BIS AUFS MESSER news ( KTL, TORCHE 10", HIGH ON FIRE )

Beitrag von vendetta »

Hey kids,
Another newsletter coming off the desks of your favorite joydealers?
We will celebrate the first birthday of BIS AUFS MESSER this week, and want to say thank you to all you people out there, who stopped by, shopped, ordered, said something nice, took care, THANK YOU !

Let?s start with the label-news:

In an joint venture adagio830 and vendetta just released the:

FUNERAL DINER ?doors open? 12?
This is the final FUNERAL DINER recording that came out as a limited CD for the JAPAN tour this spring. Funeral Diner get back to their roots. The songs on this EP may not be as epic as the material on The Underdark but for the first time Funeral Diner have created some new sounds to this band that are fresh to the ears. 5 songs w/ wonderful melodies on the A side and a beautiful etching on the B-side. Some of their best songs that got ever written

ADAGIO830 records just released:

GLÖS ?harmonium? lp 10,00
Glös started as Keeley Davis (former frontman of Engine Down and bass/synth player for Denali and currently Sparta) and Cornbread Compton (former drummer of Engine Down, Biology, and currently Heavens). Many years of playing in Engine Down together proved the duo had a naturally unique style of meshing melody and rhythm. When the discovery of song creation on computers became a reality, the two found strength and freedom in writing separately and then collaborating. Adding to each other's songs as if they were created mutually in the same room was natural and noticeable.

The recordings for the upcoming DAITRO / SED NON SATIATA split lp ( adagio830 records ) got sent to the pressing plant today, the same happened to the recordings for the MINION ?out of the carnage; let me back in? LP ( vendetta ); for the minion lp there will be a preorder edition, which we will announce soon

Enough of talking, here?s the distro-newslist, thank you for reading:

here we go

7?

411 say it 7" (headhunter - Debut single from this popular OC Hardcore band featuring Dan O from No For An Answer on vocals and Kevin Murphy from Headfirst and Farside on guitar. Features one song that didn't make it to the album. Dave Smalley on back up vocals.) 4.50

ARTIMUS PYLE tonight is the end of your way 7" ( too circle records - great dark hardcore from San Francisco / USA. The band released two LPs on Prank and some other killer seveninches. This EP contains 4 songs recorded in famous Our House studio in March 2006 during their Japan tour. Expect explosive hardcore in the spirit of His Hero Is Gone and in the last song there are some screamed vocals by singer of legendary japanese Crow.) 3.50

BURNT BY THE SUN / CAR BOMB - split 7" (relapse - Killer split 7-inch from two of the East Coast's most amazing practitioners of modern grind/metal/hardcore. Features BBTS's "Goliath", their first new material released in 3 years, and Car Bomb mangles minds once again with "M6" and "Pieces Of You".) 5.50

COALESCE Salt And Passage 7" (second nature - Marking Coalesce's triumphant return to the studio, "Salt and Passage" is less distorted than previous efforts, yet retains the innovative, technical riffage and signature howl that have characterized the band since their inception over 13 years ago. Comes in a gatefold cover and is on colored vinyl.) 5.00

Matthew Hatie Hein / Sarah Dougher split 7" (jealous butcher - Sarah plays 2 lovely little pop gems "mirror/shield" & "my pal" with the help of her guitar, farfisa organ and diva voice. Matthew heralds in the new year with a tribute to parties, "thanks it's nice" and a sultry casiotone love ballad, "no. 1".) 5.00

OLDE GHOST totally 7" (rok lok/ handstand - The debut recording from this five-piece New York powerhouse is OUT NOW! Boasting ex-members of Books Lie, The Fiction, Your Adversary, Yum Yum Tree, and Excitebike, this sweaty rock unit is taking the eastern seaboard by storm. Five songs of high-octane punk on a rock'n' roll tip. Recommended for fans of Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Rye Coalition, Poison Idea, and Transistor Transistor. Features totally awesome two-color jackets hand-screened by the band. 500 copies) 4.00

REGULATIONS Different Needs 7" (havoc - The first release since their wildly successful tours of the US and Canada, "Different Needs" is another four tracks of early-'80s Los Angeles punk-influenced hardcore from this Swedish foursome who boast former members of ETA and DS-13.) 4.50

10?

PELICAN Pink Mammoth 10" (hydra head ? Some copies back in stock. This 10" single combines a new version of the song "Mammoth" (now called "Pink Mammoth") and a remix of the song "End Of Seasons" by Prefuse 73. The record comes packaged in a hard, full-cover sleeve and full-cover hard stock dust sleeve. We got black, pink w/ black, pink w/ 3 colors, pink w/ purple, pink w/ red wax ... ist up to you. Limited of course) 16.50

TORCHE in return 10"/CD (colored) (robotic empire - This monstrous, seven-song, 20-minute EP pushes the Torche's (ex-Floor) musical extremes even further as the "poppy" songs are far more catchy, and the "heavy" songs are infinitely more crushing. The band continues to explore every side of their multi-faceted personas, presenting their darkest, heaviest and most infectious work to date. "In Return" is also Robotic Empire's most obsessively ridiculous packaging yet; a beautiful full-color John Baizley design as a gatefold 10-inch jacket with a printed innersleeve and a die-cut on the inside front cover that holds the companion CD in place, all housed in a thick mylar bag with a two-color sticker. This deluxe colored vinyl comes with a musically-identical CD counterpart.) 18.00

