BERGENFIELD FOUR s/t 7" (lowdown records - Featuring Damian of Fucked
Up on vocals and members of Alexisonfire on the instruments, Toronto's
Bergenfield Four play a jangly punk rock that borrows from bands like
Gang Green and other early Boston punk bands while retaining the melody
and rock and roll sound that characterizes Fucked Up's style.) 5.50
BIRDS OF DELAY/ DREAMCATCHER split 7" (not not fun single club - UK
wastoids Birds of Delay wing flighty electronics into a burbling ball of
purple snarling sound. Montreal's Dreamcatcher weave a chaos quilt out
of turntables, voice, and collective this is a part of the SOLD OUT NNF
single club) 5.00
DIVE force five 7" (moo cow record - This was the repress of their
debut vinyl release on Evolution Records, which was impossible to find. The
original press had a difference front cover, but the same back cover.
This was one of the best, if not the best, early 1990s Boston hardcore
records.) 4.00
END OF A YEAR / KIDS EXPLODE - Split 7inch (narshardaa - split 7" for
both bands European tour starting in late may. Kids Explode from
Freiburg play furious and energetic post hc. the single features two new short
smash hits. End Of A Year from Albany sound like a modern version of
Rites Of Spring, but are far away from being a rip off. Emo. Emo. Emo.
Well, with this release Narshardaa will do what you expect from them.
Another emo record,or what? next record will be some Oi again.) 3.50
FACEDOWN/ EARTHMOVER split 7" (moo cow records - This record was
extremely popular at the time of its issue, I'm not sure how it will stand
the test of time though. Earthmover, from Detroit MI, played top notch
mosh hardcore. This was one of their few releases that Andy did not
release on his own label Plus Minus Records. The flip side features the
Belgium band Facedown. By far the best of the numerous metallic hardcore
bands that go by the name Facedown. I believe these two tracks are among
the best they did. Most of this band's records were on Genet Records
from their home country. Very powerful release.) 4.00
GO - what we built together 7" (diy - While in California in Jan, 2007
for their mini-tour GO! recorded for this new 7"EP, a follow-up to
2006’s "Reactive" EP & CD. Musically, you can expect GO!-style hardcore
with some interesting twists and turns. Lyrically, songs touch on a
variety of topics. The title of the EP is taken from the song "Room Enough on
this World" which about seeing people beyond an us-vs.-them mentality.
"Too Religious" is about those assholes we all know and hate who feel
the need to condemn others with their self-righteous bullshit. "Polar
Bears are Drowning" is like duh - but it brings up the impact we're
making on the planet - and the record lists some resources people can
support to help offset the impact our species is having. Some other songs,
and for fun there's "Du Sagst" and "Atah Omer Sheh'", which are versions
of GO!’s 1990's classic "You Say You'll"... but in German and Hebrew,
respectively.) 4.00
HEAVY WINGED/ BLUES CONTROL split 7" (not not fun - Brooklyn/PDX
wrecking crew Heavy Winged lurch out a riff monster of concrete crush, while
NY groove-riders Blues Control trip the cosmos with space-drug
arkestral maneuvers. This a part of teh NNF singles club) 5.00
HIT THE LIGHTS s/t 7“ (reaper records - After releasing their stellar
(and critically acclaimed) self-titled full length in 2005, Internal
Affairs returns with "Deadly Visions," a collection of songs that shows
they still have what it takes to continue to be at the top of the best
bands currently residing in Southern California. "Deadly Visions" shows
no signs of the band slowing down, taking their lightning-fast yet
impressively hard sound and mixing it with Corey Williams' patented "fuck
yeah" lyrics. Recorded at Blood Tracks (with Nick Jett from Terror) and
mixed by Paul Miner.) 5.00
INTERNAL AFFAIRS Deadly Visions 7" (malfunction – After releasing their
stellar (and critically acclaimed) self-titled full length in 2005,
Internal Affairs returns with "Deadly Visions," a collection of songs
that shows they still have what it takes to continue to be at the top of
the best bands currently residing in Southern California. "Deadly

