GARAGE-PUNK. Lorenzo Woodrose has spend a good deal of the first 6 months of 2009 in Studie 73 recording the new BABY WOODROSE album. This time he recorded almost all instruments himself and together with producer Johan Gellett they have created a new BABY WOODROSE sound that will probably surprise quite a few people. Every BABY WOODROSE album is different. Working in a new enviroment and with new people has resulted in a new sound that is more punchy, straight and to the point than on previous BABY WOODROSE albums. The songwriting of Lorenzo Woodrose remains the same though and on "Same" we get to hear a fine blend of fuzzed out Garagepunk and beautiful melancholic songs. The broken KINKS riff in "No mas" is a solid punch in the face while "Countdown to breakdown" is an epic ballad of pure brilliance. And then there's "Emily", in Lorenzos own words the most commercial song he has ever done. BABY WOODROSE have for many years toured and recorded as a trio but the past year it has in reality been a Lorenzo Woodrose project. AVANTGARDE-ROCK. "Octahedron" is yet again a solid album by MARS VOLTA. While previous albums tended to lean too far towards Indie-Prog insanity, this one leans in the other direction. The band is still doing basically the same things they always have. They aren’t trying anything particularly new or adventurous here, they’ve just changed their ratio of slow-to-fast on its head. The result is that curious newcomers might feel more welcome listening to "Octahedron", but they probably shouldn’t be fooled into thinking that this album is what the band is all about. However, existing fans of the band will find a lot to like about the album even with the usual craziness toned down a bit. (2009/RLPE)

After all this years it's still exciting to discover something different from the nowadays ongoing crust revival circus and then being surprised to find out these folks are around since quite some time now to deliver the goods. PRIMATES from Barcelona play together in a constand line up since 1995 and can be described as a energetic mixture of Garagepunk meets old-school Thrash-Punk close to the ancestors such like HERESY or the early CIRCLE JERKS, D.R.I. posse from the US. HARDCORE-PUNK. Different from their previous material; you could say harder and more crushing in a way, yet with the same attitude and sincerity as always. Add to that a really interesting interpretation of a Swedish hiphop-artists song ("Av hela mitt hjärta" - best track on the record), an absolutely fantastic mastering of the record by Mattias, and you have one hell of a record that outdoes most of the so far released Punk records of this year. It's catchy, has a monstrous sound that hard to come bye, and of course some snazzy sing-a-long choruses making for a rally impact that's hard to deny.