LP

411 this isn't me LP (headhunter - this record came w/ me on mostly every trip I did during the summer ? I'm glad to get some copies to save your summer. If you love DAG NASTY and all those great bands ? you can't live w/ out that LP. And by the way this is Mario Rubalcaba's (clikitata ikatowi, black heart procession hot snakes etc) first band ... this is awesome) 11.50

ADRIAN ORANGE AND HER BAND same LP (k ? records. This self-titled release could be considered Adrian Orange's first ?deliberate? album. After touring the country in 2006 with a massive band in two vans (including children and horn players and official dancers) and inventing a new kind of music and living, the band re-materialized in Dub Narcotic Studio in February 2007. This - the finest group of groove-wailing, wave tearing musicians Orange could find - descended on Olympia in droves from Portland and Anacortes. The studio is an amazing collection of equipment from an era when recordings were made live, everything happening on the spot, which was perfect for this new kind of tidal wave. It?s the perfect combination of beautiful accident and deliberate symphony. The end vibe: upbeat and dancy with a hint of lost hippy in a bi-mart parking lot. This will probably be the last cohesive album of songs by this artist. It is in the process of vanishing in to the all, the beautiful unknown; where obscurely we-will-lay, willie, like lillys or be gulls, indefinit ly. So get in, get out.) 16.00

AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED / APARTMENT 213 Domestic Powerviolence LP (relapse - Relapse's premier digi-grind terrorists Agoraphobic Nosebleed team up with the recently reformed Cleveland powerviolence cretins Apartment 213 on this long awaited split release.) 16.00

BLACK MONK Flowstone LP (not not fun - Flowstoned and dethroned, finally. Last year?s bored/burning summer spell of Eagle Rock entropy birthed a numb drum ?n drones duo dubbed Black Monk. The aesthetic of inept, free-punk drumming and red-eyed, void-surfing low-end infinity found output on two micro-limited cassette releases (one on Buried Valley, one on Zac/Lambsbread?s Maim & Disfigure) and one weedian live show (in Tempe, AZ) and then the scholars split to separate coasts. Fortunately for us/you, Flowstone comes crawling outta the caverns of a babeless summer on a slab of black wax, collecting their out-of-print Murmur CS and half the V CS, plus an unreleased side-long wastoid-land of subterranean percussion and roaring magma. Just in time for 2012. Black vinyl LPs in stark pro-printed fold-over covers plus a poster of arcane team scribble by BM. Limited to 270.) 13.50

B.SON ( BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS ) same LP (vendetta ? REPRESSED. 3 songs ( about 45 minutes ) of massive doom, think khanate meets corrupted, mastered by JAMES PLOTKIN ( old lady drivers, khanate, phantomsmasher )) 10.00

CIRCLE katapult LP (no quarter - Limited vinyl version. Circle from Finland are one of the leading psych-rock bands playing today, releasing records and touring for over a decade now. ?Katapult? is perhaps their most dark and primitive album to date. Founding member Jussi Lehtisalo handles the majority of vocals duties with a gruff, low-end growl. The music is heavy and atmospheric with repetitive riffs and haunted keyboards which create a twisted, spooky mood. Influenced by equal parts 60?s psychadelia and Venom - ?Katapult? is perhaps the most diverse and groundbreaking Circle album yet.) 16.50

DIMITRIJ words - objects LP (noise appeal - The first full length release from these new band from Austria. Intense as fuck hardcore. Noisy, screamy, melodic, catchy, passionate. One of the best releases this year, hands down. stolen from yummy records - but I have to agree ... good stuff) 10.50

FALL OF EFRAFA elil 2xLP (various labels - Epic crust metal beautiful gatefold cover w/ an etching as well. Well done) 15.00

FUNERAL DINER doors open 12? (adagio830/ vendetta ? XMESSERX - This is the final FUNERAL DINER recording that came out as a limited CD for the JAPAN tour this spring. Some of their best songs that got ever written - This 12" is limited to 600 copies and don?t get repressed) 10.00

GLOS Harmonium LP (adagio830/ lovitt - Glos started as Keeley Davis (former front man of Engine Down and bass/synth player for Denali) and Cornbread Compton (former drummer of Engine Down, Biology, and currently Heavens). Using their laptops to create songs, the duo found strength and freedom in writing separately and then collaborating; adding to each other's songs as if they were created mutually in the same room was natural and noticeable. After collaborating on over 20 songs and having never physically played the songs together in a rehearsal environment, the duo decided to take even more advantage of the freedom that this style of writing offered. They invited Keeley's sister Maura Davis (former front-woman of Denali) to join the project and to add her beautiful, sultry vocals to the songs that already seemed perfect for her. If it weren't for the internet, none of the songs would have grown into the theatrical landscapes that they have become, since each member was working on different projects full-time in Texas, California, Virginia, North Carolina, and Illinois. After two years of writing and refining, Glos has its first album entitled "Harmonium." Mailorder gets limited colored vinyl) 10.00

GOOD LIFE, the Help Wanted Nights LP (saddle creek - This Omaha, Nebraska quartet, featuring Tim Kasher of Cursive on vocals, plays a much darker brand of music than Cursive, stringing together ten tracks of intimate indie rock with hushed vocals, reverb-driven guitars and washed out cymbals. The vinyl version includes a code for a free MP3 download of this album.) 15.00

