promising bands.
Playing heavy, driving, rhythmic hardcore influenced by Bad Brains, Burn,
Bane, 108, Strife, and Quicksand, this band is a reflection of a time
when hardcore had much more compassion, awareness, and accountability.
This four song EP is just a small dose of much more to come!) 5.00

TERMINAL STATE sick 7" (deranged - These three tracks continue where
Toronto's Terminal State left off on their "Your Rules" LP, with more
snotty early '80s styled hardcore punk, not unlike that of Career Suicide
and Government Warning.) 5.00

10“

MURDER BY DEATH Who Will Survive And 10" (tentshow records – we got
some copies back in GOLD VINYL. Bloomington, Indiana's Murder By Death is
part horror movie climax, part western barroom brawl, and a dash of
wintery and ambling layers reminiscent of the Cure. Their sophomore album,
"Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them", is being described in
hushed tones as one of the most innovative and well executed records of
the year. - a great DOUBLE 10", limited edt. golden vinyl) 18.50

MURDER BY DEATH in bocca al lupo 2x10" (tent show records - Murder By
Death's third full-length release In Bocca Al Lupo is definitely the
band's best to date. They have traded in amazing instrumentals for amazing
narrative lyrics and tighter songs. The Death's current sound is based
around the cello playing of the only female in this foursome, Sarah
Balliet. This wasn't always the case though, as they used to have another
member who played keyboard. Balliet has taken over the keys and
continued her cello playing, which has affected the band's sound, both
recorded and live. The always prominent cello adds to the haunting sound of
Murder By Death, but the lack of a steady keyboard player forces Balliet
to choose which instrument to play. This decision takes away from the
sonic possibilities that Murder By Death used to be able to accomplish,
which I like. Murder By Death went into the studio, probably with this
thought; thinking of writing songs that would be possible to pull off
live and still be able to be comparable to older tunes.
The cover looks amazing - when you open up the jackets it folds out to
be 7 feet long. The whole pressing is limited to 1000 copies only – we
got gold/red vinyl.) 25.00

LP

ALEX DELIVERY - Star Destroyer LP(jagjaguwar - Alex Delivery are a
Brooklyn-based quintet, who for this hugely impressive debut album string
together some seriously inventive krautrock-themed compositions from a
scrapyard’s worth of bizarre electronic sources, in addition to more
conventional instruments like guitars, organs and drums. The album starts
with an almighty dirge: ‘Komad’ is a magnificent, sprawling piece of
euphoric electronic weirdness. Its primitive, screeching loops bringing
to mind both the strangeness of early Black Dice and the experimental
pop sensibilities of Animal Collective. Over the course of ‘Komad’’s ten
minutes the band never cease to surprise you with all kinds of
improbable musical twists and turns, and that remains the case throughout the
album: there really isn’t a dull moment here. ‘Rainbow’ is a kind of
electroacoustic powerballad featuring some softly sung melodies and
brittle insectoid digital crackling, ‘Scotty’ is an outrageous fairground
waltz, drenched in inappropriate eruptions of noise, while ‘Milan’, the
album’s centre piece, is one of the most rampantly creative pieces of
electronically-enhanced psychedelics you could hope to come across. It
begins with vocals swathed in Fennesz-style symphonic digital drones only
to turn into an incredible Moroder-meets-Neu! piece of propulsive
psych-rock. A debut of startling originality and accomplishment, Star
Destroyer is pretty darn essential listening. Highly recommended.) 16.00

