- GIFTS FROM ENOLA: Mit Gifts From Enola kommt eine weitere Band des kleinen, aber sehr inspirierenden The Mylene Sheath-Labels über den großen Teich, wie zuvor bereits ihre Labelkollegen Caspian, Junius und Constants. Ihr instrumentaler Postrock hat etwas von so unterschiedlichen Bands wie The Mars Volta, Minus The Bear, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, This Will Destroy You bis hin zu Converge. Trotz einer zunehmenden gewissen Reizüberflutung in diesem Genre schaffen es Gifts From Enola mit dieser Eigenständigkeit zu überzeugen und ihrem Sound eine eigene und ganz spezielle Note zu geben. Momentan arbeitet die Band noch am Nachfolger des wunderbaren (und ebenso verpackten) "From Fathoms"-Albums, welches noch vor der Tour erscheinen soll. - www.giftsfromenola.blogspot.com
SPORTO: The band began in 2007 as a daydream between two friends. Respected post-punk bandleader Bourek asked his childhood friend Šampón to come over and sing over some loops made on his laptop. They asked legendary Czech post-punk bassist Dada (of Lvmen) to join, and bright young drummer Kluk rounded out the line-up. Full-length One Minute Cardinal was their opening statement: a burst of spastic and joyful vocal energy, sparse beats, bent acoustic guitars that got even the angriest punks onto the dancefloor. In 2009 they released More, an ambitious album of anthemic electro and moody post-punk that features collaborations with Slovakian rappers Lyric and Del. This reflects the bands ongoing search for innovative, progressively minded music in the Slavic world. Slovakia has had a stellar hip hop scene for a generation, and SPORTO sought out like minds within it. The album also features bass from another legend in the Czech punk community, Adam from Gnu. Now it's 2010, and SPORTO wants the world to know what is going on back home. With screams, with croons, with whispers, over synth hooks and hypnotic basslines they ask friends and foes to consider the following: Neo-nazis terrorize Roma children and get elected into office / an unholy alliance of unrehabilitated communists and pro-fatcat businesspeople perform political charades in a failing democratic system / City governments strip rights of assembly from protestors / Punk scene politics create division rather than solidarity / The DIY ethic never knew a more useful tool than internet distribution / ... In their widely acclaimed albums and EPs they sing of it, and with their bodies they support actions against the profiteering, privatization, government corruption, racism, and human rights abuses that many would accept as a bargain for having a new car, Ikea, supermarkets, and american-style malls. As early 30 somethings, they want to stand between two worlds and show the younger generation of Czechs that there is something crucial besides just material comfort.