GRAVENHURST the western lands LP (warp - Gravenhurst are in fine fettle on The Western Lands, having expanded their sound considerably from their glum folksy beginnings. 'Saints' is a tempered enough beginning, presenting a slowly escalating space rock motif, providing a quietly brooding bedrock for Nick Talbot's soft, echoing vocal. From there on the album quickly accumulates force, with the discordant kraut-ish beginnings of 'She Dances' morphing into an oddly gothic piece of folk rock. 'Hollow Men' is given a further injection of guitar noise, setting power chord riffing and squealing feedback against Talbot's paradoxically calm vocal. After the atmospheric acoustics of the excellent 'Song Among The Pine', recent single 'Trust' provides a happy medium between the band's varying degrees of rock and non-rock, plumping for some pretty top drawer nu-gaze, a theme continued by the scuzzy abrasion of 'Farewell, Farewell'. It's actually quite fatiguing having to mention Kevin Shields in every other record review nowadays, but sure enough, the spirit of My Bloody Valentine haunts much of this record. Who knows when the shoegaze revival is going to collapse in on itself (frankly, I'm hoping for sooner rather than later) but until then The Western Lands lays claim to being one of the finer releases in its canon. Recommended.) 18.00

HIGH ON FIRE Death Is This Communion LP (relapse - High On Fire's colossal sound returns on "Death Is This Communion," with Matt Pike's unmistakable guitar playing and throaty war cry leading the charge, while Del Kensel's massive drumming takes on a new life and pushes the beast onward more urgently than ever.) 16.50

HIRAX assassins of war LP (fast & furious records - Brandnew release ! Originators of thrash metal crossover music are back with five song mini album. First new recordings in three years. More than any other Hirax record Assassins of War takes you on a thrash metal journey and gives you a sound of the band like you have never heard before. The disc includes the devastating hit "Lucifer's Inferno" chosen by Metal Maniacs Magazine as pick of the week. Fans of the band will chew off their own faces to get their skulls on this shit. Assassins Of War is certain to enhance Hirax' already stellar reputation. The South California's quintet never disappoints.) 11.00

HUSH ARBORS since we have fallen LP (harvest records - "Quite possibly one of the nicest lp packages we have seen. Definitely top 10. Hard to even know how to describe it. You sort of have to hold int and unfold it and feel the texture and the heft. Wow. Thick textured cardstock, fastened all over with black rivets, the whole thing embossed and letterpressed with black ink, abstract designs and very classy looking calligraphy, the back is die cut about half way down, so it opens like a barn door, split down the middle, held shut by black string, once opened, it reveals the 180 gram lp nestled inside as well as still more embossed design and text. So gorgeous. And the music is definitely deserving of such over the top extra attention. A reissue of a long out of print cd-r, Hush Arbors explore a dark murky side of their soul, a drifting cloudy otherworld of soft freefolk bliss, flecked with all manner of detuned guitars, warped melodies, creaking percussive clatter, shimmery effervescence, but with a definite ominous edge, a lo-fi Third eye Foundation recording for Siltbreeze maybe? But with more twang, and more shuffle, and more delicate dreaminess. So nice. An essential dreamfolk / free folk / folknoise / dronetwang artifact beautifully preserved and offered up again for a very limited time." Ltd to 500) 15.00

IRON AND WINE The Shepherd's Dog LP (sub pop - Iron And Wine's most ambitious and accomplished recording to date, and also the most satisfying. While many of us learned of Iron And Wine by way of the tender and spare rendering of The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" on the "Garden State" soundtrack, those who dug deeper discovered a classic American tunesmith with a precocious musical signature. This whole album breathes. Its seductive rhythms percolate and undulate. "The Shepherd's Dog" is informed by a sensuality that brings a dreamscape to life.) 16.00

JUNE PAIK/ TITAN split LP (react w/ protest - this has two new tracks of germanys JUNE PAIK with a playtime of more then 15 minutes ! this is even heavier then their 12" but it still has the emoviolent edge! TITAN are hailing from canada and that s how they sound - epic destructive hardcore in the vein of buried inside or union of uranus - 1 track , over 9 minutes!) 10.00

KTL - KTL3 LP (touch records - Limited Edition Vinyl only. One-sided heavyweight vinyl + etching by Savage Pencil [SAVX] Packaged in a tip-on style outer sleeve, heavyweight inner sleeve and sticker - KTL are Stephen O?Malley [Sunn O))), Khanate] & Peter Rehberg [Pita, eMego, mimeo] The third part of accompaniments created for the theatre piece ?Kindertotenlieder? by Gisele Vienne and Dennis Cooper, which was premiered in Brest, France, March 2007.Perhaps the broadest bulletin from the duo of Stephen O'Malley and Peter Rehberg featuring 2 contrasting tracks. The layered dementia bliss of 'Loud Game' counterbalances the fried dub of 'Sunday'.) 17.00

KTL ( KINDER TOTEN LIEDER ) two 2xLP (thrill jockey - The vinyl version of 2 is limited to 1,500 copies for the world and is presented in an old-style tip-on gatefold jacket with art-worked innersleeves. The 2xLP is pressed on 180 gram vinyl. A truly heavy collaboration. KTL is Stephen O?Malley (SUNNO))), Khanate) and Peter Rehberg (PITA) - a threatening collaboration taking in parallel worlds of Extreme Computer Music and Black Metal. 2 is the devastatingly beautiful four part follow up to the acclaimed self-titled debut and was recorded in a former abattoir in Angers, as well as a 16th Century manor in the extreme west of France. Taking the blueprint that was laid out on the first record even further, with the ecstatic build up of ?Theme?, the near psychedelic ?Abattoir?, and closing with the twisted romanticism of ?Snow 2?. An upgrade both artistically and emotionaly. As with the first album, elements appeared in the finished version of the theatre piece ?Kindertotenlieder? by Gisele Vienne and Dennis Cooper, which was premiered in Brest, France, in March 2007. Stephen O?Malley (SOMA) is a musician currently based in Paris, France. He started the band SunnO))) with Greg Anderson in addition to playing in the groups Khanate, Burning Witch, Ginnunngagap, Æthenor, Grave Temple, and Lotus Eaters. He has collaborated with Merzbow, Julian Cope, Joe Preston, Attila Csihar, Lee Dorrian, Aaron Turner, Oren Ambarchi, Malefic, Wrest, Boris, Earth, and Z?EV. He is also a well respected graphic designer and does artwork and album covers for most of his own projects. Peter Rehberg is an author and performer of electronic audio works based in Vienna, Austria. He has collaborated live and in the studio with Russell Haswell, Florian Hecker, Jim O?Rourke, Christian Fennesz, Stephen O?Malley (as KTL), Z?EV, Tujiko Noriko, Kevin Drumm, Carlos Giffoni, Mika Vainio, Zbigniew Karkowski, Rosy Parlane, Keith Rowe, Gert-Jan Prins, Marcus Schmickler, Dennis Cooper, Jade, SUNNO))), Lasse Marhaug as well as being a member of MIMEO. He also opertates the Editions Mego label) 19.00