BILL CALLAHAN - Woke On A Whaleheart LP(drag city - Now available on
vinyl! So it's finally happened, the man we used to know as Smog or
(smog) has ditched the moniker and come up with a full length in honour of
it. The big question is, was it worth it? Is the new material really
worthy of changing the name, changing the concept? Well the music has
certainly changed - we have always been Smog lovers here at Boomkat HQ,
Callahan has managed to keep us tranfixed with pretty much every release,
and although his vocals are still here in full force, it all sounds
rather different. The tempered lo-fi Smog, which pitched Callahan next to
his label-mates Pavement, is all but gone, making room for large
high-budget productions (maybe an idea he picked up from his lady Joanna
Newsom?) and the melancholic downtempo dirges have been replaced by
foot-tappin', feel-good anthems. Could it be then that our man has finally
found happiness, could it be that Callahan is finally content, settling
down with one of the music scene's most desirable characters? Well I
think he very well could be, there's a new-found swagger to 'Woke on a
Whaleheart' - I mean take a closer listen to 'Diamond Heart', although
Callahan's cynical humour in there somewhere buried under layers of
simmering euphoria, it's not the same as it used to be. It seems quite brave
for an artist this established to shake things up this deep into his
career, but it's a move I welcome with open arms. Callahan is promising
bright things from this album, and long may he continue to reinvent
himself - he is without question one of the scene's most gifted, engrossing
characters. "Woke On A Whaelheart" is a hazy wilderbeast of an album to
be best enjoyed in the sunshine, get down and sing along - you know
Bill would be proud. Highly Recommended.) 15.00

BLOC PARTY - A Weekend In The City LP (bloc party - Having scored
themselves NME’s coveted Album Of The Year Award for their debut, Silent
Alarm, Bloc Party now find themselves at that most difficult of junctures:
the cusp of releasing a follow-up. A Weekend In The City is the band’s
shot at a quasi-concept album; a set of songs preoccupied with the
everyday machinations of metropolitan life and the weight of modern times
in general (check the references to dismal escapism via sudoku). “East
London is a vampire / it sucks the joy right out of me” intones Kele
Okereke, condensing the sense of amorphous ennui that hangs over the
entire album – lyrically at least. The music here is every bit the taut,
high-energy follow-up you’d hope for, with just enough tweaking and
development to make it sound like an advancement in the band’s sound. This is
demonstrated by the electronically-enhanced chicanery of ‘Hunting For
Witches’, a song that sounds like it might be a rewired version of
something from the band’s first album. In fact, you might even say that one
of the principal influences on this record is actually the Silent Alarm
Remixed package. It’s certainly good to see Bloc Party moving beyond
the constraints of the choppy telecaster jerk-outs of old. The string
plucks and xylophone verse accompaniment in ‘Waiting For The 7.18’ set
against the doubled-up space echo guitar solo sees Bloc Party
incorporating new sound sources into that familiar jagged guitar assault, a theme
which is continued with ‘On’, a kind of bulked-up string-heavy ballad,
given gravitas by a typically propulsive Matt Tong beat. It’s lead
single, ‘The Prayer’ that steals the show, however. It’s the song that most
succinctly encapsulates the sort of direction the band should be headed
in. Loaded with intrusive electronics and discordant guitar
histrionics, it nevertheless doesn’t scrimp on anthemic choruses. A more than
worthy successor to their debut.) 18.00

BOLT THROWER for victory LP (earache - any words?! you know the deal -
their best album) 14.50

CALIFORNIA LOVE reaping the whirlwind LP (youth attack - Oakland's
California Love boast two members of Look Back And Laugh and follow up
their debut effort with another ten tracks of destructive grinding
powerviolence with lightning fast riffs and howled vocals all played at
breakneck speed. Now available on vinyl.) 14.50

CONVERGE / AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED split LP (relapse - Vicious grindcore
behemoths Agoraphobic Nosebleed detonate 9 Molotov cocktails sure to
light a fire under caffeine-addled velocity junkies the world over. Akin
to being dissected in a glass tornado, ANb is auditory warfare of the
most elevated order. Take cover or be destroyed. A bludgeoning blend of
hardcore hostility and metallic malice, the Boston kill team Converge
hammer home six feverish classics of lawless intensity. limited colored
vinyl) 16.00