patented "fuck yeah" lyrics. Recorded at Blood Tracks (with Nick Jett from

JUNIPER LANDER same 7" (sncl/ sticky sticky - sncl just keeps laying on
the emo. jupiter lander cleverly weave the noisier leanings of a band
like yaphet kotto with the heart breaking melodies of the mid west and
the gentle twinklings of september to deliver a wonderful three song
debut release. i am rather floored at how well this single has turned
out, these songs will cut you off at the knees.) 4.00
MENEGUAR Bury a flower 7" (troubleman - A special limited edition
7-inch from NYC rock saviors MENEGUAR. Includes two exclusive songs (not
from their album) that were recorded in February 2006, that act as a
teaser to the band´s next full length due in early 2007. Limited to 1,000
copies on colored vinyl.) 5.00
MINDFLAYER/ DEEP JEW split 7" (not not fun single club - Fort
thunderers Mindflayer lay waste to the brains of the past. Five dimensional
assault. LA scum crew Deep Jew give themselves shitty bic pen tattoos and
puke into a wall of amps. this is a part of the NOT NOT FUN single club
and we got some of the leftovers) 5.00
NEW DAY RISING/ ATLAS SHRUGGED split 7" (moo cow - This record was most
notable as it was the start of a long and fruitful relationship with
Canada's New Day Rising. Love them or hate them, they were extremely
popular. I had always wanted to work with Chris Weinblad of Atlas Shrugged
/ Trip Machine Laboratories, so I had planned a split 7" with his
band. Originally this was supposed to be a release with Norway's Lash Out
being the other side of the split. For some unknown reason they
completely blew me off and there I was scrambling for another band. I had just
gotten a hold of a New Day Rising demo, and of course was blown away.
Bless them, but they recorded and got me a DAT and cover art within
about 3 weeks of first speaking with them. The DAT of this track "T.V.
Dinners" was lost, so it does not appear on their "discography" CD on
Eulogy Records, making this the only place it can be heard) 4.00
NEW DAY RISING tour 7“ (mow cow - This EP was given to New Day Rising
for one of their tours. 200 made, all on Clear V. It contains their side
of the split EPs with Atlas Shrugged and Despair.) 4.50
NEW YEAR tycho - 1 7" (moo cow – records - This is the only release Moo
Cow has with a Texas band. New Year from Austin TX broke up around the
time this was released. Very unfortunate because if they had stuck
around I believe they would have become extremely popular. Rough hardcore
in the vein of No Escape or Undertow. This record is their second vinyl
release, their first being a split 7" with fellow Texans 1066.) 4.00
PARADES END/ SKY FALLS DOWN split 7" (moo cow records - This is a great
great record. In 15 years if there is ever an emo revival I think this
record will be recognized as a lost classic. Parades End from CA's
second release, their first being a solo 7" on Wordsmith Covenant. This is
Sky Falls Down from NJ's 2nd release, their first being a split 7"
with Bearing. Sky Falls Down features some members that went onto You & I,
among other bands. They were another band that sent me demos
religiously and this project was eventually born.) 4.00
ROBEDOOR/ YELLOW SWANS split 7" (arbor records - Voices, confusion,
poisons. An endless fade to grey. "It’s about time that two of the West
Coast’s best units share a slab of vinyl together. This is an epic
coupling. LA’s Robedoor (an obvious Arbor favorite) present what might be
their best work yet, “Tremor Deliverance”. Synths and subdued vocals weave
together into an ornamental sound tapestry with heavy Middle Eastern
influence. Total satyagraha. Portland’s Yellow Swans are constantly
touring (just now embarking on a multi-month European jaunt) and spreading
the word of sonic liberation. Their untitled piece is a wall of sound,
totally alive and growing, infinitely large. In an edition of 500
copies with printed labels and silkscreened art by Shawn Reed of
Raccoo-oo-oon.") 5.00
RUINER The Lives We Fear 7" (bridge nine - Ruiner has been turning
heads since 2004 with a frenetic mix of hardcore and punk. This features
two new songs from the upcoming LP "Prepare To Be Let Down." It's a
limited pressing to only 1000 copies.) 5.00
SICK FIX same 7" (third party record - From the nation's capital, Sick
Fix blaze through seven songs on this debut release, using female
vocals and rapid fire drums to create raging thrash/punk/hardcore akin to
that of bands like What Happens Next? And Tear It Up.) 4.50
THE SKULL DEFEKTS "Storm Skull Dub" 7" (meu dia morte - 2 new Creepy
minimal electronic noise tracks by The Skull Defekts (member of Union
Carbide Productions, Kid Commando, Alvars Orkester) My Favourite s.d.
release after the "rotating feedback.." cd. Limited to 200 copies, 170 with
a black label, 30 in a white label. in clear black, white, grey vinyl
or call it dirty.) 6.00
UNBROKEN and / fall on proverb 7" (three on g – a must have as a
repress w/ a blakc cover. San Diego's most inspirational straight edge hard
core band to date. This band includes members that also played in
STRUGGLE, SWING KIDS, and KILL HOLIDAY. Emotionally charged and ready to
mosh. this one's their 7" to the "life.love.regret. album, one of the most
inspiring hardcore records ever released...) 5.00
WOODEN WAND More From The Mountain 7" (woodist - More From The Mountain
features one of James Jackson Toth's final transmissions under the
Wooden Wand moniker. Side A has been a live favorite for some time, while
Side B's "Guru Femmes" is a home recording of a long-retired tune
entirely exclusive to this release. Limited, hurry, etc) 5.00
V/A "World Hardcore vol 2 7" (moo cow - featuring: Hamilton, Man In The
Shadow, Dischord, True Blue, and Arm's Reach - This record took YEARS
too long to come out. I was trying to get it out while I was in
graduate school and I had multiple distractions going on in my life. When it
did finally come out an excellent beginning to end compilation with
tracks from Hamilton (noisy hardcore from Michigan, USA), Man In The Shadow
(old school Euro hardcore from Slovenia), Dischord (crust hardcore
from Brazil), True Blue (Cro Mags-ish metallic hardcore from Germany) and
Arm's Reach (fast straight forward dual vocaled hardcore from
Australia) was born. A top notch compilation from beginning to end, and the
tracks here were not issued on vinyl or CD anywhere else as far as I have
been able to find out.) 4.00
10“
GRAF ORLOCK destination time tomorrow 10" (vendetta – FINALLY we got
all the covers. Destination Time Tomorrow is the second installment of
Graf Orlock’s time bending cinemagrind trifecta, based on an array of
cloudily interconnected storylines. Containing all of the latent brutality
and anger present in Gorlock’s 2006 release, Destination Time
Yesterday, this 8 song cdep and 10” inch kicks up the confrontation meter,
registering near inflammatory in the realm of requisite nihilism and
undeserved sarcasm. Destination Time Tomorrow is being released in support of
a Spring 2007 European tour and continues the so called “racket” of
intensity and life affirming violence synonymous with Graf Orlock.) 10.00
LP
BJÖRK Volta (limited) 2xLP Box (one little indian - limited edition of
Björk´s new album on double heavy vinyl in a special packaging. Volta"
is Björk's sixth studio album. Featuring new and original tracks,
"Volta" is written and produced by Björk, with three tracks co-produced
with Timbaland and Mark Bell. In the role of producer Björk has brought in
various other musicians to work on her songs and "Volta" features some
of her most interesting collaborations so far with Antony (Antony And
The Johnsons) singing on two tracks, and Timbaland (Jay-Z, Missy Elliot
etc) working with Björk on beats that she created for three further
songs. Other artists that feature on "Volta" include electronic pioneer
Mark Bell of LFO and two unique drummers – Chris Corsano (the
improvisational drummer who has worked with Sonic Youth amongst others) and Brian
Chippendale from Lightning Bolt. Björk also brought in two acclaimed
African artists for "Volta" - Toumani Diabate, the Malian kora player
and Konono No1 the experimental band from The Congo who won a BBC World
Music Award in 2006. She has also put together her own 10 piece female
brass section of Icelandic musicians who play on three further tracks.
Meanwhile Chinese pipa expert Min Xiao-Fen plays on one song.) 32.00

