THE CONTEMPORARY NOISE SEXTET (pl)
jazz music without jazz, film music without a movie, but something splendid instead.
After 4 albums as a Quintet and Sextet (including a soundtrack done for a theatre play) they're now back with their new full length – a bit more experimental than before, but still combining excellent melodies with the crazy brass and strings compositions. Their new album “Ghostwriter's Joke” contains compositions which may be called a musical visualisation of / a commentary to life stories of particular people, both well-known & remembered by masses and unknown to anyone. These pieces of music were written in the honor of those people, who mostly wanted to stay anonymous. Some of them disappeared in unexplained circumstances and were not heard of anymore, but the music remained. There's no doubt that the CONTEMPORARY NOISE SEXTET currently is one of the most fascinating musical projects from Poland which catches the attention of both pure jazz fans and people who are interested in experimental instrumental music in general. The tracks on this album were recorded in January, 2011 in the Electric Eye Studio and mastered by Kuba Pacanowski at Yacob Records.
THE EYE OF TIME (fr)
Writing critical music without using platitudes - that's already a difficult undertaking if you're doing music supported by words. THE EYE OF TIME realizes a critical approach without any lyrics. Why did he choose this way of expression?
The man behind EYE OF TIME – Marc Euvrie – grew up in and was part of the French diy punk and hardcore scene for years. After playing with several bands THE EYE OF TIME is his first solo project – just for the live gigs he invites different friends to perform with him. The song writing process itself wouldn't work out together with other people –THE EYE OF TIME is Marc Euvrie's personal reflection of the world - illustrated with his sounds and specific artworks Thomas from Denovali Records worked out together with him.
After six years of writing song fragments and two additional years of creating the artwork elements he now presents his self titled debut record consisting of the three parts AFTER US, JAIL and LILY ON THE VALLEY. All tracks on the record are telling you a specific story dealing with Marc's life – every picture in the booklet gives you a little hint concerning his view to the world. The stories behind the tracks are dealing with problems of our today's society just as with his personal fight against depression and hopelessness.
He doesn't present his art with pathos – it's a clear, minimal mixture of samples, cello elements written and performed by himself, electronic programming, loops, drones, piano parts and field recordings. It's an honest soundtrack of life garnished with hope, resignation and death.
POPPY ACKROYD (uk)
Poppy Ackroyd is a performer and composer from London currently based in Edinburgh. Classically-trained on both piano and violin, with a MMus in piano performance she makes music manipulating and multi-tracking sounds from these two instruments. She has collaborated with musicians, artists, filmmakers, dancers, actors and sound designers, providing soundtracks for animations, documentaries, films, physical theatre, contemporary dance pieces and workshops. As a session musician she has performed on numerous albums, as well as live radio sessions for BBC Radio 1, Radio 4, Radio Scotland and 6Music. She has arranged and performed music for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4, TV adverts and audio books. Currently she is working on a solo project - tracks made using only sounds from piano, prepared piano and violin - soon to be released on Denovali Records. She is also recording and touring with Hidden Orchestra.
CARLOS CIPA (ger)
Carlos Cipa is a 22 year old composer/musician residing in Munich (Germany). Carlos discovered his passion for music very early in his life. At the age of 6 he began taking classical piano lessons with various renowned teachers. Ten years later after he started playing drums he became more and more interested in composition and improvisation. In the following years he made lots of experiences in many music styles like jazz, hardcore/punk, indie rock and orchestral music.
Influenced by Eric Satie and Claude Debussy his piano music impresses particularly because of its intensity and great attention to detail. It's not only enhanced by his classical background and symphonic film music works, but also by the experiences he made as drummer in different bands. Besides the piano he is interested in all different kinds of instruments, as experimenting takes an important role in his work. Not playing just traditional concert rooms Carlos so far shared the stage with marvelous acts like A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Moritz von Oswald Trio, Murcof, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, Rivulets or Library Tapes.
After he finished his works on final versions of his compositions Carlos Cipa joined the German experimental music label Denovali Records early 2012. His debut full length "The Monarch and the Viceroy" saw the light of day in June 2012.
