It seems redundant to use the word “landmark” when discussing their musical canon, as almost every album is genre-defining, but CONVERGE’s run is unparalleled. Releases such as Petitioning the Empty Sky (1997), When Forever Comes Crashing (1998), Jane Doe (2001), You Fail Me (2004) and No Heroes (2006) have established Converge as trendsetters and innovators, setting new standards in Hardcore and Metal with each release. GRAY MATTER - Food for thought LPcol 12.90 EUR

PUNK. GRAY MATTER officially formed in the summer of 1983 but Geoff Turner, Mark Haggerty and Dante Ferrando had been playing in bands since their early middle school days. By early 1983, Dante and Mark were playing in Iron Cross, but when when the band's image began to reflect it's supporters more than the members themselves, Dante quit. Soon after Mark also left and the two reunited with Geoff and Iron Cross roadie Steve Niles and started playing shows around Washington, DC as GRAY MATTER. The band's first album, “Food for thought” was originally released on R&B records in 1985 while the members were still in High School and continues to stand out as a classic teenage Punk album. In the aftermath of DC’s Revolution Summer GRAY MATTER recorded the brilliant “Take it back” 12” EP which was released on Dischord in 1986. Shortly thereafter Mark left to go to college and the band went on one of their frequent hiatuses. Dante went on to play drums for IGNITION and Geoff, Steve, and Mark reunited and formed the band THREE, with Jeff Nelson from MINOR THRREAT. GRAY MATTER re-emerged in the spring of 1990 and released a double seven inch in 1991 and the full-length, “Thog”, in 1992. The first Dischord edition of “Food for thought” was released on vinyl in 1990 along with the “Food for thought”/”Take it back” Maxi-CD. In late 2008 Dischord Records began recutting much of our vinyl catalog here in the United States. We began by re-pressing current titles, and later re-issuing others, all re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service. All re-issued 12“ albums feature complimentary MP3 album downloads coupons. Richmond, VA's The RIOT BEFORE have been a band for barely two years, most of which were spent barreling down the interstates of America as they bounced from basement to basement and all manner of seedy dive bars. Despite the constant touring, they also managed to do something that very few bands can do in a decade: write a cohesive, well-crafted album, where songs work together and flow in a cleverly concocted manner that eventually amounts to a complete piece of art. Thematic elements weave in and out between songs, both musically and lyrically, to create a deceptively complex record that will continue to disclose new secrets with every listen. While each song is fully capable of standing on its own, the true beauty of the album shines through when you actually sit down and read along with the lyrics and appreciate the thought and care that went into crafting the album. While the music is based on a pretty straight-forward style of fast Hardcore (hints of Swedish and Japanese influences), they also mix in a lot of originality which makes you want to listen to it over and over again.