with classic doom metal with monstrous vocals…

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL / TUNGUSKA SPLIT LP ("The Bold and the
Beautiful started in autumn 2004 with a few members of punk bands from
Lublin area (AntiChrist, Silence, G.C.M., Poem After Auschwitz, Unanimous
Society's Paradox, AntiCop), cause guys were just pissed off on polish
specific lifestyle, political madness, religious frauds and attitudes of
scene gestapo/scene merchandise of some dumbs. They had an idea to
connect fast and angry punkrock with old style sarcasm in the vein of early
'80 hardcore and with political but not always deadly serious lyrics.
In total - two guitars, two screamers, one bass and one drums. They
call it Gitwa Punk and if you like Siekiera (a polish old punk "legend")
you know what they mean ? fast and furious crusty powerviolence,
aggressive and in your face. On the other side of the split you find Tunguska
? Irish/Polish hybride with heavy and dark monumental neocrust mayhem.
Totally devastating and powerful wall of sound in the vein of Silence,
FAR, The Dagda etc.") 8.50
DAMEZUMARI/FIRE TEAM CHARLIE split LP (STG/ ROK LOK/ MAGISTER LUDI
records - DAMEZUMARI play a brand of technically minded mid west emo/post
punk that is a cross between Off Minor and Life at These Speeds. On the
flipside FIRE TEAM CHARLIE plays raw anthemic post punk that should
appeal to fans of Sinaloa or True North. Lp comes w/ screenprinted covers
and a nice booklet - worth checking out!) 10.00
DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR count me in LP (bridge nine - Three years after
first teaming up with Bridge Nine, Death Before Dishonor is unleashing
"Count Me In," their debut full-length on Bridge Nine Records. Death
Before Dishonor has a sense of hardcore history in their sound, but they
step outside of that with influences in metal, classic punk, and
hardcore that finds a spot somewhere between Hatebreed and Dropkick Murphys.
This is catchier, heavier, faster, and more punishing than any hardcore
record this year and one listen will prove that there is more to every
song than a crushing breakdown. Now available on colored vinyl and
limited to 1,500 copies.) 12.00
DIG THAT BODY UP, IT'S ALIVE "A Corpse Is Forever" LP (rock is hell -
hen you think Bay Area and 'metal', you probably think Metallica, or
Exodus, maybe even Testament. But had things gone a little differently,
you might be thinking Dig That Body Up, It's Alive. Okay, well, maybe
not, but if you were us, and you had been lucky enough to experience the
freaked out metallic damage of this SF trio back in the day, this record
would be having you losing your mind. And hell, even if you missed out
on the DTBUIA years, which most folks probably did, one listen to this
record, will immediately transport you to some dark sweaty hole in the
wall, right into the middle of a heaving mass of sweaty kids, while
right at the center, a guitarist and a drummer duel to the death, while
the vocalist grunts and growls, climbing into the rafters, hanging from
pipes, leaping into the crowd, rolling around on the floor. You may
not have been there, but it's easy to hear what it must have been like.
Dig The Body Up, It's Alive featured SF luminary John Dwyer
(Coachwhips, OCS, Ohsees, Pink And Brown, Landed) on guitar and Oren Canfield
(Child Abuse) on drums and the mighty Nate Denver (Total Shutdown, Nate
Denver's Neck) on vocals. Dwyer's guitar is most definitely the focal
point, his guitar emitting short bursts of convoluted metallic fury, the
riffs squiggly and angular as often as downtuned and chugging, the drums
the perfect foil, blasts of double kick, strange mathy grooves, full on
blast beats, everything lurching and stumbling, stop start stop and
start again, chaotic and furious, like some alien strain of death metal
filtered through these three guys' cracked musical filter. Above it all,
Denver growling and grunting, death metal gurgles, telling tales of
dragons and monsters and other completely off the wall stuff.
Originally slated to come out on tUMULt before the band died a
premature death, this is finally seeing the light of day thanks to the always
killer Rock Is Hell label. Vinyl only, limited to 333 copies. The covers
are hand screened, inside and out, and there's an insert with Denver's
history of the band. And as if we even needed to say it, WAY
RECOMMENDED!) 13.50
EDITORS an and has a start LP(pias - If Ian Curtis was still alive he’d
no doubt be a fan of this band, if not for the bleak lyrics and
forceful guitars, for the way it’s all hidden behind a veil of catchy,
soaring pop melody. ‘The Back Room’ was an astounding debut, and when
interviewing the Midlanders last year this humble Rockfeedbacker meekly asked,
“where do you go from here?” to which they simply answered, “we’re
going to make all the big bits bigger and all the small bits smaller”.
Such a straightforward concept and one that excited me to the point of
uncontainable impatience until finally a copy of their new album landed at
my door… and, well…just good) 17.00
ETTRICK Feeders of Ravens LP (not not fun - Prepare for sudden death.
San Francisco brutalizers Ettrick finally deliver the full-length
destruction they've been threatening for so long now. Feeders of Ravens is
definitely the most potent collection of harsh jazz violence the duo's
ever laid to tape, showcasing all their classic kill-moves: slaughtering
saxophone dialogues, jittery percussive fits, raging horn/drum
self-annihilation, etc. What escalates their improv attacks above just blind
frenzy is the warped telepathy Jacob Heule and Jay Korber exhibit in
their playing, wordlessly intuiting one another's energy upswings and
downturns. And nowhere is this psychic connection more apparent (and
demonic) than on "Raven Harvest,” the LP's final onslaught. Searing sax blasts
burn through the ear drum, giving way to splatter paint percussion
flailings and scraping metal, which then slowly take shape, coagulating
into a dense, aggressive avalanche of pummeling, white-hot drum rapture.
Life into death into life. Black LPs in pro-printed jackets with
majestically sinuous, Haida-style cover art (and memento mori raven back
art). Limited to 350.) 13.00
ISIS Celestial DLP (conspiracy - First european vinyl pressing, there
will be two special colours for mailorder only<br> Overwhelming in
heaviness and awesome in expanse, Celestial escalates ISIS' thunderous
assault and explores infinite shades of mood and sound. Seven epic songs
launched with mechanistic precision and carefully measured flourishes that
collapse into avalanche-heavy passages of devastating power.) 18.50
Kolokol "Flammer og Farger" LP(moo cow records - The Kolokol "Flammer
og Farger" LP is out. LP pressed at Bill Smith Records, mastered at John
Golden Mastering, 24 page off set printed black and white booklets by
Imprint Indie Printing, covers from Ross Ellis via Icon Omnimedia Corp.
Full on, full force Norwegian punk ala Kafka Process or So Much Hate)
9.50
LAMBCHOP damged LP (city slang - Their tenth full-length is yet another
stunning collection of songs written by Kurt Wagner and brought to
life by up to seventeen band members and collaborators. Eschewing the
overt country influences of early Lambchop records and the R&B and soul
influences of mid-period albums for a hushed austerity that is uniquely
southern yet oddly universal, "Damaged" continues in the quiet and
haunting tradition pioneered on the past three Lambchop albums ("Is A Woman",
"Aw C'mon", and "No You C'mon").15.50
LUZIFERS MOB discography LP (crucificados - this legendary german