MENEGUAR strangers in our house LP (release the bats - Hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed debut, "I Was Born At Night", Meneguar are taking their sound to the next level, incorporating more solid song structures and intricate melodies. "The band's sound pits rabid guitars playing off each other with the intensity of a knife fight, always-effective group singing, swaying bass lines, and drums that roll more often than a soccer mom in a Chevy Tahoe...it would fit perfectly at some hipster deejay night, a road trip, a barbecue - it would even make a great soundtrack to wash your car to...This is movie-montage music" - prefixmag.com. - ltd to 525 copies) 11.50

MICHAEL CASHMORE / ANTONY HEGARTY - The Snow Abides LP (durtro - How's this for a pairing then? In the one corner we've got Michael Cashmore (a central axis to the Current 93 aesthetic), whilst in the other there's Antony Hegarty - here offering up his first real new material since 2005's Mercury award-winning 'I Am A Bird Now'. As delicate and otherworldly as you could possibly hope for, 'Snow Abides' certainly shares its scope and heritage with the breathtaking beauty of 'Soft Black Stars', as layered arpeggios and wispy melodies fuse around Hegarty's instantly recongisable voice for a series of songs which perch on the very cusp of melancholic frission. Opening through 'My Eyes Open', Cashmore introduces a considered piano melody that ebbs and flows with real muscularity; before some swelling strings envelop the melody and spin the whole composition off into truly epic territory. Quite in contrast to the minimal instrumentation that can sometimes make Cashmore's work chilly to those unfamiliar with his work, 'My Eyes Open' is a lush and consuming introduction that also acts as a clean juxtaposition to the following pieces and their focus on Hegarty's gravity defying larynx. Weaved intricately amongst the piquant ivories and translucent strings, Hegarty brings to life the words of David Tibet's poetry with astonishing ease given the lexical complexity that he is often faced with. Emotionally tacit throughout, the title track is a masterclass in controlled expression - with Hegarty matching the swooping grandeur of the backdrop through vocals that are suitably expressive, but nicely tapered. From here, 'How God Moved At Twilight' blends piano, flute and clarinet into the kind of thoroughly moving song which would raise a tear in all but the most cold-hearted, whilst 'Your Eyes Close' is a delicious dissertation on the hinterland between sleep and awake that incorporates its themes of lost innocent to perfection. Closing on the echoing thaw of 'Snow No Longer', the EP ends with pristine clarity and suggests that the Hegarty, Cashmore, Tibet triptych is one which we'll be seeing much more of in the future.) 17.00

MIRAH AND SPECTRATONE INTERNATIONAL - Share This Place .. LP (K ? records. Lori Goldston and Kyle Hanson of Black Cat Orchestra team up with K Records recording artist Mirah to deliver a sweeping song cycle inspired by the epic complexity and tragic and triumphant lives of insects, touching on themes of villainy, seduction, self-sacrifice, and love. Along with Goldston and Hanson's trademark cello and accordion, Spectratone's hybrid sound wanders easily through a range of influences, from early music to folk to psychedelia. Layered with their lush, meticulous tones are Mirah's ravishingly intimate vocals, recorded by producer Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Soundgarden) and Phil Elvrum (The Microphones).) 16.00

MONO gone 3xLP (temporary residence - Collecting all of MONO's rare and out-of-print non-album tracks, Gone perfectly (and chronologically) displays their astounding growth, from the modest opening notes of "Finlandia" to the scorched finale of "Little Boy (1945-Future)." These tracks are culled from a series of highly sought-after releases, including the Japanese-only debut Hey, You. EP, their split LP with Pelican, the Cameron Crowe-commissioned Memorie dal Futuro vinyl 10", and The Phoenix Tree, their out-of-print EP for the storied Travels In Constants series. All tracks have been beautifully remastered from their original master tapes, with both CD and 3xLP formats boasting absurdly beautiful deluxe packaging.) 26.00

NORFOLK & WESTERN the unsung colony LP (jealous butcher - Opening with the sound of film threading into a projector, "The Longest Stare" announces the record with a resounding and intimate descending chord progression. It draws the listener into the melody and story, carrying them along an accelerating river to the thunderous finale. The verses are turned out like scenes, with close-ups, cuts, and deft pacing, eventually unfolding into a panorama, if only for a moment, before too much information is revealed. From embers to wildfire, from a drip to a deluge, Norfolk & Western is telling a story of metamorphosis: both fictive and biographical. The musical spectrum is wide and enthralling. It's intimate and challenging.) 16.00