DAN SARTAIN join dan sartain LP (swami/ one little indian - Hear Dan
Sartain vibrate with a sound bigger than all outdoors. Feverish,
locomotive rock n roll propelled by rolling thunder drums and Dan's warbling,
romantified voice. The Man-boy strikes back! “Dan Sartain is smoother
than buckskin. Dan Sartain is funkier than ten cans of razor bump
solution. Dan Sartain is mellower that Mister A’s Cordon Bleu. Dan Sartain is
as righteous as Webster’s definition of truth. Dan Sartain is a man of
many moods and many grooves, but more important…Dan Sartain is the
‘Ivory Godfather’ and we needed one for so very long.” John Reis/ RFTC –
limited version w/ poster) 18.00

DINOSAUR JR beyond LP + 7" (pias records - Oh boy, how awesome is this?
After tentatively reuniting for a string of live performances back in
2005, the estranged pairing of J. Mascis and Lou Barlow have finally
gone beyond the comfort zone of greatest hits shows to do the decent
thing: write and record a brand new album together. No beating around the
bush – this is precisely the album the Dinosaur Jr. faithful have been
hoping for. From the opening chords of ‘Almost Ready’ memories of the
excitement caused by You’re Living All Over Me and Bug come flooding back.
Mascis’ unmistakeable lead guitar is as raw and untameable as ever, his
ear for melody just as sharp. Tracks like ‘Pick Me Up’ and the single,
‘Been There All The Time’ manage to simultaneously reference the bands
hardcore-infused roots and Mascis’ Jerry Garcia-via-Neil Young soloing
style. It’s not entirely as if Barlow and Mascis have restarted where
they left off 15 years ago, there’s been a fair few highlights in the
Dinosaur Jr back-catalogue since then, and ‘We’re Not Alone’ recalls the
impeccable pop credentials of the (sans-Barlow) Without A Sound album,
whilst ‘I Got Lost’ is a slow jam of epic proportions recalling the
more orchestrated approach of Where You Been? There are just two
Barlow-penned songs here (which he also sings), the Elliott Smith-meets-Black
Sabbath magnificence of ‘Back To Your Heart’ and the fuzz-soaked
sludgecore joint, ‘Lightning Bulb’. It’s always a pleasure to hear new material
from Lou Barlow, whether it be as a solo artist or part of Sebadoh, but
having Mascis’ devastating wall-of-guitars behind him makes for
something utterly magical. You certainly don’t have to be an old-school
Dinosaur Jr. fan to appreciate how sensational an album this is. Beyond has
to be one of the rock events of the year in anyone’s book.) 18.50

EARTHLESS sonic prayer LP (gravity records - Earthless are a band from
San Diego, CA with Mario R. drummer of Clikatat Ikatowi and Hot Snakes,
and Mike E. on bass from Electric Nazarene, and Isaih M. a touring
member of Nebula on guitar. They play 20-30 minute, loud, epic songs.
Producing a bombastic stew of druggie bass drone, pulsating rhythmic sex
beats, and brain piercing acid flashback guitar leads. No two Earthless
shows are ever the same, so the four song LP was recorded live in the
studio to capture the live dynamic that they are most suited for.
Earthless draw influences from bands such as The Groundhogs, Amon Duul2, Black
Sabbath, Hawkwind and Jimi Hendrix's more freaked out instrumentals.
They have played with acts such as High on Fire, Acid Mothers Temple,
Nebula, Om, Mountain, Comets on Fire) 12.50

ERIC BACHMANN –to the races- LP (foreign leisure records - Stepping out
from under the cover of a band name, To The Races marks Bachmann's
proper eponymous debut, and the music echoes the change to a more direct,
spartan approach. Self-recorded in a hotel in the Outer Banks town of
Buxton, NC, these songs reveal an expert songwriter further honing his
craft after more than a dozen releases. Bachmann's warm vocals and
deceptively simple arrangements keep the song's quiet elegance ardent and
complete, only occasionally augmented by Miranda Brown's angelic harmonies
or Tom Hagerman's (Devotchka) haunting violin. From the gently urgent
opening notes of "Man O' War" to the quiet guitar strum and soothing
piano line of "Little Bird," To The Races tells familiar but rarely as
well- articulated stories of self-imposed or unintentional isolation and
the common search for--or escape from--some kind of sanctuary. Limited
to 1000 handnumbered copies.) 16.50

