fear falls burning (b) + september malevolence (swe)

- Fear Falls Burning is Relapse Records artist VidnaObmana's alter ego in dedication to the expansive tonal character of the electric guitar and to avoid obvious and easy comparisons with Vidna's existing works and projects. Real-time performances on the electric guitar without post-productive editing or additional overdubs in relation to vintage and contemporary guitar pedal effects. Through the unique wiring of these guitar pedal effects, its single performed guitarchord multiplies and shifts over time into dense and trance-inducing walls of sound. Due to an ongoing fascination for tube and old transitorradio-like mono sounds, the electric guitar is performed in such a way with the help of the various vintage and replica effects that the music sounds deliberately old and monotonous. All clicks, ticks and cracks are part of the real-time performance, it's that fine musical line where lo-fi, instrumental post-rock, avant-garde, experimental and industrial meet... -
September Malevolence: “Meandering through fifty minutes of purely cathartic instrumentation in their debut album, “Tomorrow We’ll Wonder where this Generation gets its Priorities from”, September Malevolence mimics genre champions Explosions in the Sky much in their scope, but has a different take on their approach. While there are several moments which could easily be mistaken coming from the Texan post-rockers, this band is sure to cut at the rope enough to put a comfortable distance between the two... Hidden behind the looming crescendos and oscillating repetitive guitar flicks, September Malevolence sheds much of the subtlety that is enthroned in the post-rock world and instead deflates their well crafted tension with a more aggressive edge than most care to take... September Malevolence puts a creative spin on the post-rock gig while still playing in tune with what we’ve come to expect from it. By making small changes here and there, September Malevolence manages to make a big impact on their overall sound. Fans of Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai will love their music, and fans of Pelican’s newer material should find peace with the priorities that this band has set down.”