hardcore, grind, powerviolence outfit existed from 1992 to 1996 and at that
time they were one of those famous european counterbalance to the so
called powerviolence scene in the states where bands as crossed out, no
comment, lack of interest did shape this type of music .. this
discography contains songs from the "close your eyes and see death", "whispers",
"die human race", "plot", "up for grabs" compilations, the rare demo,
the 7" and the split lp with golgatha .. all in all 50 songs .. all
lp's come with an extensive booklet and the original poster from the
golgatha split .. only 500 copies were made .. so hurry up to get your hands
on this masterpiece .. essential stuff) 10.00
MYTHICAL BEAST/ POCAHAUNTED split LP (not not fun - If the body is a
temple, then the human voice is the endless Om pulsing within the
architecture. And if the body is a corpse, then it's the post-life ghost mist
hissing in the wind. Either way, it's a heavy force, and this split LP
spotlights two of today's greatest vocal ritualists at the peak of
their process. Drone gypsies Mythical Beast have spent the last few years
like nomads, drifting from N'awlins to Austin to Kansas City, and their
piece here ("Gone to Grey") throbs with a weary hypnosis, too many
nights spent staring into foreign freeways...alien landscapes passing in
the dark. These are blues for the rootless, homeless feedback curling up
by the side of the road, by the side of a grave. Hitchhiking into the
void. Pocahaunted, too, beckon the dead, turning in a crushing,
low-lidded amplifier chant of clanging guitar and primitive distortion. "Swayed
Tongue" treads even deeper into the forests of noise they explored on
Native Seduction, bathing their tribe-song prayer shawls in rivers of
electricity and twilight static. Totem soul totality. Opaque violet LPs
in pro-printed jackets with unbelievable colored pencil tomb rumination
artwork by NNF's favorite color dreamer, Devon Varmega, plus an eagle
feather. Limited to 380.) 12.50
NINA NASTASIA & JIM WHITE - You Follow Me LP (fat cat - I have to say I
totally fell in love with Nina Nastasia's last album 'On Leaving' -
okay it may not have been 'Dogs' but it was a perfectly formed collection
of beautiful and memorable songs held together by those glorious vocal
chords we've all become so obsessed with. Here however she strips her
sound down to the bare minimum and is seen paired up with Dirty Three
drummer Jim White who contributes some of the most interesting stickwork
I've heard in a record so far this year. White has been one of the
members of the Nina Nastasia touring band since 2002, but on 'You Follow
Me' he is given the space to do what he does best, and shows us why
Dirty Three have been lodged in our hearts and minds for so long. At first
the sparseness of a record with just vocals, guitar and drums is
jarring but before long all becomes clear and White's technical but soulful
percussion becomes just as affecting as Nastasia's voice. In essence
these are typical Nina Nastasia songs (and damn good ones at that) but
Whites involvement gives them an avant backbone you'd never expect to hear
in this context and makes it sound shockingly original. It's the sort
of collaboration you'd just never expect to hear, the honeyed softness
of Nastasia's vocals pitched against something so technical would, on
paper sound a little strange but it's something that works so well you
wonder why nobody's approached something like this before. Just listen
to 'I Write Down Lists' as White's drumming goes from soft and scratchy
to almost military in a mere breath mirroring Nastasia's voice - in
fact this song reminds me of early Belly, albeit put through some kind of
improv mangle. I don't think I've ever heard Nina Nastasia quite like
this before, and the openness, the willingness to experiment and the
sheer power on 'You Follow Me' is almost overwhelming, and at all times
you get the feeling that she's really enjoying what she's doing here.
This is a deep and very listenable release, so whether you're a
long-standing Nastasia fan or not it's without a doubt worth a much closer
look...) 16.50
PETE THE PIRATE SQUID - don't correct me if i'm wrong LP (altin village
- Finally their debut record in stock - a little piece of passion and
punkrock and I wouldn´t call them screamo ... They just do what they
like and they do it by heart. I think its their best recording to date
and you should check it out) 9.50
PIG DESTROYER Phantom Limb LP (relapse - Almost three years in the
making, Pig Destroyer's "Phantom Limb" furthers the enigmatic band's
nihilistic, shock and awe attack. Pig Destroyer boil metal down to its
muscle, sinew and bone - razor sharp guitar, percussive pummeling and a lone,
stark howl - and use them to commit a vicious assault. The lyrics
paint loathsome, frightening images of pitch black self-hatred and the
frailty of the human experience.) 16.00
PISSED JEANS Hope For Men LP (sub pop - After much ado, the debut Sub
Pop full-length from Allentown, PA's Pissed Jeans is set to go, with
ten songs of dirty low-fi punk that takes the most vile aspects of bands
like The Jesus Lizard and Flipper to create their own mix of volatility
and humor. Vinyl version includes coupon for free MP3s of the entire
album.) 15.50
PLEASURE FOREVER Bodies Need Rest LP (conspiracy - Bodies Need Rest is
a posthumous collection of unreleased and rare Pleasure Forever
recordings. This release was originally intended to be an EP of cover songs
that in one way or another fit the gestalt of Pleasure Forever. At long
last, this album consists of four cover songs from that unfinished EP,
plus four rare tracks forming a comprehensive timeline from the band's
beginning. This album includes 5 previously unreleased Pleasure Forever
tracks as well as two B-sides previously released on Sub Pop and one
track from the out-of-print Buddyhead Gimme Skelter compilation. PLEASURE
FOREVER is not currently active, but the long-awaited release
featuring unreleased songs (some of which have been posted here in the past),
B-sides and compilaiton tracks is set for official release worldwide on
May 22, 2007 via Conspiracy Records. Each band member lives in a
different city on the west coast and is involved in other musical projects at
this time. Andrew Rothbard released his first solo album Abandoned
Meander in late 2006 on Smooch Records. David Clifford currently plays
drums in RED SPAROWES and bass guitar in THE SAGITTARIANS. Josh Hughes has
a new band called RABBITS featuring ex-Lion Fever drummer Kevin
Garrison. Pleasure Forever was once known as SLAVES and all thee members
played previously in The VSS.) 13.50
ROBEDOOR/ LESLIE KEFFER split LP (lost treasures of the underworld -
Primo heavy drunkard rock from Robedoor, and
toss-all-your-pedals-on-a-table party from Leslie Keffer. Deluxe package with gold printing, insert
with Zac Davis art. Tracklisting: Leslie Keffer-Silver Bridge,
Robedoor-Hooded Communion. New limited edition of 300 copies split LP with
gold-on-black silkscreened covers featuring artwork from Doug Johnston
(Skylab) and Nathan Bowers (Tusco Terror) with an insert by Zac Davis of
Lambsbread. Robedoor side is a huge, chugging sÇance that scales peak
after peak of distressed peyote ritual. Something in the sound of the
tortured vocals and the general atmosphere of clank and terror reminds me
a little of live Sonic Youth circa "Evol" given a particularly
flatlined re-think. Keffer's side is a monolithic swath of drone/noise with
disobedient looped vox that ascends through a couple of heavens of crunch.

