VICTORY RECORDS - Weitere Maßnahmen gegen Piraterie
... werden weitere Maßnahmen gegen die zunehmende Musikpiraterie einleiten. Las Label schreibt:
"Victory Records is taking a step towards actively combating the effect of illegal downloads on the music industry, by issuing cease and desist letters to those found guilty of leaking Victory Records' albums on the internet. The investigations have begun following the recent leaks of the new albums from Victory artists.
These recently discovered leaks have jeopardized the future for several developing Victory acts like Across Five Aprils, Farewell to Freeway, Secret Lives of the Freemasons, Dead To Fall and more scheduled to be released 2/19/08. In recent weeks, comment activity on various message boards across the web has exploded with praises on the albums. While the artists and employees of Victory Records appreciate the positive feedback, it is a bit alarming to realize the number of individuals who have acquired the entire album, pre-release date. Even more so alarming is the fact that there have been few opportunities for "fans" to stream the albums online, in their entirety. An increase in downloading music and file sharing is affecting the record business at an alarming speed. File-sharing technology changes so rapidly that it is virtually impossible to prevent. While many avenues have been explored across the record industry to avoid album leaks, sadly to date there is no effective solution. Sales of albums that have leaked cripple a label's stream of revenue, thus hurting its artists and employees in the long run.
Artists have been increasingly speaking out on the subject, unwilling victims to their work being given premature release while seeing none of the revenue they are entitled to for their efforts. As the latest casualty of the war on downloading, Across Five Aprils singer Brandon Mullins notes:
"We appreciate all of our fans but what people are doing is wrong. To them it may be exciting to hear new music before anyone else, but what they're really doing is making it that much harder for us (and bands like us) to do what we love. Some people may not agree with our stance against piracy but we are speaking up on behalf of all the bands that are not brave enough to do so".
Victory Records is proud to have a reputation for innovative ways to develop its artists, and by actively addressing the issues plaguing the current state of the music industry, it hopes to help give new hope for both labels and artists."
