I don't want to lump this band into Sludge, Stoner or whatever. Just solid and heavy doom music recorded and played at a very high level.

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH - The Feast LP 13,00 €
Seattle's Book of Black Earth formed out of the smoldering ash of Teen Cthulhu in 2003. A demo was recorded and eventually they hooked up with Portland's Fall of the Bastards for a split album. The Feast is the first full length album for Book of Black Earth. Punishing blackened death metal (or deathened black metal if you prefer) is the order of the day. Subtle and unintrusive keyboard strains give an epic and vast quality to the memorably brutal songs on display. Vocalist TJ Cowgill's menacing guttaral delivery coupled with the assault of Joe Axeler's (Skarp) double bass-drum march propel the songs to sit comfortably alongside far more experienced and noteworthy bands in the genre. And unlike most death metal, the Feast is precise and over soon enough to leave you wanting much, much more.

DPG have only pressed 225 copies for those of you who are not familiar with the band: burned out came from hannover and included former members of shit list as well as the current bassplayer for hanns martin slayer. they have existed from 1994 to 1997 and had a 7"" called ""geballte ladung"" out on stahlnetz record in 1996. they played ferocious simple hardcore with german lyrics that may be described as a mix out of GO! and OHL - their discography album includes all 42 songs (including some alternate versions) that they ever recorded
CAVITY - Laid Insignificant LP 12,00 €
In den Everglades, einem riesigen Sumpfgebiet voller Mangroven, Alligatoren und Rednecks wächst und gedeiht vermutlich noch manch andere Spezies, von der Charles Darwin nicht zu träumen gewagt hätte. Und zwar ganz einfach deswegen, weil ihn das zu viel kostbaren Schlafes gekostet hätte. Hierzu kann man CAVITY guten Gewissens zählen. Die begannen 1992 Sludge Metal zu spielen, eine Mischung aus Hardcore (von wegen Geschrei) und Doom (reduzierte Geschwindigkeit). Schleppendes Tempo, zähe, oft monotone Gitarrenriffs und Texte über Drogen, Tod, Teufel und andere Nettigkeiten sind hierbei Programm. Nach Veröffentlichung verschiedener EPs und Alben trennte man sich im Jahre 2003. “Laid Insignificant“ ist somit ein Re-Release von 1998. Mit acht Titeln irgendwo zwischen EP- und Albumlänge angesiedelt stellt dieses Ding wohl mit das intensivste, spannendste und emotionalste dar, was diese Band jemals von sich gegeben hat. Eine ausgewogene Melange aus sägenden Riffs, reichlich fuzziger Verzerrung und immer wieder viel Rückkopplung bohrt sich hier bei zumeist genreuntypisch hohem Tempo in einer knappen halben Stunde nachhaltig ins Ohr. Besonders geil finde ich “9 Fingers On The Spider”, das von einem typischen Tony Iommi-Riff getragen wird und aus den Aufnahmesessions zu “Black Sabbath IV“ stammen könnte. Ebenfalls klasse sind das im THC-Nebel beinahe bluesig-swingende “I May Go” und das auf Gebrauch härterer Drogen schließen lassende, verstörende “Marginal Man”. Während CAVITY zu Beginn ihres musikalischen Schaffens maßgeblich im Zeichen von BLACK SABBATH und PENTAGRAM standen, hört man auf “Laid Insignificant“ ihre zunehmende Eigenständigkeit. Hardcore, Punk, Doom und Stoner- irgendwie schaffen CAVITY das Kunststück, hieraus ein eigenes, sumpfig-düsteres Süppchen zu kochen. Dass die Jungs und ihre Musik sehr eigen waren ist vermutlich der Grund dafür, dass sie mit ihrem Material nie groß herauskamen. Was sehr bedauerlich ist, denn allein dieses Album hätte mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdient als eine Menge von dem Schrott, der zur Jahrtausendwende seitens der Industrie über die Ohren der Freunde harter Musik gekippt wurde. Unbedingt reinhören!