SEBADOH - The Freed Man DLP (domino - Lou Barlow and Eric Gaffney set
about work on their lo-fi masterpiece The Freed Man back in 1988. Now
almost twenty years on, Domino have reissued the release with a huge
amount of supplementary material recorded contemporaneously with the album
and in the same DIY spirit. Barlow had embarked upon this cassette
recording odyssey towards the end of his time with Dinosaur Jr, and Gaffney
(a radio DJ and pizza delivery boy at the time) upon hearing the tapes
realised how special they were and the two set about making recordings
both separately and collaboratively. It's worth remembering that this
was all way before the term lo-fi started getting bandied about in the
music press, and long before scratchy old home recordings became the
par for the course in American songwriting. The sketches and snatches of
out-and-about recordings that make up The Freed Man hold a wealth of
magnificent indie songwriting, and it seems incredible that in the final
phases of Dinosaur Jr Barlow was reticent in offering his compositions
up for the band. Songs like 'Healthy Sick' and 'Bolder' show the
makings of the great songwriter Barlow was to become, and Gaffney's
contributions are every bit as good: 'Julienne' in particular is an astounding
piece of bedroom recording, comprising guitar, voice and some unexpected
bell chimes - it's one of the least lo-fi songs here in fact, although
the recording remains uncompromisingly intimate. The material ranges
from this order of intimate sincerity to the downright comical: check
out the drum machine buffoonery of 'Lou's Rap' for some of Barlow's
knowingly dreadful flows. The earliest document here is Barlow's 'Punch In
The Nose', which dates back to 1981 and features a chipper brass motif
alongside a very different-sounding voice to the rich, warm tones we've
become accustomed to over the years. It's the inclusion of such raw,
uncensored glimpses into Sebadoh's genesis that confirms this reissue's
status as an indispensable item, for fans of the band and interested
newcomers alike. Excellent.) 18.50
SEPTEMBER/ TRUTH ABOUT ANGELS split LP (diy – two heavy bands from
Kanada in the vein KAOSPILOT – but more heavy and chaotic. Intense stuff on
this limited split LP from 1999) 10.00
SHELLAC Excellent Italian Greyhound LP (touch & go - Shellac present
their fourth full-length effort, which brings recording guru Steve
Albini's band back to its minimalist roots, with nine songs spanning over 42
minutes. Both the LP and CD come in a full-color gatefold cover with a
black and white, wrap-around outer sleeve. LP version includes a free
copy of the album on CD slipped into the record jacket but with no cover
of it's own.) 16.00
DIE YOUNG (TX) graven images LP (teenage disco bloodbath - Take the
enraged socio-political perspective of Trial, the bloodthirsty sonic
assault of Terror and Integrity, and top it off with the suicidal
determination of Black Flag and you have Die Young (TX). In less than four years
since the band's inception, Die Young (TX) has played nearly every
major city in continental North America (including cities in Alaska!), six
countries in Eastern Asia, select locations in Costa Rica and Puerto
Rico, and that is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come for
these nomadic punk warriors. Now available on colored vinyl.) 13.00
TRANZMITORS s/t 2007 LP (deranged - Formed in the winter of 2004, The
Tranzmitors came together to fill a much-overlooked void in the rock 'n'
roll scene in Vancouver, BC. Containing ex- and current members of The
Smugglers, The New Town Animals and The Parallels, the power pop combo
take their musical cues from bands like The Buzzcocks, The Undertones
and The Exploding Hearts. They've shared stages with The Clorox Girls,
The Spits, The Pointed Sticks and Fucked Up among others and have
released records that have won over the critics at Terminal Boredom,
Razorcake, Exclaim and Maximum Rockandroll magazines. Now available on vinyl.)