FLOOR s/t LP (no idea - After ten years, this Florida based group
finally unleashed their first full album. Thirteen droning, Sabbath inspired
dirges with a definite southern twist.) 12.00

FUDGE TUNNEL "Creep Diets" LP (earache - Fudge Tunnel have to be
ranked among Metal's greats. A monumental slab of molten feedback,
genetically cloned riffs, and earth-moving bass licks, there's nothing else like
it in rock 'n' roll -- unfortunately, not even subsequent releases
stack up track for track.) 9.00

GODFLESH Crush My Soul 12" (earache – 3songs – 36 minutes. Godflesh)
8.00

GODFLESH messiah 2xLP (relapse - Originally recorded in 1994, and
released on Godflesh mastermind Justin Broadrick's ( now JESU ) Avalanche
Recordings, the highly sought-after Godflesh EP Messiah was once
available only via the official Godflesh website. Containing four lost songs
and ambient remixes of those same songs, Messiah is a dark, chilling
glimpse inside the mind of one of heavy music's most revered martyrs.
Messiah faultlessly captures the utter strength and forward-thinking vision
of Godflesh – ltd to 1000 copies. ) 19.00

GO IT ALONE histories LP (rivalry - "Histories" is the second
full-length release from Vancouver's own Go It Alone. As a follow up to "The
Only Blood Between Us," this 11 track album combines GIA's brand of
melodic hardcore (Battery, Chain Of Strength, Count Me Out, Dag Nasty) with a
darker, heavier sound a la Damnation A.D. As usual, the album is full
of thought-provoking, brutally honest, introspective lyrics that hit
strikingly close to home, pulling at the strings of self-doubt.) 12.50

GRAND MAGUS monument LP (rise above - There´s a soulful bluesy-ness
that runs right through the core of this album, giving it a very warm
sound that only comes from awesome bands and you simply cannot fake that.
One of the best things about Grand Magus is guitarist/vocalist JB (also
of Spiritual Beggars fame). Not only is he in posession of one of rocks
greatest singing voices since John Garcia, but the bastard also has the
ourtight nerve to be a lead guitarist of such skill and dexterity as to
make most other axemen look like a bunch of slouches in comparison.
Refreshingly, his shit hot solos aren´t merely muso-jizz festivals, but
impressive displays of musicianship that sound like the song would be
naked without them, always full of soul and passion, and never too showy
for the sake of it. If this doesn´t turn up in any ´best of´ lists in
the new year, then it´s only because the list maker hasn´t heard it. Put
simply, Monument is an outstanding album from a criminally underrated
band/ Doom-Alive) 19.00

THE GRIEF ETERNAL on blackened wings 12" (rise above - Ever imagined
Winter playing at half the speed, then digesting a bucketful of Elephant
tranquilisers? Listening to this will have the desired effect!
Originally intended for an EP release on Rise Above back in 1991, this was
scrapped in favour of waiting for an album that never came. The band
(brainchild of Jus Oborn) changed their name to Eternal, who eventually
evolved into the band we now know as Electric Wizard! This is an extreme cult
item for die hards & collectors alike. 1,000 pressed - 500 black/500
silver/grey. Doom Or Be Doomed) 16.00

GUARANTEED KATCH in a sumptuous brown gravy:: LP (equation - 333 copies
:: sumptuous brown vinyl :: inserts - High-quality brown vinyl 12" LP
featuring some beautiful artwork. This LP is loaded with an unforgetable
roster of action-packed songs, whirling the listener into a state of
inexplicable dementia and psychiatric ineptitude. Described as
"jazz-core", "powdered-wig punk" or "experimental noise-rock", this recording
provides a host of musically disorienting songs from who-knows-where
through a combination of many different music styles played with irreverence
and abandon: Be it Killdozer-esque Baron Of Beef to the haughty
posturing of Trash-Knight. Guanranteed Katch blend punk, jazz, meta and pop
into a unique miasma of humor and whit.) 17.50