DISFEAR - Live The Storm LP 12,00 €
Wer hätte es nur für möglich gehalten: Der Extreme-Freelancer Tomas Lindberg (u.a. AT THE GATES, THE GREAT DECEIVER) hat Wurzeln geschlagen – Tompa scheint nun endlich sein musikalisches Seelenheil gefunden zu haben. Sein Einstand auf "Misanthropic Generation" beflügelte die Schweden zu Höchstleistungen. Bereits auf ihren letzten Touren durften sie auf die Unterstützung von Uffe Cederlund bauen, der nun endgültig den Death-Heroen von ENTOMBED den Rücken gekehrt hat, um fortan DISFEAR mit seinen großartigen Riffs zu füttern. Auch diese Neubesetzung lässt einen frischen Wind aufkommen: "Live The Storm" ist ihr bis dato reifstes und stärkstes Album. Abgesehen von dem ausgedehnten, zähen Intro des Rausschmeißers "Phantom" strotzen alle Songs nur vor Überschuss und Ausgelassenheit, hetzen und jagen, schlagen Wirbel. Die viril aggressive Lead-Salve "Get It Off" steigt, dringt ein wie ein Regierungsspion in feindliche Länder, "Fiery Father" ist quirlig und federleicht wie ein Schwarm schlauer Bienen. "The Furnace" züngelt und kocht bedrohlich, erinnert stark an TRAGEDY und FROM ASHES RISE und fährt erst zum Ende hin seine spitzen Zähne vollends aus; "Testament" schaltet einen Gang runter, die Melodie setzt sich fest, und gipfelt in einem aufrühererischen Refrain ("A Testament! Born Out Of Desperation!"), "In Exodus" kann sich vor Drive und Power nicht mehr halten, explodiert förmlich. DISFEAR perfektionieren die Dramaturgie des Ausbruchs, den totalen Energiefluss der Musik. Dabei sind die Stücke so fein arrangiert, dass sie selbst mit akustischem Instrumentarium funktionieren würden. Produziert wurde "Live The Storm" von CONVERGE-Gitarrist und God-City-Impresario Kurt Ballou, einem genialen Klangbauer, der sich bereits auf zahlreichen Werken verschiedenster Genre unter Beweis stellen konnte: Die Produktion ist klar und transparent, untermauert die Hardcore-/D-Beat-Wurzeln der Band, ohne dabei die massigen Riffs in den Hintergrund zu drängen und lässt ebenso genug Raum für kleinere Sound-Experimente und stark MOTÖRHEAD-lastige Leads und Soli. Auch wenn sie auf "Live The Storm" weitaus melodischer und griffiger als auf den Vorgängern zu Werke schreiten, setzen sie resolut auf ihre bewährte Formel: Halsbrecherische, simple Strukturen, flottes Hardcore-Drumming, die unverkennbaren, schnörkellosen, rauen Shouts von Lindberg – so rostig, wie ein Kehlkopf es hergibt – gehen eine unüberwindbare Bande ein, um die D-Beat-Vorherrschaft zu verteidigen. DISFEAR liefern ein großes Album ab – voll gepumpt mit kriegslüsternen Steroiden, kurz und schmerzvoll und grenzenlos erfrischend.
DISFEAR - Misanthropic Generation LP 10,50 €
"Misanthropic Generation" ist das vierte Album der Schweden und vereint Crust, Punk und Metal zu einem nicht unbekannt klingenden Sound. Rotziger Punk´n Roll bildet die Grundlage, auf der sich die Jungs in verschiedenste Richtungen austoben, entsprechend simpel ist das Konzept. In diesem Falle aber eigentlich gar nicht so schlimm, ohne Umwege ab in den Magen, wieder ausgeholt und nochmal von vorn – die musikalische wie inhaltliche Intention ist klar. "Who gives a fuck about the system, or the truth behind their lies?" Lyrisch irgendwo zwischen "Null Bock auf Alles" und Straßenkampf- Attitüde bewegt sich "Misanthropic Generation" in einem recht schmalen Radius, der dem Titel allerdings mehr als gerecht wird. Songwriting und Texte könnten besser zueinander nicht passen, Aggression pur ist es, was hier aus dem Boxen kommt. Wobei man nicht unerwähnt lassen sollte, dass sich der Spaßfaktor dabei ebenfalls auf einem recht hohen Level befindet. Die knappen aber abgedrehten Soli tun ihr Übriges. Ob gewollt, oder nicht, den meisten Hörern wird wohl eher nach Rumhüpfen zumute sein, als nach Randale, was aber schließlich auch nicht unvereinbar ist. Gemischt ist der Spaß von einem weiteren Kollegen: Mieszko Talaryzk von Nasum hat in den renommierten Soundlab Studios für des geeignete Outfit gesorgt und das Album mit dem passend rotzig- punkigen Anstrich veredelt. "Misanthropic Generation" ist das richtige Werk zum Sauerwerden, -sein oder Spaß haben, was aber leider auch schon alles ist. Musikalischen Anspruch braucht man trotz sauberen Spiels aller Beteiligten ebenso wenig erwarten, wie Abwechslungsreichtum oder große Überraschungen, was das Ganze etwas substanzlos macht.

The sound of this record is unlike any others out there today...easily some of the heaviest shit you've ever heard. It will appeal to fans of a large variety of heavy music, but to drop a few names: Asunder, Coffins, Corrupted, 13, Thorr's Hammer, Evoken and anything slow and brutally heavy.
Really well written songs, both lyrically, conceptionally and of course the riffs are sick.
Remastered by Mell Dettmer (Sunn, Earth, Boris) to make it even that much better!