The GAULT - "Even As All Before Us" DLP (vat records - Now available on
vinyl! Deluxe, double lp in a gatefold sleeve with a patch!!! By now
everyone should be familiar with SF black metal legends Weakling. A
brief existence, a handful of shows, and a single amazing record (released
on Andee's tUMULt label, we should mention). Members of Weakling played
in and/or went on to play in Amber Asylum, the Champs, Drunk Horse,
Asunder, Sangre Amado, Saros and the short lived but now totally cult
blackened gothic doom outfit The Gault. Recorded way back in 1999 by Tim
Green, The Gault's Even As All Before Us languished for years before the
band finally agreed on a mix and a label, and now five years later
this mighty slab of depressive doom finally sees the light of day. Imagine
those Weakling riffs, slowed down and wrapped in dense '80s-ish
reverb, smeared and stretched into serpentine minor key melodies, throbbing
and pulsing and slithering through midtempo dronescapes of shimmering
guitar buzz, creeping basslines, ghostlike female vocals, crashing steady
drumming all cloaked in a rich blackened haze, suffocating and
claustrophobic, but somehow completely epic at the same time. Think a black
metal Joy Division and you might be close, due in no small part to
vocalist Ed Kunakemakorn's distinctive wail. Equal parts Ian Curtis,
Interpol's Paul Banks and weirdly enough, Dutch weirdo black metallers Urfaust,
a soaring mournful croon, rich and velvety and quite haunting. Each
track is a twisting complex doomscape of fuzzed out drones, pounding
downtuned riffage, swirling psychedelic ambience, slow motion crawl and
creep, building and building into massive black swells. A gorgeously
creepy collection of heaving, lurching, dark and delicate, doomy and dense
epics. So emotional and so totally and completely intense! (aquarius))

VIOLENT MINDS Eyes Of Death LP (parts unknown - After two 7"s released
on My War Records ages ago, Philly/Toronto's Violent Minds returns with
another twelve tracks of ferocious early-mid '80s styled hardcore punk
with a bit of a street feel that brings to mind New York legends like
Life's Blood and The Abused.) 12.00
ZACH HILL & MICK BARR "Volume 2" LP (rock is hell - Who could possibly
be a match for Mick Barr's (Crom-Tech, Orthrelm, Octis, Ocrilm) insane
avant sci-fi guitar shredding? We would have thought no one... But it
makes sense, that the only true match for Barr's fretboard wiggery would
be Zach Hill, a sort of Yngwie Malmsteen of the drum kit. A spastic
octopoidal drum freak, who can cram a million more beats into a song than
the busiest drummer you can think of. Not sure why no one thought of
getting these guys together sooner. Their first meeting took place on
last year's Shred Earthship, and now we have ZH/MB Volume 2. And the
results, much like on Shred Earthship are just what you would have
expected. A mind blowing, ear shredding, speaker melting squiggle and noodle
shredfest. Dense squalls of wildly dueling drum splatter and guitar
freakout. Often note for note. Is it free jazz? Is it avant metal? Is it
outrageous instrumental wankery? Well yeah, it sort of is, ALL of those.
Ultra complex, incredibly convoluted, might be a stretch to call these
songs, instead they seem to be exercises in instrumental dexterity, each
one an over the top psychedelic metal freakout that has the listener
panting and about to pass out after only thirty seconds, lord knows how
these guys can keep it up for a whole record. The opener is the
jazziest, due in no small part to some surprisingly melodic sax, but after
that, it's one on one, drums vs. guitar, each wrapped around the other in
some sort of insane ultimate fighting chokehold, a non stop barrage of
notes and beats... imagine that someone had been collecting every note
ever played, and every drum beat, and just piling them up in a huge
dumpster, they're tiny, they don't take up that much room, but a trillion,
or a million billion trillion, have that dumpster just about full. Now
imagine being strapped down to a huge slab of black concrete, with
strange metallic implements holding your ears wide open, then imagine that
entire dumpster being upended and all of those notes and beats
showering down on you like some sort of musical avalanche or metallic
hailstorm. Sound good? Well then, my friend, this is indeed the record for
you...
Packaged in killer white cloud on bright yellow sleeves, most are on
black vinyl, a few are on yellow, so you might just get lucky. But don't
ask, we said: YOU. MIGHT. GET. LUCKY.