GUNS UP! Outlive LP (1917 records - The follow up to the powerful EP
"All This Is," "Outlive" is the first full length from MA's Guns Up! and
their second release on 1917 Records. This picks up right where they
left off, with eleven tracks of New York style, groove-oriented hardcore
that pays tribute to bands like Leeway and Cro-Mags. Final pressing of
500 on purple vinyl available now.) 12.50

HAIR POLICE –blind kingdom- LP (ultra eczema records - Odd coloured
carpet of bizar 3d fields dominate the bright and lurid psychedelic
forests you’ll have to run through to grab a brew at the end of the trip. Hop
on the back of a giant pink elephant and let go, eventually follow his
tiny dick, like a tail if you are too small to climb up this pink turd
in space... But do give it a try and check out what’s left, that’s
right: nothing! Just a puddle of restless throbbing poop in different
colours. The elephant turns out to be a puddle as welll and the dounds you
are hearing are all on the most psychedelic Hair Police so far. This is
definatly way different than any of their other recordings, way more
high bliss, blown out delayed voice and hardly any harshness. Originally
recorded as a Hair Police radio special for Radio Centraal in Antwerp!
This black and neon blue eye destructive cover desigb and a psychic
lazer etch on the b-side of this 180 gr wax! Limited to 600 copies.) 19.00

INDIAN SUMMER discography LP (adagio830/ future recordings – FINALLY
AVAILABLE. Do you remember the days when emo actually meant to be emo?!
There has been a couple of bands like EVERGREEN, CONSTANTINE SANKATHI,
ORDINATION OF AARON that gave you goose bumps while listening to them.
One of them has been Indian Summer. There has been no other band like
Indian Summer that created that kind style so unique. Since all there old
releases are kinda ebay gold and it seems like kids still care about
their music – we thought it would be a nice thing to make all their songs
available on vinyl since a lot of CD discographies came out ovet the
years. So here we go – all there songs remastered for the first time on
vinyl in a long time. Every record comes w/ inlays and a nice poster,
printed w/ silver ink. Just beautiful.) 11.50

INTERPOL live paris Lp (black session records – rare live record.
Awesome sound quality. Good stuff) 17.00

JOY DIVISION an ideal for living 12" (rare 12" repress of the first 7"
… ) 16.00

LANDING Gravitational IV :: LP (gatefold sleeve) (equation records. LTD
to 450 copies. Full-length LP pressed on the highest-quality 180g
virgin vinyl. Featuring a beautiful heavy-card gatefold sleeve with
full-color 2-sided insert featuring an illustrated discography of the band's
earlier work. Up until now, Gravitational IV has been known as Landing's
lost album. Mostly recorded during the sessions that led to 2004's
Sphere, Gravitational IV is a varied and multi-textured album. Sound
experiments, free flowing drone freakouts, and softly lilting lullabies make
up what may be the most accomplished and interesting release of
Landing's 8 year career. This is music to stay indoors with. This is vessyl
music.) 17.50

MAXIMO PARK - Our Earthly Pleasures LP (warp records - For this, their
highly anticipated second album, Maximo Park focus and hone their wordy
indie punk, achieving new levels of sophistication along the way.
Vocalist Paul Smith is clearly gunning for that Morrissey-style approach to
lyric writing with a slew of observational witticisms running through
the album, but lines like “She goes out, she gets drunk/She gets off and
she goes until she gives in/It’s her life and her life is worth
living.” on ‘Girls Who Play Guitars’ – an apparent endorsement of female
hedonism – ultimately come across as both a bit patronising, and given that
these guys are from Newcastle (regional stereotyping alert), entirely
unnecessary. The instrumentation has expanded somewhat since A Certain
Trigger, with far more synth and keyboard lines adding texture to all
those jagged guitar parts, but not to the point where the energetic rock
aesthetic of old is compromised. There are plenty of highlights here,
especially the impassioned, nostalgia-laden ‘By The Monument’ and the
Smiths-alike ‘Books From Boxes’. A solid, surefooted sophomore effort.)
18.00