PINBACK Autumn Of The Seraphs LP (touch & go - Comprised of two members whose previous projects include Three Mile Pilot and Heavy Vegetable, San Diego's Pinback present their second full-length for Touch And Go, pushing forward with more dynamic and aggressive melodies and tighter and more immediate drumming, with drum duties being shared by Mario Rubalcaba (Clikatat Ikatowi, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes, Black Heart Procession) and Chris Prescott (No Knife). LP includes a coupon for a free download of the entire album in MP3 format plus bonus MP3s of 3 tracks not included on the album.) 15.00

PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT - Gamelan Into The Mink Supernatural Lp (no quarter - Limited vinyl pressing of the speaker-melting debut album. The Psychic Paramount play heavy, wall of sound psych-rock. Founded in 2003 by Drew St. Ivany and Ben Armstrong, both of the late, great Laddio Bolocko and filled out with the addition of Jeff Conaway (formerly of Sabers) the group has toured with Acid Mothers Temple, Trans Am and Whitehouse. Expect a new record in January 2008. ?One of this decades finest albums, a cyclone in an era of faint breezes? ? SF Weekly.) 16.50

RED SPAROWES "At The Soundless Dawn" DLP (robotic empire - Tasteful use of space can be a rarity in modern instrumental music. Los Angeles' RED SPAROWES debut with "At The Soundless Dawn", a massive album with unconventional approaches to creating aural landscapes that prove not only tasteful, but downright outstanding. With generous hints to shoegazing's glorious past, their subtle use of reverberating guitars not only echoes the west coast's comforting distance of surf rock, but also helps the band fluidly transfer into darker passages that flow more like orchestral movements than modern rock songs. Their softer moments resonate in dream-like sequences that drift convincingly into heavier explosions, dismissing the predictable build-ups standardized by many bands of their ilk. It seems that no matter what pace they are playing, RED SPAROWES' music is always in motion... and with alumni from both NEUROSIS and ISIS on board it's not exactly a huge surprise. "At The Soundless Dawn" is seven-track, double-LP album and comes housed in a stunning gatefold jacket, helping make this nothing short of a phenomenal debut.) 19.00

RETALIATION the execution LP ( fast & furious records - This is unadulterated grind from the early NAPALM DEATH school of insanity. Each track is a barrage of artillery, owing to Jocke?s drumkit abuse while Henke unleashes a multitude of screams, both natural and sonically distorted.) 10.00

VIC CHESNUTT North Star Deserter DLP (constellation - Singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt teamed up with all of A Silver Mt. Zion, Guy Picciotto of Fugazi and Bruce Cawdron of Godspeed You! Black Emperor among others to deliver a finely crafted album of twelve masterful songs that range from hushed solo acoustic tracks to fully orchestrated numbers complete with A Silver Mt. Zion's entire string section.) 19.00

CD

BARONESS red album CD (relapse - Baroness expand upon the Savannah, GA sound that produced bands like Kylesa and Damad on "Red Album." These ten tracks showcase the band's heavy, powerful sound while maintaining their raw hardcore influence and metal riffs, blending together the sounds of bands like Tragedy, Mastodon, Isis, and High On Fire.) 13.50

hose.got.cable Discography 1992-1995 CD (cadillac flame - ?This band was phenomenal. Every time they played they broke their equipment and one of them ended up getting hurt?Chevy Chase, Motherfucker? is an out of control punk epic that shows their understanding of how to be intense and at the same time heavy without sounding metal. Bands like this don?t exist anymore because creativity doesn?t seem to be respected much in the punk community these days. For every DIY punk or hardcore record that comes out these days, I?d much rather sit and listen to hose.got.cable.? -Nate Newton of Converge and Doomriders from ?Law of Inertia? magazine) 11.00

PERTH EXPRESS discography CD (tdb records - Following in the path of bands like His Hero is Gone, Tragedy, Mastodon, and Baroness, Perth Express step the genre of down-tuned hardcore driven metal up to a new level of intensity and songwriting. This discography CD features the German band?s 12?, 10?, 7? and demo, all of which were previously unreleased in the States. The 23-track monster of a record is housed in a black recycled cardboard case with a hand silk-screened gold ink interior and folded insert. Without any exaggeration I can say this is without a doubt one of the most powerful and memorable metal/hardcore records released in the last decade.) 10.00

PINBACK Autumn Of The Seraphs CD (touch & go - Comprised of two members whose previous projects include Three Mile Pilot and Heavy Vegetable, San Diego's Pinback present their second full-length for Touch And Go, pushing forward with more dynamic and aggressive melodies and tighter and more immediate drumming, with drum duties being shared by Mario Rubalcaba (Clikatat Ikatowi, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes, Black Heart Procession) and Chris Prescott (No Knife). LP includes a coupon for a free download of the entire album in MP3 format plus bonus MP3s of 3 tracks not included on the album. CD comes with a bonus compact disc of 3 tracks not included on the album.) 15.00

POCAHAUNTED Emerald Snake on Ruby Velvet 3" CD-R (not not fun - Here?s the deal: despite all hoopla/wrath/rapture focusing on Pocahaunted?s feather headdress mythos, their true vocal and musical reality draws equally from such non-native locales as the Staples Center (hi-tops) and Nature Mart (gluten-free raw-volutions). And this is key/crucial to keep in mind when meditating on the street beats and dub futurism of Emerald Snake on Ruby Velvet, the Eagle Rockers most recent reverb guitar mantra. A late summer set staple and a water-testing foray into the echo chamber percussion of Pocahaunted?s impending world/trance/dub-inspired LP on Arbor, Emerald Snake... coils in concentric circles of voice-wave wash-out and upsetter drone stutter, buoyed by Bobb Bruno?s drum pad path-finding. A new step away from the Trail of Fears of reinvention. Mystic-eye-stamped discs in cases with hand-cut covers embroidered with swatches of dyed snakeskin, in a hand-numbered edition of 99.) 6.50