more.) 13.50

FEAR FALLS BURNING / NADJA split CD (conspiracy - On their first
full-length collaboration CD Fear Falls Burning and Nadja display their
wilful approach to drones with 4 epic songs, full of sustain, pulses and
dynamics. Grand in theme, sound and atmosphere. This album draws
inspiration from their critically-acclaimed lp for Conspiracy Records while
pushing the boundaries on their sound as an entity. This album entirely
consists of new material. Limited to 1000 copies, in digipak.) 12.50
NEUROSIS given the rising CD (neurot - "Given To The Rising" is both
reflective of the aggressive pummeling for which Neurosis is known, as
well as an exploration into psychoactive prog-rock and eviscerating
symphonic heft that moves well beyond what has become recognizable as the
"Neurosis Note.") 16.00
PELICAN city of echoes CD (hydra head - Pelican's third full-length
sees the band shortening the tracks and adding a bit of a pop/rock feel,
shattering all expectations and continuing to explore what can be
accomplished by playing purely instrumental heavy rock.) 15.00
WOODS at rear house CD (shrimper - Woods' second album shows marked
improvement in their songwriting and instrumentation, not just leaving
their songs to simple guitar and weird singing, but fleshing them out more
and bringing out better hooks. With a fuller sound, their high pitched
goblin voices sound a lot less like outsider oddness and more like
junk shop TV on the Radio, perhaps this time chosing old school Sebadoh to
cover instead of the Pixies. The songs are so solid, the band can no
longer be held down by cassette culture - their limited-to-100 Fuck It
tape version of the album already sold out with CD version just released
on Shrimper and LP version shortly forthcoming on Woodsist (the vinyl
arm of Fuck It Tapes).) 12.00

picture it, is he goes around with a tape recorder trying to document
the (un)familiar world. I've never met him, but I imagine this house is
covered from floor to ceiling, and wall-to-wall with cassettes.
Non-Horse uses field recordings, tape loops, tape manipulation, circuit

GHOSTLIMB s/t 12“ 10,00
One sided 12“ with etching on the b-side, silkscreened covers and
inlays limited to 500 copies.
Ghostlimb is the brainchild of Graf Orlock's main songwriter and
riffmonger Justin Smith and these eleven songs make up their debut release.
The songs are less grind than those of Graf with more of a Catharsis,
Swallowing Shit, and His Hero Is Gone influence and the band has toured
up and down the west coast alongside groups like Owen Hart and
Greyskull.

AMPERE/ DAITRO split picture 7" (clean plate/ pure pain sugar - Two new
songs by Ampere and one by Daitro, featuring artwork by Nate Powell,
this is a hard-hitting international team-up! An international pairing
of epic proportions, Ampere delivers two new songs with their signature
feverish intensity, squeezing as much detail and dynamics as they can
into their frantic bursts of emotive hardcore. Daitro carries the other
side with a single longer track of brooding melodic heaviness in the
way that only French hardcore really can, beautiful and desperate
sounding, crashing with melody and passionate anger. With exquisite cover and
picture disc art drawn by renowned artist Nate Powell the package is
made complete. A record not to be missed!) 5.00
Defiance, Ohio/Environmental Youth Crunch split 7" (dead tank - Born to
be sharing some wax, these 2 bands hop skip and jump along with some
rocking folk punk! Songs addressing beer, record collecting, fortunate
sons and more. Full of everything great you’ve come to expect from both
these bands!) 4.00
NO AGE 7“ (ppm - Two parts of Wives make up this new group. Not perfect
in the normal sense, but perfect in the sense that they think it is.
Pretty and ugly meet somewhere in the middle of punk and art. You will
see very soon. One guy broke his neck and had brain surgery, and the
other guy got in a car accident and got a lot of money, it kinda sounds
like that. THIS IS A DIFFERENT RECORD THEN THIS ONE ON YOUTH ATTACK) 4.50
SCIENCE OF YABRA/ OLD GROWTH split 7" (dead tank - Old Growth and
Science of Yabra may be two very different bands, but together they make for
quite a solid little split tour 7". Old Growth's vocalist oddly
reminds me of a young Kevin Devine, with the band playing two straight-ahead,
punk-inflected rock tunes that are a little more down-home than
Miracle of 86. There's an honest, lovesick quality to the singer's voice and
yet the music stays driving in "Taste the Rain," while "Brother Boy"
sounds like a lost Jawbreaker instrumental. On the other side, Science of
Yabra offer one mere tune, but "Reunion Machine" is a raucous one,
with bouncing, slammed post-hardcore riffs á la Drive Like Jehu. This
little seven-inch may be nothing to start blowing bits of brains apart
with but it's certainly a worthy souvenir if you happen to catch either
band on tour.) 4.00
LP
THE BEAT BUTTONS s/t LP (bakery outlet - Ex-members of Argentina and
Slang come together like Voltron to form Gainesville, FL's Beat Buttons.
The bass and drums drive hard to keep you dancing, while the guitar
and vocals mimic each other with melodies that will hold you long after
the cd is over. The Beat Buttons succeed in the same way a band like
Weezer does (or did)--making complex, well-thought out pop songs that
sound simple and effortless. I heard someone say that Alex Lopez
(vocals/guitar) writes "children's songs for adults," and I think he does. The
songs are so natural and memorable, you feel as though you've known them
forever. – Lenny) 10.50
DES ARK Loose Lips Sink Ships LP (bakery outlet - Des Ark, on this
recording, is a two piece rock band from Durham, NC. Aimee plays some of
the most kingshit guitar I've ever seen - someone you watch trying to
figure out what she's doing to produce the brilliance coming out of her
amp while projecting this piercing melody full of deeply commanding
sentiment and marching all over the place, all in one fluid movement. Tim
anchors with drums that don't compete, but are felt by how hard he
calculates the beat. It all drives and pauses and changes direction and
then gets to the point. Lucky for us fans, Des Ark continues now through
Aimee and who knows who in the future, but the chemistry on this
record is surely one of the things that makes this quite an important one.
–Rich) 10.50
DOOMRIDERS vs BORIS "Long Hair & Tights" LP (daymare records - Mighty
BORIS and DOOMRIDERS toured together in US October 2006, those tracks
were recorded by Atsuo (BORIS) himself and mixed shortly after. This is
also very first official release from DOOMRIDERS since they got new
drummer JR. Artwork is done by Fangsanalsatan, infamous JUDAS PRIEST
Screaming For Vengence as well as JP live rip off cover image… All the music
is completely unreleased and not to be released as CD or anywhere else.