MORBID ANGEL "Domination" Rare Slime Green LP (erache - The original
German only pressing version of the Domination LP pressed on a bright
slime green vinyl. It looks awesome and is now very hard to find. Get them
from Earache direct while they are still available. The closest the
band got to commerciality, this album is non-stop clean cut Death Metal
from start to finish - includes "Where the Slime LIves" and the
experimental "Hatework".) 14.50

MURDER BY DEATH Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing LP (eyeball/
tentshow - Bloomington, Indiana's Murder By Death (Formely Little Joe
Gould) is part horror movie climax, part western barroom brawl, and a
dash of wintery and ambling layers reminiscent of the Cure. Their first
album, "Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing' is the conglomeration
of all these. There is both hair-raising intensity and fully aware
humor; the band garnishes their most dramatic songs with live
fire-breathing, ignited drums, and a glowing red skull that breathes fog. Keyboardist
Vincent Edwards put it best when he said, "There should always be a
place in the world for evil, evil music.") 15.00

OVO –miastenia- LP (load records - Milan, Italy?s Ovo are a two piece
using guitar/violin cellos and drums that dump a toxic sludge with an
unmistakable butterscotch scent. This sludge is in line with contemperous
doom salesmen such as BORIS and the MELVINS, with the addition of vox
stylings that take this record to a new place entirely. The sounds
coming from Stephania Pedretti?s mouth as she sings go from lullaby sweet to
terrifyingly raw in short intervals. Instrumentation on this platter is
diverse, with guitars, bass, drums being added to the mix as well as
music store stand-by?s like harmonica, piano, and cello.) 13.00

PAINKILLER "Buried Secrets" LP (earache – a godflesh sideproject w/
John Zorn ... ) 9.00

PITCHSHIFTER the remix wars LP( earache - Several tracks from
Desensitized including "Triad" given a remix workout by Therapy?, Biohazard and
Gunshot.) 8.00

SCORN "Evanescence" DLP (earache - Scorn's finest hour bar none, the
moment when the vision of ambient dub all came together into something
hauntingly fresh and uncomfortably challenging. Spacious rhythms, dreamy
spaced out passages and a thudding, omnipresent bass drone make this an
all time Earache classic. 'Silver Rain Fell', 'Days Passed' and 'The
End' all slumber past in perfect doom-dub fashion, lulling the listener
into a place where the sounds might appear friendly, but the horror is
only just beneath the surface. Ex Napalm Death men Nik Bullen and Mick
Harris combine to their greatest effect on this, the perfect, pivotal
Scorn album.) 14.00

SIGHTNINGS absolutes LP (riot season records - Painfully pleasurable
NY anti-music that'll make you wince". THERE'S AVANT-GARDE and then
there's Sightings, who are evidently keen to decimate ear canals like
repeat spoonfuls of caustic soda. The third album release for NYC trio
SIGHTINGS. Following their two acclaimed albums ('Sightings' on Load +
'Michigan Haters' on Psycho-Path) this eight track bastard takes the
Sightings sound just that one cm further. The sound is still chaotic,
worrying, charming, unnerving, brutal and beautiful all inside 34 minutes.
It will dish out a throbbing headache if listened to at the wrong time
have no doubts. The sound of sheet metal guitars, bass thugery and
drums that sound like trash cans being beaten to death are all present and
correct. It's no-wave- white-noise-streetbum-inyourface goodness. The
vinyl is a limited pressing and will be accompanied by a CD version on
the always excellent Load Records.) 13.00