Bipedal, By Pedal! Zine (microcosm ? A social history and tactics lesson about the Critical Mass bicycle movement. Initially meant to serve as a lesson for the unaware, this document is a refresher and motivator about the movement. The biggest question - "is Critical Mass a protest or a celebration?" is explored in extensive detail here and in submission pieces by Ted White (early Critical Mass co-founder and director of "We aren't blocking Traffic!" documentary), Ayleen Crotty (co-host of the KBOO bike show), Scott Larkin (Go By Bicycle zine) , and more. There are also extensive reprints from the 1995 Critical Mass zine "Hey! Get Out of Our Way!" that updates the text and ideas. Essential for people who don't know how to screenprint or those a bit rusty. ISBN 0-9770557-4-4) 11.00

FOUND #5 (Found five is more of the best of that which is lost and then found. There are lost love-letters, angry notes, and over-simplified escape plans scribbled onto napkins. Most of the found writing revolves this time around a central theme: crime. The editors state the theme is "prison," but it seems more broad. There are also notes about drunk driving, alternatives to drinking, and the major focus of the issue, the epic tale of Elmer L. Jacobson, told in a found colection of letters. The letters' section is also full of mail sent to Found by readers who are in prison. An equally sad and funny issue, and probably my favorite so far. My mom read it the other day and was cracking up across the room. What more endorsement do you need?) 5.00

86 MENTALITY final exit 7" (deranged - On their third 7", DC's 86
Mentality play another six tracks of oi/street punk inspired hardcore that
takes cues from bands like New York hardcore alumni Life's Blood and
local DC legends Iron Cross.) 5.00

AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED / TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION split 7" (bones
brigade - Yet another Agoraphobic Nosebleed release, this time a split 7"
with brutal grindcore kings Total Fucking Destruction. Amazing over the
top artwork featuring ripped off noses and skateboards ...) 4.50

Agoraphobic Nosebleed - A Clockwork Sodom 7" (garden on exile – last
copies ... new tunes grinding your face) 5.00

CATALYST/ BRAINWORMS split 7" (rorschach - A release worth a years
worth of waiting. Two of Richmond, Va's finest bands come together on this
split 7". The Catalyst deliver 3 new songs written as a 3 piece. On
this record the Catalyst bring to mind bands like Tragedy with a more fast
sound and dueling vocals between members. On the other side Richmond's
Brainworms laid down two of their best tracks yet "Winnie Cooper" and
"Art thou Bored". Both tracks have showed how much this band has
evolved in writing since last years records. The art is a unique
collaboration by Richmond artist Jim Callahan and Nick Kuszyk. You will have more
fun looking at this art than playing Where's Waldo.) 4.50

CATENA COLLAPSE/ LA QUIETE split 7" (adagio830 – 3rd pressing and final
pressing w/ silk screen covers – Norway vs Italy. – wonderful. Get it
while you can) 3.50

CROSS LAWS Ancient Rites 7" (sorry state records - On their third EP,
North Carolina's Cross Laws pick up right where they left off with six
raging hardcore punk tracks with plenty of early-'80s influence bringing
to mind bands like Poison Idea and Articles of Faith. Hand-numbered
out of 500 copies.) 5.00

CROSSED EYES Rattled 7" (sorry state - Raleigh, North Carolina's
Crossed Eyes share a bassist with Cross Laws, but play an upbeat, melodic
style of pop punk with a little bit of a 1977 UK feel mixed with mid-'90s
Lookout Records bands.) 5.00

FY FAN s/t 7" (feral ward - Fy Fan hail from Sweden and bust out
seriously raging hardcore on this debut 7" that almost sounds like it could
be a long lost Poison Idea recording yet still retains the European
style found in bands like Amdi Petersens Arme and ETA.) 5.00

GET RAD Bastards United 7" (level – plane - Get Rad unleashes a brand
new 7" containing five raging tracks that pick up right where their
debut LP left off. Absolutely kick-ass hardcore with a positive message and
energy that doesn't take itself too seriously. Featuring good dudes
from former bands like Kung Fu Rick, Since By Man and Seven Days Of
Samsara.) 4.50

The Grand Color Crayon- Ice eaters 7" (communique -
Catharsis,Emotion, brutality, beauty culminate the Grand Color Crayon. Grinding into your
face one second, easing there way out the next. Just imagine alot of
honesty and passion. The bastard child of Pg. 99 and kill the slave master.
2 will have hand-numbered pink sleeves, another 50 will have hand
numbered red sleeves and the rest...boring white sleeves.) 4.00

OLDE GHOST totally 7" (rok lok – back in stock - The debut recording
from this five-piece New York powerhouse is OUT NOW! Boasting ex-members
of Books Lie, The Fiction, Your Adversary, Yum Yum Tree, and
Excitebike, this sweaty rock unit is taking the eastern seaboard by storm. Five
songs of high-octane punk on a rock'n' roll tip. Recommended for fans of
Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Rye Coalition, Poison Idea, and
Transistor Transistor. Features totally awesome two-color jackets hand-screened
by the band. 500 copies) 4.00

