THE OCEAN - Neues Album Pelagial im April 2013

"Pelagial will be released as a 2xCD, including a vocal and an instrumental version of the album. The CD version (on Metal Blade Records) comes in a 10-panel digipak with epic artwork by
Seldon Hunt (see mockup below). The vinyl version (Pelagic Records) consists of four 10" vinyl records in various vinyl colours and styles, packed into 2 gatefolds."
Als besonderes Highlight gibt es jeweils ein CD sowie LP Acryl Box Set zu bestellen - ein passendes Bild seht im am Ende des Artikels: Seldon Hunt (see mockup below). "A special acrylic boxset edition of the album will be released through Pelagic Records, both CD and vinyl formats. These heavy acrylic boxes will contain the CD digipak vs. the 2 vinyl gatefolds respectively; which will be "buried" underneath 5 thick acrylic layers, coloured in different hues of transparent blue, each layer reflecting one of the 5 pelagial depth zones.
These acrylic layers and boxes will be silk-screen printed by hand in Berlin with artwork by Martin Kvamme. The combined effect of the patterns that we will print onto the individual layers, and the material thickness (up to 1,8 cm!), will create a 3D visual effect when looked at from different angles and in different lighting conditions. To be fair, we don't really know exactly how this will come out at this point - it is a highly experimental art project and we are prepared for surprises (and for adapting the print design if need be).
We only have some crappy mockups to show you at the moment, but this should give you at least a rough idea of what this will look like. We will update you regularly as soon as we receive new things to show!
The sheer weight of these boxes is quite epic: 5kg
per vinyl box and 1 kg per CD box! Manufacturing is
extremely difficult and expensive, hence the high price.
Given the possibility of unforeseeable difficulties with the production and shipment of 3,5 tons of acrylic layers, we cannot guarantee a definite shipping date at this point.
If everything goes according to plan, we will ship end of April. In any case, every one who preorders will receive
a download link for the album by email on the release date!!! So even if you may have to wait a week or two for your physical boxset to arrive, you'll have the album already.
We believe it will be worth the months of time and the money invested, and hope you appreciate our efforts to offer our loyal fans who order from us directly something truly special. We are quite confident that this is one of the most unique packagings in the history of record packagings :-)
Both boxsets will also come with an extra DVD featuring
a 5:1 dolby surround mix of the instrumental version of "Pelagial", and the Pelagial movie by Craig Murray (Nine Inch Nails, Converge), which the band will also show as live video projections during their upcoming shows. This movie, which is the meticulous work of shooting, cutting and editing for a whole year, completes the holistic music and visual art project that is Pelagial. For the full experience of the album, you must see the film!
These boxes are strictly limited to 1000 (CD boxes) and 500 (vinyl boxes) - once they are gone, they are gone.
The standard digipak edition of the album will be available for preorder from us or from Metal Blade's online shop from March 11th."