SISSY SPACEK / JOHN WIESE sississpsskssissrs 12” (misanthropic agenda -
Limited deluxe gatefold 12" edition. Manic torrentials of
multi-multidirectional percussion, guitar, voice, and electronics from the
mouse of John Wiese. Dynamite shack collage exclaims, "I must get out
of these clothes!" For those with faint hearts, etc.) 13.00

SNAKE APARTMENT Paint The Walls LP (parts unknown - Rhode Island's
Snake Apartment take the worst of late Black Flag, Flipper, Brainbombs,
Drunks With Guns, God Bullies, and TAD and mix it together to create a
truly ugly record that is limited to 500 copies on green vinyl.) 12.50

STARS OF THE LID - ...and Their Refinement of the Decline 3xLP (kranky
- EXTREMELY LIMITED, DELUXE TRIPLE VINYL EDITION* Not a band who ever
do things by halves, this latest opus from Stars Of The Lid is a mammoth
two cd (or three vinyl) set and is breathtaking for the entire
duration. You see, although some might level that Adam Wiltzie and Brian
McBride have really stuck to the same style since their inception, they have
in my opinion been moving steadily forward with each release and have
gone from whispering post-shoegaze guitar drones to something altogether
more grandiose. It would be crass to describe the music as cinematic,
but the first thing that strikes me about "And their Refinement of the
Decline' is its similarity to the work of Zbigniew Preisner and
specifically his work with film director Krzysztof Kieslowski. This isn't
necessarily in sound alone, Stars of the Lid share Preisner's (and
Kieslowski's) sense of restraint, of minimalism and stark beauty without
resorting to meaningless sentimentalism. What we have here is beautiful music
in its rawest form - horns, strings and that haunting reverb-drenched
guitar all perfectly placed and allowed time to breathe. Nothing here is
rushed, you hear passages rise and fall gloriously, sounds make an
entrance and slowly disappear and nothing ever dares to outstay its
welcome. Arvo Part, Gavin Bryars or Brian Eno would all be more than
appropriate comparisons for this stunning collection of work, but Stars of the
Lid are almost at the point where they defy comparison altogether. Of
course they have introduced further, more overtly 'classical' elements
into their mix but the music they are making is quite uniquely their own
- they are one of those rare bands that has absolutely defined a sound.
What we are hearing is frankly two musicians who are at the top of
their game, sharing their carefully measured view of the world with us and
allowing us a peek into musical perfection - and you really can't ask
for anything more than that. Without a shadow of doubt one of the
contenders for album of the year and proof if it were needed that Stars of
the Lid are one of the most quietly important bands of the moment...in
fact it's music like this that makes it so gratifying running a record
shop...) 23.00

SWEET COBRA praise LP(seventh rule – RESTOCK. Chicago's Sweet Cobra
draws from the influences of His Hero Is Gone, Black Flag and Unsane to
the more rock oriented Helmet and newer heavy staples High on Fire. One
can hear those influences and variations of others, merging classic rock
riffs and rhythms with hardcore breakdowns and heated angry vocals.
Songs written like verses of an epic war story or something biblical,
create the appropriate setting for the band's first record PRAISE. Sweet
Cobra contains current members of Suicide Note, The Hope Conspiracy,
Suicide File, The Killing Tree and Challenger... so that coupled with the
listed influences should give you an inkling of this album's intensity!)

TALK IS POISON Condensed Humanity: The Prank EPs LP (prank - Leading
the charge of bay area hardcore bands in the mid-late '90s, Talk Is
Poison belted out ferocious punk rock with a thunderous rhythm section,
howled vocals, and a dual guitar attack. This collection compiles all of
the band's recorded material, including the "Straight To Hell" 7", the
split with Deathreat and the "Control" 7". Members went on to play key
roles in Dead And Gone, Look Back And Laugh, Suicide Party, Year Future
and more.) 12.00