VIOLENT ARREST same 7“ (deranged - Boasting former members of legendary
UK hardcore band Ripcord, Violent Arrest blaze through ten tracks of
fast, intense hardcore punk on this 7". After two decades, the band has
retained the fury, passion and urgency they displayed in previous
projects. These tracks also appear on the self-titled CD.) 5.00

10“

COFFIN DANCER/ KIDCRASH split 10" (denovali - Another release from the
blossoming German label Denovali Records, pitting apocalyptic sound
sculptors Coffin Dancer with the aggressive sounds of Kidcrash. Coffin
Dancer's recent album Pax Romana was a beguiling mix of Neurosis dynamics
married with Slint structures, and "Pilgrims" (clocking in at over ten
minutes long) is again heavy on the epic scale. The Miami quartet has a
unique ability whereby they can weave between stunning heaviness and
peaceful tranquility at the blink of an eye. And they turn on the style
for this release, with ferocious guitar work, towering percussion and
anguished vocals that combine to make a sound that could raise a
building to the ground. Kidcrash recently had their Jokes LP released by
Denovali, but they do not match Coffin Dancer's intensity on this effort.
Still, "Waterweed" is a tenacious blend of post-hardcore stop-starts and
intricate guitar lines. Kidcrash are at their best when they let loose
with crashing percussion, distortion and throat-shredding vocals.
Unfortunately, their better material can be found on Jokes, leaving an
impression that this band is capable of so much more.) 9.50

108 - A New Beat From A Dead Heart LP (deathwish – BACK IN S TOCK. No
one can deny that fake fashion posturing and lifeless clone music are on
the verge of killing heavy music. On an undeniable rampage, 108 is
shocking listeners back to consciousness and getting them thinking again,
feeling again, and banging their heads in defiance at the near-death of
heavy music with message. Their first proper studio album in over a
decade, "A New Beat From A Dead Heart" was recorded and engineered by
Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Godcity Studios.) 12.00

ARCHES- 17:48 LP (communique - Out of the hidden corners of the fucked
real OC is where they can be found.Bike rides, bike shops, kinkos...
Reminding us of the mid 90's classics but not lacking raw emotion and
intensity.Arches is the perfect mix of melodic and often times abrasive
sounds jumping back and forth at the pace of a heartbeat.insanity as
always.crucial screams.think dead seraphim or jeromes dream, but in 2007.
the first 50 are a completely hand constructed cover. Hand stamped, hand
painted, etc...completely we did-it-ourselves. siqqq.) 10.50

BALBOA / ROSETTA Project Mercury split DLP (level plane - This is
exactly how a split record should happen. Two bands that are long time
friends, tour mates, practice space splitters, and so forth. While these
two bands might seem radically different on the surface, if you give
yourself the chance to look past the veneer you will find two bands that
have had subtle but important influences on each other. The first five
tracks allow each band to present their version of musical reality. The
sixth and final song finds the two bands collaborating on a dense and
epic track from which the entire record/project takes its name. Now
available on colored vinyl with a gatefold cover.) 21.00

BIRTHMARK the layer LP (coraille - Solo-album by multi-instrumentalist
Nate Kinsella, ex-member of MAKE BELIEVE and collaborator in OWEN and
JOAN OF ARC. 9 songs, with all instruments and vocals recorded by
himself.) 10.50

BRACEWAR Juggernaut LP (1917 records - Back with their debut
full-length, Richmond, VA's Bracewar keep to their formula of modern, moshy
hardcore played at great speed, much like Outbreak, but this time around
adding a little more mid-tempo punch, while still managing to harness the
intensity of their EP. Now available on vinyl with a gatefold cover.)
12.50

CRIMINAL DAMAGE no solution LP (feral ward - Featuring Paul Burdette,
drummer of Tragedy and His Hero Is Gone, on vocals and guitars,
Portland's Criminal Damage take us to the late-'70s in England with a raucous
yet melodic brand of street punk with political overtones, conjuring up
memories of bands like Blitz and Sham 69. Now available on vinyl.)
12.50

DAMEZUMARI / FIRE TEAM CHARLIE split LP (rok lok – back in stock.
DAMEZUMARI play a brand of technically minded mid west emo/post punk that is
a cross between Off Minor and Life at These Speeds. On the flipside
FIRE TEAM CHARLIE plays raw anthemic post punk that should appeal to fans
of Sinaloa or True North. Lp comes w/ screenprinted covers and a nice
booklet - worth checking out!) 10.50

ESCAPADO Initiale LP (zeitstrafe - Ein Rauschen und Flirren. Es wird
immer lauter.
deutschen Hardcore Untergrund hervor.
Dominik Singer – triggerfish) 10.50

GUNS UP! Outlive LP (1917 records - The follow up to the powerful EP
"All This Is," "Outlive" is the first full length from MA's Guns Up! and
their second release on 1917 Records. This picks up right where they
left off, with eleven tracks of New York style, groove-oriented hardcore
that pays tribute to bands like Leeway and Cro-Mags. Final pressing of
500 on purple vinyl available now.) 12.50

HEAVY WINGED/ TAIGA REMAINS split LP (not not fun - Sky of blue and
sea of green, in our yellow methedrine. Unnatural energies harnessed into
a new universe of planetary tumult and astral injection courtesy of
bi-coastal frequent flyers Heavy Winged and sultan of Cincinnati
solitude, Taiga Remains. Pure planar schizophrenia carved into perfect circles
of fool’s glass. The Winged’s war, “Witches Cradle,” immolates a
levitating altar of prehistoric granite into an ashen mass that blocks out
the light from a hundred suns. As raw and frenzied and hypnotically
devastating as any single piece of hyperkinetic sludge the power trio has
released to date. The flip is the same radiant annihilation only spread
across 66 million millennia….all motion and violence stretched into
historical cirrus clouds trembling with gravitational tension. Infinity’s
burden burning off in wisps of audio mirage and glacial stasis. Go
nowhere fast. Originally released as a micro-edition CDR on the Australian
MYMWLY label, this LP re-issue was pressed from a fresh edit of the HW
material and comes with an entirely unreleased bonus TR track as well.
Coke-bottle clear 12 inches in art-cage silkscreened picture disc
sleeves bedecked with painstaking full-color mystico-textile sticker
compositions. Edition of 300.) 13.50