Environmental Youth Crunch "Let's Ride" LP (dead tank – THIS THEIR NEW
ALBUM. If you ever wanted a less folky This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb writing
songs exclusively about wetland preservation, singing frogs, and
“female fish growing dicks” (seriously!), this is the band for you. If
you’re into taking Cleveland Bound Death Sentence’s genius song “Rumbleseats
and Running Boards” and turning it into a slow song about
environmental destruction, this is the band for you. If you’re Maddy Tight Pants,
you really want to like some of this stuff, but you end up listening to
the Marked Men instead. If this were a cereal, it’d be something
“natural,” and instead of some super cool laser sugar ring in the bottom of
the box, there’d be a LP of spoken word environmental) 10.00

NEUROSIS Given To The Rising DLP (neurot – NOTE: we have opened a bunch
of them and they are colored – we don´t know if every record comes in
clear wax – if you want to make sure we can open the sealed record for
you before shipping!
'Given To The Rising' is a career landmark album for a band who have
influenced and inspired a new generation, including Isis, Mastodon,
Sepultura and Cult Of Luna, to name a few. This is some of Neurosis' most
raw and immediate material to date, it is also more complexly
orchestrated than their past works and richly thickened with psych-damaged
overtones. 'Given To The Rising' is more than a just a powerful collection of
songs -- it's like a religious experience. While personal epiphanies
are repeatedly told by those who've been converted by Neurosis' sensory
overloading live shows as well as their recordings, there's a hypnotic
quality to this album that takes hold from the opening wail of guitars
on track one. "We stand encircled by wing and fire" growls
vocalist/guitarist Scott Kelly in the opening of the album, the band's heels already
dug deep in the dirt blasting forth in all directions at once. The
guitars grunt and groan like sinister beasts on "Fear and Sickness",
propelled by drummer Jason Roeder's clever rhythmic shifts delivered by
thunderous, rollicking tom beats that lunge into half-time thumping kick
drum and snare blasts. "To The Wind" opens with a deceptively delicate,
albeit forlorn melody unlike anything we've come to expect from the
band, this is abruptly choked off at the two-minute mark by one of the most
brutally sudden shifts of mood and tempo. A slight, barely audible
growl hints at the change to come, and when a wall of chiming bent-notes
and drop-tuned sludge guitars - paired with a stomping beat - erupt over
the melody it's a truly monolithic impact. Bassist Dave Edwardson
slings heavy low-end distortion over the top with howling bent notes adding
powerful harmonic overtones. But, perhaps the highlight of the song
comes during a brief respite, when Kelly lets out an astounding
29-second-long throat-curdling scream at the song's climax. Steve Von Till's
rasping whisper sounds downright haunting over the rhythmic churn and
keyboardist Noah Landis' syrupy tones on "Hidden Faces" prove ample
evidence to the band's latest evolutionary step. "Through eyes of the wheel I
will see you coming," Von Till howls, the band erupting in consensus.)

PANDA BEAR - Person Pitch DLP (paw tracks - LIMITED VINYL EDITION - NOW
IN STOCK!!!!!! Now where the hell can I start with an album like this?
You've probably already seen the hype; after leaking a few months back
the blogs have been alight with rampant praise and in a real turn up
for the books, this is an album that actually deserves every accolade
lavished upon it. Now I won't lie to you, I'm not a huge fan of the
Animal Collective - I appreciate what they're doing and the success they've
had (they're now signed to Domino for goodness sake...) but it's never
really done it for me. 'Person Pitch' however is a different barrel of
frogs altogether, here is where Noah Lennox has ditched the animal
masks, the theatre and the bravado and come up with an album that actually
lives up to the promises we've had thrust in our face year-in-year-out
and an album that perfectly represents the alternative music scene in
2007. That's some claim I know, but Lennox has managed to submerge so
many disparate influences into a coherent record of what could easily be
mistaken for pop I can only think that it would have been impossible to
record at any other time in history. That's not something I can say
about most albums that fall my way for review, and I'm not trying to say
'Person Pitch' is devastatingly original, rather that Panda Bear has
done what so many other fail to do; take an encyclopaedic musical
knowledge and translate that into genuinely great fresh compositions...) 15.00

creative songcrafting of Twelve Hour Turn with the honesty and youthful

new music that is accompanied by thoughtful, poignant lyrics. Just
plain awesome! For fans of rooted vegetables, frontside airs, and Florida