UNEARTHLY TRANCE the trident LP (relapse records - On their Relapse
Records debut The Trident, New York's Unearthly Trance explore the mind's
third eye, putting to sound the heavy, doom-laden thoughts that are
buried deep in all psyches. Unearthly Trance deliver chilling, hostile
vibes taken straight from the mind’s cold steely abyss with a merciless
strike. With The Trident, Unearthly Trance has embraced its past and
fused it together with a new and exciting sense of momentum. The Trident
is the result of a band that has never been more focused and
determined. Unearthly Trance are set to bring on the mental apocalypse.Like the
Melvins meeting Darkthrone in a Brooklyn bar under a full moon. Doom or
get fucked!) 16.00

ZOMBI surface to air LP (relapse records - The extraordinary two-piece
Zombi has reappeared with Surface to Air, the long-awaited follow-up to
its acclaimed debut Cosmos. Surface to Air teems with the stirring,
trance-inducing deluges of rhythm and sound the duo is renowned for.
Swelling waves of melodic synth ride atop a broad bass and drum foundation.
Sequences of repetition roll, build, and unfold with the measured
patience of master artisans. Less an album than a moving, breathing mass of
symphonic sound; Surface to Air creates boundless moving pictures that
are nothing short of breathtaking. for fans of GOBLIN or JOHN
CARPENTER) 15.00

BORIS Soundtrack From The Film "mabuta No Ura" ltd CD (essence records
- The Japanese masters of drone and analog feedback never cease to
amaze us. Fans actually never know what to expect from a new album. Sludgy
guitar riffs, super distorted psych rock or mighty minimal drones? Just
be prepared for a new masterpiece, the way only they seem to do it.
Soundtrack from film Mabuta No Ura (translated as Backside Of The Eyelids)
presents BORIS at their most abstract personality. A stunning
guitar-driven psychedelic voyage to an imaginary land where Pink Floyd's "More"
meditates with Sunn 0))) drenched in ambience and feedback! Being a
flowing and brooding soundtrack to an imaginary film conceived by the
three band members, the album manages to present the listener to a number
of moods and soundscapes without actually breaking out of its shell.
From mellow, dreamy Syd Barret-inspired acoustic incursions, hazy vocals,
slow post-rock tones and rhythms to occasional bursts of dynamics
passing through avant-noise experiments and mammoth deep drones of blasting
energy (like on the 12 minutes long "Space Behind Me (part 1)"). A
contemplative masterwork! This is the extended Brazilian/world CD version of
Soundtrack from film Mabuta No Ura, containing different artwork and
exclusive extra music not available on the Japanese CD/LP, housed in a
slipcase that holds our luxurious custom heavy mini-replica of the
gatefold vinyl including a set of cards unveiling mabuta no ura stories and
photos of the band members taken in their most recent European trip.)

CHAMPION Different Directions/The Last Show CD/DVD (bridge nine - This
DVD is a six-camera angle, professionally edited documentary of the
last time Champion hit the stage. The sold out El Corazon in Seattle
boasted almost 1,000 people in attendance for their final show. The shooting
was done by High-Roller Studios, known for their work with Lamb Of
God's "Killadelphia" and Every Time I Die's "Shit Happens" DVDs and
hundreds of others. Complete with interviews with kids at the show, the band
members, past members, footage from their earliest days and the entire
show start to finish, this is a comprehensive look at a band that
defined positive, energetic hardcore and toured the world for years on their
own terms. Take all those crappy VHS tapes and throw them away because
this is the ultimate hardcore live video that captures the energy,
excitement, passion, and the fun of a hardcore show clear and from the
middle of the fury with the professionally mixed and mastered 24 track
soundboard audio.) 14.50

GO IT ALONE histories CD (rivalry - "Histories" is the second
full-length release from Vancouver's own Go It Alone. As a follow up to "The
Only Blood Between Us," this 11 track album combines GIA's brand of
melodic hardcore (Battery, Chain Of Strength, Count Me Out, Dag Nasty) with a
darker, heavier sound a la Damnation A.D. As usual, the album is full
of thought-provoking, brutally honest, introspective lyrics that hit
strikingly close to home, pulling at the strings of self-doubt.) 13.00