MUM - Go go smear the poison ivy LP + 7“ (pias - Fat Cat´s finest with
their latest album ... icelandish! LIMITED ON VINYL) 18.00

RED DONS Death To Idealism LP (deranged - Formed from the ashes of
Portland's The Observers, Red Dons present their debut full-length of
melodic punk rock that tackles themes and imagery of the Middle East. Their
sound is very similar to that of The Observers, but they infuse some
surf-guitar tones, taking cues from bands like The Ventures and add it to
their existing formula. Now available on vinyl with a gatefold cover.)

TIDES/ GIANT split LP (level – plane - While both bands share slower
tempos and amp-worshiping guitar tones, Tides and Giant manage to strike
their own course in a scene that is rife with boring clones and
uninspired songwriting. Tides write gorgeously lush soundtracks to movies not
yet made, filled with emotive guitar work, dynamic drumming, and huge
production. Giant's sole track on this record features the band's
three-guitar line weaving its way through both the heaviest of distortions
and hauntingly euphoric passages. Colored vinyl) 16.00

THE CONVERSIONS Prisoners' Inventions LP (level plane - With a fury
that bespeaks their influences without aping them, the New England quartet
bash their way through fourteen tracks on their Level-Plane debut,
"Prisoners' Inventions." The Conversions' formula melds the mid-'90s chaos
of bands like Merel and Heroin with the bitterness of Reagan-era
American hardcore; updating both sounds for a seemingly hopeless post-9/11
world. "Prisoners' Inventions" breathes new life into the often stale
hardcore milieu and is recommended for fans of sincere, passionate and
skillfully played punk rock.) 12.00

TOMORROW TOMORROW epilogues 12“ (drastic action records - 7 songs of
melodic, rough and snotty Punkrock in the vein of KID DYNAMITE, early

SHEPHERDS - LOCO HILLS CD (release the bats - Loco Hills, the debut
fullength from these Brooklyn bush babies,is the sound of a rolling
southwestern road trip. It is the sound of unknown terrain, and appropriately
Loco Hills finds Shepherds entering full band territory for the first
time. A fully realized jam document, toying at times with structure,
Shepherds never lose sight of the "drop everything and make music"
mentality that makes them so exciting. Swirling strings, tape manipulations.
Bongos and wah, fire and bone. This is our music. Members from
Meneguar, Woods and The Vanishing Voice. ) 10.00

AJILVSGA - Earth Lodge 2xTape (not not fun - Winter may be dead and
gone (for now) but the haven of hibernation still calls out across the
plains. And no landscape is more laid low by malevolent elements and
psychic ice than the level-plane tundra of Oklahoma, which is where buffalo
robed drone duo Ajilvsga (Brad Rose, Nathan Young) hole up/hibernate
and eye the harvest moon. Earth Lodge is the soundtrack to a season
spent in dirt shelters, hands in cold clay, amps bleeding out brown-green
groans of bone OM and predatorial rapid eye movement. Riffs burrow
through frozen soil, skull necklace percussion rattles under piles of pelts,
inner spaces open up and unfold into invisible fields of blood and
color and celestial imagining. Withdrawn and drawn out. Grey-sky tapes
with printed labels in oversized cases with full-color double-sided antler
mausoleum collage artwork by Manda. Edition of 100.) 10.00

Elektronavn - Black Zurnai Tape (not not fun - In Pink Luminous
Invocation, Magnus Olsen Majmon works the fog machine, emitting sensory
deprivation clouds of holistic brain smoke. But in his solo universe as
Elektronavn, his duties run darker and deeper. Black Zurnai showcases a
recent pair of summer collage-composition offerings from his Danish pedal
factory, and they both traverse strange terrains of chain-shaking
hymnals, enchanted echo attic exploring, and timeless vocal phantasmagoria.
Personal, parallel odysseys into devotion and repetition. A forthcoming
Qbico LP will only heighten the post-hypnotic haze. In hand-sewn cloth
cases entwined with purple mesh and gold beads. Limited to 99.) 6.00

SHEPARDS w/Shawn Reed Tape (not not fun - Named (maybe?) after some
not-too-noteworthy Grateful Dead hoedown (off the Wake of the Flood LP,
FYI), Eyes of the World here means the banner-in-the-sky under which
Brooklyn’s tenders of the wandering psych flock, Shepherds, communed with
Raccoo-oo-oon’s singer/shredder Shawn Reed for a C50-something of
carefully cultivated rhythmic primitivism and early man ghost-chanting.
Non-Horse-play tape loops spool in the shadows while J Earl percussion
flashes light on cave art corridors of SK1 wave-walking and Christian’s
stringed psycho-babble. Hold hands in the flames of the fire till your eyes
are radiant with Right Now. Live and learn: regression is progression.
Pro-manufactured-and-mastered orange tapes with full-color
double-sided fold-out J-cards group-designed/drawn/written by Jeremy Earl, Shawn
Reed, and Gabriel Lucas Crane. Edition of 200.) 6.50
