- The Grey is a powerful, melodic rock quartet that periodically delves into experimental tangents. With influences ranging from Fugazi, the Jesus Lizard, Seaweed, Drive Like Jehu, and Juno to Tom Petty, The MC5, Neil Young, and Nick Cave, one can be assured that hints of styles, new and established, can be found in their post-rock stylings. The Grey is Matt Deline (guitar/vox), Hayden Menzies (percussion), Chuck Saso (guitar/back vox), and Luke Rashotte (bass/vox). Formed in the spring of 2003 in Ottawa, Canada, The Grey turned sporadic practices among old friends in a sweltering attic into a weekly ritual. This allowed the members of previous bands such as Shotmaker, Three Penny Opera, and Buried Inside to assemble a new musical group. These casual sessions quickly began to churn out a hybrid of punk rock and quirky experimental parts that sparked the enthusiasm of everyone involved and The Grey was born. The band strives to write innovative music that captures their passion and play for as many ears as possible. In August 2003 the Grey’s debut recording “Open Credit” was released on Ottawa punk rock patriarch Shawn Scallen’s record label spectrasonicsound. Their second full-length "Asleep At The Wheel" they in summer 2005 for Lovitt Records. They have performed with band such as Engine Down, Thursday, The Constantines, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Death From Above 1979, among others.
Brood sind gute alte Bekannte aus Potsdam und bestechen seit nun fast schon zehn Jahren durch klaren, hymnischen Emocore/Punkrock mit zwei schön aufeinander abgestimmten Gitarren, Melodiegesp´ür und knackigen Arrangements. Die Stimme hat was von Walter Schreiffels (Rival Schools), somit ist die Richtung schonmal recht klar, auch wenn die Stücke komplex und durchdacht sind, weniger den "Hit" im Hinterkopf als vielmehr den reifen runden Song; und die ein oder andere Dischord-Scheibe haben die Jungs sicher auch im Plattenschrank. „We started with BROOD back in 1996. That time Sven (dr.) and Christoph (g,voc) tried to emerge musically ways out of their backgrounds which were basically grindcore and punkrock. After a few rehearsals our old friend Marco (g) joined the band. With him and the help of several bass players we started working more efficient resulting in our s/t 7 EP (2001) and a first tour through the UK/Ireland. Finally in 2002 Dirk (bg) completed our line-up. He was known as the singer of local hardcore heroes UNSILENT MINORITY. We released „H.“ in 2003 which got well responses decribing BROOD in the vein of discord bands like Fugazi. We`ve been touring Sweden, Belgium and again the UK/IRE. In 2004 we recorded „Define content“ on their bands own NERO CHERI label. It also got good press focussing the bands unique sound. We toured Poland and Czech Republic. In 2006 we released "program to demystify" which is available via our homepage.“ -
